I understand your concern CRR. My mother suffered a stroke and had to give up her independence in favor of an Assisted Living Center. I remind myself that she is not a body but a beautiful, eternal spirit, created in the image and likeness of God. The mound of flesh that she currently occupies is merely her "concept of body". Although she will one day disappear from the human scene and I will miss her presence, I know that she will survive the experience and be glad to be free of her "less than perfect" human body. You can help your father by looking past the appearance of the human concept of body and seeing the beautiful spirit that he is, remembering the all encompassing love that God has for his children.

How do we apply Hebrews 10:24, and 25 ? Exelders and others, please respond
by codeblue inas a newbie, and one that hasn't been to a meeting since june, i have lately been thinking about this scripture at hebrews 10: 24, and 25. you know that's is the one the org.
quoted when they told us why we need to be at the meetings.
i guess i have been feeling a little guilty and wonderering how we are to fulfill this scripture.

I agree with you Mouthy! Most of the witnesses I know cannot feel God's presence because they are so exhausted from all of the "gathering together". They are so wrapped up in magazine sales and "counting time" that they neglect the inner urging to "be still and know".

Managers often put people on part time to check them out for attitude, punctuality, energy, etc.. If you show that you are capable, you will soon be offered full time employment.

Wayne Dyer - -"The Final Analysis"

Good post William! I really like Wayne Dyer's stuff. He is a very insightful person. I agree with your take on him that he is a spiritual person, but not religious. You would enjoy Walter Starke's book, "Its All God". Kind of reinforces what Mother Teresa said about it being between you and God in the final analysis.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Don't be concerned about your Dad. You can be certain that he survived the experience. He will always be with you because of your special relationship.

Remember the slide rule?
by JH indid you ever work with this contraption?
when i was young, i used it in school.
did you ever use this, and do you still remember how it works?.

Sure I remember the slide rule. I still have a Post Versalog which was top of the line bamboo. I studied Civil Engineering in college and you had to have one as electronic calculators hadn't become available yet. You could always spot the Engineers on campus because they had a slide rule hanging from their belt. I used a circular slide rule for the next 20 years as a Navigator in the USAF. It was called an E6B and was marked to solve for airspeed, altitude, wind, drift, etc.. When I went back to graduate school to get my Masters in Engineering some 14 years later, I didn't see a single slide rule on campus, but all of the engineers had little packets on their belt where they carried their scientific engineering calculator.

The absurdity of petitionary prayer
by logansrun inof all the neurotic and irrational ideas religion has come up with, the notion that god(s) intervenes in the flow of natural events due to a human's prayer has got to be one of the craziest.
let us illustrate the lunacy of the situation.
you have, in your possession, a serum that will either cure the child or at least lessen his pain.

The mystic Joel Goldsmith opined that it was a waste of breath to ask God for anything because God isn't holding back anything. Prayer is important. It is petitionary prayer that is a waste and often self defeating because it acknowledges a lack or limitation. It goes against the advice of Jesus who said:"when you pray, pray believing that you have already received". Robdar has put her finger on the key to the whole thing. We are all connected in ways we don't fully understand. We can know the truth about each other. We can know the perfection in which we are created and remain still and that knowledge must have a reflected effect in our human consciousness.

Undisfellowshipped
When do you think the canon of the old testament was fixed? All of my references say that it was at the Council of Jamnia in 96 A.D.. You would do well to listen to William Penwell. He could teach you a great deal about the history and origins of the bible. Like most fundamentalists, you reject anything that doesn't fit into your neat belief structure.

Phone Calll From My Brother -- He's Reinstated!
by Bendrr ini got a phone call a couple of nights ago from my younger brother.
actually a message on my voice mail.
he called to let me know that last night he and his band would be practicing at his apartment and wanted me to come over because "we haven't hung out together in a long time" his own words to his disfellowshipped brother!

Francois is right. If thinking witnesses (oxymoron?)refused to follow the shunning policy, the GB would miraculously receive "new light". I too believe that it is a sin against the Holy Spirit.
