Yea whatever unbaptized - you keep on waiting for your lord. I'm going to go make a sandwich. Give me a call when he decides to get off his butt and show up.

Preaching the kingdom or what?
by acsot ini was at the meeting on sunday and one brother mentioned how jws are heeding the scripture at matthew 24:14, you know, about the kingdom being preached, and he said how in every corner of the world jws are now found and it's a fulfillment of the scripture.
then the thought struck me that if that were true, then when people think of jws they should think "god's kingdom".
not in my experience, as when going from door to door or what colleagues at work have said.

Preaching The Good News
by Nosferatu ini really don't know why jws call going door to door "preaching the good news".
it's really not all that good.
their message: join up with the jws or die at armageddon.

Well, I don't think I can improve on your good news.

Door to door work really being done?
by freedom96 inobviously the witnesses are going door to door, but is it as effective as could be?
in all my years as an adult, only once has any witness come to the door preaching "the good news.
" this is once in over 15 years.

In the past five years I have yet to see ONE JW group in door to door. By this I mean at my door or when I'm out driving around. I live 3 mins from a KH too (they don't know who I am either). I have had one tract in the door in that time, so I did miss one call.

who hated the memorial?
by Tyler_Durden inwas having a wee think to myself: this year is the first year in over a decade i won't be attending the jw memorial.
not that i'm too bothered, i remembered how much i hated it, how pointless, dull, & stupid i found it!!.
i could never understand the need for the great crowd to attend the annual meeting, it wasn't for us - & it certainly wasn't for our poor bible studies!

I agree with Lisa, it was so much build up for nothing. It was supposed to be our only 'holiday' yet (at least in my family) it was as if you had to go around all day sad faced and 'meditating' on Jesus - I'm sorry I never had the ability to do that for a full day. So you were allowed to a) go in FS, b) study WT or read bible, and thats it. And positively NO going out after - you had to go home and meditate some more.
The actual meeting itself was bearable, barely, but the day surrounding it I hated. The meeting at least I could associate w/ friends. Though the service itself was best described as being as tasteful as the cracker being passed around - dry and very boring. You've seen one JW memorial, you've seen them all.

NFL Playoffs: Week-By-Week Predictions
by Funchback inso, here are my first round playoff predictions (as if any of you care...lol!
colts 23, jets 15 (the jets had their super bowl vs. the packers).
packers 21, falcons 17 (i have a hunch that atlanta may pull the upset but you can't root against the pack at lambeau).

Oakland/Jets: Let's take the Jets in a close game.
Tenn/Pitt: Tenn, only because I like them :) Another tight game. Titans have been on a roll lately, winning some tough games. In reality I think Pittsburg will prevail, but I'm still going to put my official prediction on Tenn
SF/Tampa: The niners - Tampa has a good defense, but not invunerable. They have NO offense though. The niners do.
Egales/Atlanta: Eagles. Home field, cold game, Vic is good, but not good enough against a tough Eagles defense. As noted, he's hurting too. And the Eagles have proven they can win no matter who's at QB.
Man. WAY off with the Jets. I guess dubla can put away the Chap P jersey now They looked good until that pesky sencond half came along ...
Tenn/Pitt. What a game. I'm glad Tenn pulled it off, but it could have gone either way!
TB: I guess they found an offense after all. Maybe Brad Johnson is the real deal w/ their offense. They will be hard to stop if they keep playing this well.
Eagle: A close game as expected - but home field was good enough to ensure a victory for the Eagles.
Oh, next week ...
Bucs over Eagles in a close game. If the Bucs play like they did this week, they'll make it to the big game.
Raiders over Tenn. I hate to call that since I'm rooting for Tenn, but I think that Tenn is hurting (injuries) and the Raiders look so very solid right now.

Big deal. I heard all that crap in 1991 too. Armagedon, going into Babylon, going to re-up the draft and persecute JW men, etc, etc. Iraq using chemical, nuclear, biological weapons, etc. Whatever. 6 months of military buildup, 2 mins of 'war' and it was over. The JWs can have their little scare for the year, and in 3 years they'll be onto the next 'king of the north'.

Are You Tough, Or Are You A Baby?
by minimus inif you were to describe your temperment, would you say that you are a pretty tough person or a crybaby?
do you wear your heart on your sleeve and tend to be emotional, or do you let things just bounce off of you?

Jehovahs V the Raelians
by spacegirl inhi everybody - long time no speak, been researching other stuff like these flipping raelians.
absolutely fascinating what they believe in.
don't know if any of you have read this guy rael's books about being created by human aliens and apparently in 30 or so years if we follow rael we can have everlasting life by being cloned.

For those who don't believe in God
by freedom96 inwhen we were witnesses, we certainly believed in god.
some of us were born into it, and others have perhaps come from other religions, while still others may never had any religious faith at all.
some here on the board now claim that there is no god at all.

OK, maybe I don't get it then. What gift are you being given. By the term 'being given' it would imply that some entity is actively 'giving' you this gift right now. I still see it as exactly the same thing as someone telling me that a genie will give me 3 wishes at some future point in time, and I'm sitting around waiting for those 3 wishes. I can prove the existence of a genie about as well as I can prove the existence of a god that will grant enternal life. Just because I want that genie to be true doesn't mean it is ...
