NYC people or those that have been there
by mariposa init appears we will be visiting nyc from about the 16th of dec. for a week or so.
we are going to see some long lost friends of my husband in queens and i'm sure they'll show us around, but there's also going to be alot of drinking and catching up between them and i'll have quite a bit of free time on my hands.
i don't know if we're going to stay with them or not, i've been checking on craigslist for an apt or something we could rent.

In General NYC is a safe place to say, of course it has its seedy, run, down, crack, prostitution areas like any large metropolitan area does.
Staying in Manhattan can be expensive and a Tundra in Manhattan might be a challenge if you arent used to driving there.
Subways are to me the best way to get around and single fairs are $2.00 or you can purchase a weekly pass or a day pass here is the site with that info http://www.mta.info/metrocard/mcgtreng.htm
You may decide that taking a cab with a todler is better and worth the higher cost and those fairs just went up so I cant recall what they are since I seldom take cabs. There are playgrounds in central park, places to just sit in the grass and relax if you want, there is also a zoo so there are things for kids to enjoy. If I think of anything else I'll PM you.

Were You Ever In The Congregation Clique?
by minimus inwere you "fortunate" enough to be part of the "in crowd" or were you a spectator??

As a fader, my biggest concern is for the wife. We will soon be "out" crowd.
On the way out are you sure you arent me?? This is my concern too... currently we're in the elder's and family clique and the in crowd w. the publishers. Though I suspect the elders can see my "bad" attitiude already and some are suspect of me. Its really a matter of time before one of them goes to the CO like a f**king little punk to tattle on me, IDIOTS!

Thoughts on The KM Blood insert
by The Lone Ranger inhello people, i live in australia so maybe this is old news to you guys who live in the usa, but in the australian nov km its has an insert regarding blood, maybe you usa guys got it on oct, but it seems to me that they are watering down the blood issue,.
for the first time they are letting the reader ask themselves the question about how their conscience would feel regarding taking blood, this has never being the case before, theyve always said a christian would not do thisa christian would not do that.
im sure you guys have read the insert, any views????

Since I am still a JW I had the misfortune of attending the meeting where this was discussed.... and it was so stupid.
"there are some cell salvage machines that are primed with whole blood" "some dialysis machines actually pause for a second or 2 before diverting blood back into your body so maybe that pause is too long for your conscience"
And there were many, MANY more stupid comments such as that. Why cant anybody see thru this... counting how long a pause is for pete's sake! The speaker also made sure to comment that we still can't donate blood. So how can we be using the medicine made from it if we dont contribute to it???! Makes no sense.

Faders: Would you prefer attention from the elders or not?
by ringo5 inthis question may produce some flaming, but so be it.
i've noticed many are freaked out, annoyed, worried, or simply felt harrassed when faced with the prospect of a visit from the elders when trying to fade.
others, or at times the same ones, complain that they recieved no inquiry from them at all or very little.

Elders will not visit "apostates". Also in the case of Mulan ,her husband used to be an elder and I have noticed that they too also get ignored for some reason which I am hoping that they do with me once I get the guts to leave this sorry ass religion for good.

Calling all elders and former elders (need advice)
by nonamegiven inwow, i'm asking elders for advice, how strange.
anyway if you want to know my history and where i am look at my first 1/2 dozen or so posts, it'll bring you up to speed.
here's where i need advice.

All good tactics listed above... I vote to go with depression since its true as an elder I never wanted to deal with that since we aren't trained professionally to give advice to depressed individuals. A depressed person will get sympathy from the elder body instead of disdain.
As for how long it will take to get reinstated it really depends on that particular committee and honestly how they feel about you. Were you a difficult person, did you ever "challenge" them or dispute with them since they will call all of this into account even though it has little to do with your case.

Did You Think Elders Should've Been Able To Be "Elders For Life"?
by minimus insome of the stupidest witnesses are elders.
i've known more than a few that were basically "nice guys" but as dumb as a stump!
some never knew when to keep quiet and the other elders always had to cover for them.

Minimus,
You right and the worst critical thinkers are MS elder wannabe's and their wives and regular pioneers. I am sure I have been "brought up" and I dont give a sh*t... I want out!

The Power of the Watchtower Society's literature

going back to the kingdom hall.
details other than the thought was there.

If you are an individual that still attends meetings, how
do you keep yourself insulated from the Watchtower's
propaganda?I day dream during the talks and WT study ,and dont comment besides the occasional "Jesus was a fine example that all christians should strive to imitate". When out in service I pretend to ring the doorbell and never do RV's on anyone. I dont allow my mind to get sucked in and quite frankly its like watching a bad movie every week... just sit thru it and thats it.

Elders are a mixed bag some are idiots and some genuinely try to help. I agree that they should be reviewed from time to time since I know many strive to get there then just slack off.
I am slacking off right now though still an elder. I've been missing meetings left and right, dont comment much anymore, seldom show up for service. This has been going on for months and finally, recently another elder approached me and said hey your attendance seems to be improving (it isn't but I guess he had to start conversation somehow) and said that nobody really has noticed me missing so many meetings so just intergrate back in and you'll be good again......
