I found your post regarding the Sasoons family quite interesting. In the 1980s, I had an Iranian Jew by the name of Sasoons working for me as a Civil Engineer. His family was quite wealthy. He came over to the U.S. to study during the Shah's regime and couldn't go home when the government fell to the Ayatollah Khomeni.

if someone disassociated themselves from the watchtower society due to research that convinced them that the watchtower was erroneous on many issues and yet still felt convinced that jehovah is much more gracious with regards to salvation than what we learned through the watchtower, is it possible for such a one to get reinstated, even if they did not believe numerous things that the watchtower teaches?.

Thanks for your reply. I agree that there had to be a Q document written in Aramaic. See my post under Bible Research dealing with Aramaic idioms called Peculiar Sayings in the bible. It deals with George Lamsa's position that much was lost when the greek writers translated the aramaic accounts into greek because they did not have an intimate understanding of aramaic customs, culture, and idioms.

Right On Queenie. That's the way I see it too. Keep on growing and Saint Satan might invite you to join his church. I don't wish to brag, but he asked me several weeks ago. I was going to, but then there was some discussion about an "entrance fee"....lol.
i started this post under kids and parenting, then i realized that not nearly as many people look under there, so i put it here also.. my stepson lives with his "witness" mother.
he is early teens, and recently baptized (he tells us it is because other kids his age did it) he has heard my son talk about holidays and had no qualms accepting christmas gifts from my family last year.
i think he knows that we are fully "out", though the subject has never been discussed.
You don't say how old the boy is, but my advice is to discuss the issue frankly with him. He needs to understand how much more difficult life will be if your family is disfellowshipped. It is unrealistic, however, to expect that your "secret" won't get out, even if he doesn't talk. And kids do talk. You should have a game plan on what you will do if it does get out. In this area, the congregations are a bit slower to deal with someone that is trying to fade. Perhaps that is because their numbers are down and they are afraid of losing more if they take official action.

Idioms can really be misunderstood. I can still remember the look on my wife's face just after arriving in the United Kingdom when the hotel desk clerk asked her what time she wanted to be "knocked up" in the morning.

I believe that there is a project underway now by theologians called "The Jesus Seminar" or something like that which is trying to sort out the actual teachings of Jesus from the stuff that got added in later which apparently is considerable. You can well imagine how this project is being received by those fundamentalists that practice "Bibliolotry". I believe that the worst event to happen to the Christian Church is Constantine's making it the state religion. It certainly didn't change him. History records that he had at least one of his wives boiled alive in oil after his "conversion". I do believe that a lot of Jesus's teaching does come through in the bible. It is difficult sorting those teaching out from the rest of the B.S.. That the bible has been corrupted over the years is beyond question to reasonable people. And who says God stopped talking just because a bunch of guys got together and closed the cannon? I would put more trust in some of the recent channeled material such as A Course In Miracles than in the bible.

I'm with Francois and Deddaisy on this one. My Dad had a very peaceful transition and was really looking forward to it. He felt that he had done what he needed to do on this side and was ready to move on. He had had a great deal of pain leading up to his death and as someone has pointed out, pain is a very powerful motivator.
