'To comply with Ceaser' huh? First off, it's funny I have never meet this Ceaser dude, but that's beside the point. If they were 'complying' with Ceaser, they'd pay their tax like they are supposed to. But no, we can't have that now can we? So we have to 'trick' Ceaser (Think theocratic warfare here) into thinking that he cannot tax JWs since they are a 'non-profit' org (actaully it's a non-prophet org - but what good 'ol Uncle Sam doesn't know won't hurt 'em right? )

You know what!?? He's right!!! They do not sell mags 'for a corporation'. Now they sell mags for dozens of corporations!!!!

Whatever. After the 100th talk in three months about how poor the congs and the WTBTS finances are, and how can 'you do more to help', and the 30+ page brochure on how to donate all your money/property/401K plans to the WTBTS don't even try and sell us that snake oil about how Jdubs are not forced to contribute. No, no one points a gun at their head, but the guilt trip is laid on pretty damn thick! The last few years I went I recall pleas for money at every service meeting. It was one of the things that turned me off - the transparent constant attention the need to donate money to one of the dozen or more 'funds' that were setup.

Ahh - An even better arrangement. The WTBTS wholesales the mags/books(does the cheesy crap they printeven qualify as 'books' anymore?)/etc to the publisher. The publisher is too timid to ask for $$$ from people. Either way the WTBTS doesn't give a crap, they've been paid!

The Watchtower and Awake are very informative

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! Now that's the funniest thing you've said in quite a while. Even most JDubs can't stand to read all the drivel in the Witchpower and Asleep mags. I used to be able to read an entire mag in 5 mins. And tell you the 'main points' of each article. Now that must be some deeeeeep material!

the overwhelming amount of gossip that circulated through my kingdom hall was a major factor in my decision to stop attending meetings.

every meeting, every day of field service, and every gathering was plagued with vicious rumors that people told to keep themselves entertained.

surprisingly, the pioneers and elder's wives were the worst of everyone.

30+ years of Field Service Observations

some very random thoughts based on 30+ years of field service activity.

would especially enjoy responses by jt, alanf, amazing, & others.. why they do it.

1. guilt.

I have to agree for the most part. The typical person dreaded knocking on doors. We made FS 'as fun' as we could. Doing the typical drive from one end of the county to the other, making RVs that you knew would never be home, etc. This was 'typical'. There were those however (that you avoided FS with at all costs) that made FS a chore - spiritual nazi's I called 'em. No breaks, get up and out of the FS meeting as fast as you can, not stopping until 12:30 or later, etc. Ugg!

If 90% of the JWs really thought this was 'a life-saving work' they would be much more urgent about trying to actually teach people, not just throw a couple of mags/brocure in their hands and move on.

I totally agree re: the general population having no idea what JWs believe or why they're at their door. Most people, if they are even aware JWs exist, think they're just those kooks that knock on their door selling mags. I have yet to meet one person 'in the world' that knows anything about JWs. Most are shocked when they hear the belief structure of "Jehovah's" (as most call them ).

MORE ON 1975, FOR MUSKY

along with musky's 1975 post i've just seen another so i wanted to try and reach musky again and reach others who wonder about the reality of the society's 1975 speculations.

af and others have done an excellent job documenting what was actually said by the watchtower society through their own official publications and spokesmen.

as a person who was actually there in those heady times of the late 60's and early 70's these official documents confirm what my memory tells me i knew all along, that of course the society actively promoted 1975 as a "marked date" or a date of "great significance" at the very least.

All the proof that's ever needed re: if 1975 was really expected to be the big 'a' is the incredible turn-around in the JW growth - the numbers falling to nothing for a few years after 1975. Too many crushed dreams, ruined lives, etc. Then people either moved on or choose to alter their memories of that time - hence the number of people who today say "Oh it was no big deal, just a few over-zealous brothers".

Then the 'generation' crap took hold in the 80's/90's - I mean, what other proof did you need then the fact that there was no way it could be much father off - the 'generation' of 1914 was almost gone!!! Oh, well, I guess that was just a few over-zealous brothers too.

in the questions from readers section, the question was: "would it be advisable for a true christian to attend a funeral or a wedding in a church?".

to analyze this wonderful piece, i'm going to use their words, and translate them into real english.. "being in a group where everyone else is engaging in a false religious act, a christian may find it difficult to resist the pressure to join in.

Granted, the article is written in a way that advises against going, but end of article still leaves the decision up to the individual JW.

Whatever. No use trying to pull the wool over our eyes - we all (who have been in the JWs) know how articles like this are used by elders and other spirtual Nazis in the KH. "The WT says not to go". If it becomes an issue, and you go anyway, you are 'not showing proper respect for kindom arragements/athority"

I hate when people say "The WT dosen't say you can't" when we ALL know that 'good' JWs know that they "can't". Why not? Because "How would it look". Too many JW busybodies running around being stumbled by every action of other JWs.

The org itself however can spread it's legs and hump the wild beast for a library card - no big deal.

im wondering if there are any jw here that may be married where they are not disclosing their activities on this forum to their parters.. im wondering if you have added this site to your favorites and changed the name / title of it( if you are like me ), out of fear that your partner or a visiting dub may be nosing through your computer and see jw.com written.. what have you changed the title to ??

I have a bigg disscusion widh a decon of the baptist church who is my near friend, abaout whats happend now, we have the same look, and I think a lot have,we have some bigg wolfs inn our leadership, butwe think jehova will take care of them , perhaps it must go some time , but to much peopel are badely hurt, and i dont think this is the will of Jesus and jehova, inn time we will have other leaders who is more loving.

Works either way!

newsflash!! WTBS CD-ROM 2001

yesterday an announcement was made at my local con.

and i thought i`d share it.. the watchtower announced that work on the new cd-rom is in progress and we can expect it at the end of this year.. unlike the other versions you can`t get away with win 3.1, you`ll now need at least win95.. available languages: the one already available + tjech and japanese.. some of it`s features:.

- one window (instead of several).

I'd love a copy - my last one was a 1993 or 1995 - whatever it is it will not run on Win2K.
