Gee, those 200 "classifications" must have evolved pretty quickly to reach the myriad numbers that are present today. Perhaps the bible writers should have checked with the Babylonians they borrowed the story from in order to get it all straight.

Mulan is correct. It is an allegory, and was written to serve a purpose. When the Jews first returned to Jerusalem, they underwent a period of intense religious bigotry. Some of the first returnees had intermarried with those who had come to inhabit the land. After the religious zealots arrived, somewhat later, they were required to divorce their wives. That was a serious business in those days since those wives got no child support and had no means of employment. There was a concentrated effort to drive the "immigrants" from the area, much like what happened when modern day Jews returned to Israel and drove out the Palestinians. The Book of Jonah tends to refute the intense nationalism prevalent in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. It presents a different aspect of God than found in Ezra/Nehemiah. It is a God who loves all people, even those in Nineveh.

I agree that there is no one way or one truth. Met a guy the other day who described his belief structure as being "metaphysical bapticostal". Some of the "new thought" groups such as Religious Science, Unity, Divine Science, are much less critical of other faiths and willing to look for the good(read God) in everyone. Perhaps it is because none of the above are "bible based" although all use and revere the bible. I have concluded that the practice of "bibliolotry" is hazardous to your perception of God.

Some of the themes in the original series were well thought out and quite deep. Many were metaphysical. The technical aspects in the original seem pretty weak by today's standards. I notice that many of the ideas in the original were borrowed for the "next generation". Patrick Stewart is by far the better actor, imho. Next Generation had a far larger budget than the original and they have come a long way with computer generated images.
the deeper you look into, clearer picture is emerging that god had not any input in these writings at all.
there are many verses, even whole passages which exist in some editions and in some they do not.. he evidently didn't supervised writers or copyists and we have plenty of evidences of that, his name in nt included.. since gospels of peter or thomas are not regarded as valuable and important documentations of jesus' life, only one conclusion comes to my mind.. as a moral guide the bible is an excellent book, written by... men!.

Seriously, I actually had a guy tell me that after he jumped on me for reading from the RSV from the pulpit. He was raised on the KJV, and thought we ought to keep it just like Jesus wrote it.

i could never figure out why the org told wives of inactive or brothers doing less, that they were to do their own thing and just not listen to their husbands?
if they were married to a unbeliever the org said to listen to him unless it were a direct vilation of bible standards.

This unbelieving mate knows a great deal about their beliefs and methods. They stink! However, my wife is an educated woman who chooses to ignore the evidence. It is her right to do so. I think they have given up on getting me in. However, I do contribute out of my resources to their organization out of respect for my wife and the contribution she makes to our life. I also gave them $4000 when they built their new Kingdom Hall. Do you suppose thats why they go out of their way to be nice to me.?
