A more sensible explanation would be that God had nothing to do with the creation of this world. According to the Book of John, the culprit was the "Logos". We are part of that Logos and did it to "do our own thing" without help for God or anyone else.

I second what pmouse said. The Unity Churches are not at all dogmatic and are very accepting of folks from a wide variety of backgrounds. They focus on the metaphysical interpretation of the bible and are open to spiritual healing.

Should I get the New Jerusalem Bible?
by inquirer ini've already got the other catholic bible new american bible.
i've always thought it was a rather good translation, but unhappy at the verse order -- in job some verses have been taken out completely and only used in the footnotes!
this has really got me down, because it's not just in job but they have taken this course in isaiah, habakkuk and many other "minor prophet" books.

I have used the Jerusalem Bible for years and like it very much. It is my "hands down" favorite. It is as accurate as any of them and I find the footnotes referencing the old testament verses found in the new testament very helpful.

As Rev Frank pointed out, the first responders must be local, followed by the state. Apparently, the democratic politicos didn't want Bush to get any credit for helping out. When the federal government finally got involved, the response was slow. No one anticipated the levee failure, even though they should have. However, as has been pointed out before, the problems in New Orleans started many years ago when levee funds were diverted to build docks for the gambling casinos and for the marinas. The hurricane also laid bare some really irresponsible disaster planning for which local officials must accept responsibility. In addition, the majority of the population in New Orleans has been programmed for years to expect the government to wipe their ass for them. They don't seem to be able to do anything for themselves. The folks in Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Lake Charles seem to be of a different mind set.

Where Do Pets Come From?
A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genisis has provided the answer to "Where do Pets come from?"
Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day.
Now we do not see you anymore. We are lonsesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us"
And God said, "I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me."
"Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."
And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.
And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.
And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."
And God said, "I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."
And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.
And they were comforted.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was content and wagged his tail.
After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well."
And God said, "I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worth of adoration."
And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.
And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.
And Adam and Eve learned humility.
And they were greatly improved.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was happy.
And Cat didn't give a shit one way or the other.

Perhaps when the Jewish scribes borrowed that story from the Persians they should have paid more attention to the technical details.

Perhaps the greatest fear of all is having to face the realization that all of the sacrifices made, the countless hours spent in service and in boring meetings, the loss of family, friends, and opportunities, HAS ALL BEEN FOR NOTHING!

witness relatives
by Ellie in.
my mum and older brother came over today, i don't think my brother would have come only my mum needed him to drive her, she only came to see my 8 week old daughter for the first time.. they stayed all of 10 minutes, then went to visit my sister who is still a witness, came back a couple of hours later, my brother stayed in the car while my mum said that my daughter is beautiful and then they left, without so much as a goodbye from my brother.. what an evil religion it is that makes people behave like that towards their own family, and i'm one of the lucky ones because i doubt a lot of you would even get that from their families.

In a wonderful book entitled "One Minute Wisdom" by the late Anthony de Mello, a Jesuit priest whose writings have been censored by the Roman Catholic Church, this account is recorded in a passage labeled Totalitarianism:
"In a conversation with a Bishop, the Master told him, much to the embarrassment of the Disciples, that religious people have a natural bent to cruelty. After the departure of the Bishop, the disciples asked the Master to explain. He replied:
"They are all too willing to sacrifice people in order to advance a purpose"
Does this not describe the Watch Tower and Bible Tract Society?
