I did because I was pioneering at the time and an MS so it was the next logical step. I also aspired to be a CO for a fleeting moment. I'm so glad that wife decided (for me) to have kids instead. Ultimately I wanted these "privleges" because I was a hard core JW and to not have them would not be acceptable.

Why did you want to be an elder?
by ThomasCovenant ini'm curious to know reasons for wanting to be an elder?.
some have expressed to me they wanted to use their abilities to help others.. another said he wanted to be in the inner circle to make sure he was able to look after his families' interests in the event of any future mishaps by his children.. i think many just get caught in the web of handling microphones, then ministerial servant then elder.. i know it's easy for me to say as i wasn't any of these (apart from microphones) but .
i can't help thinking for most men it is simply helping to fulfill a desire for more power.. many don't seem content to be viewed as a mere publisher but want to get in on the action, knowing all the gossip and being involved on decisions.. is it true that deep down, even though most may have good motives, it is still out of a feeling of self importance.. thanks .

The Bible Says that Jesus is God - Definately
by Sirona ini am not a bible believer.
i have a question for those of you who are bible believers.
if you believe that jesus is not god, how do you justify the following:.

I honestly don't know what to believe concerning Jesus and I still tend to believe that the bible is from god...for the most part.
Question though, if the Jews and now the JWs believed that there is only one true god then according to John 1:1 the JWs say Jesus is "a" god...so is he a false god then? Because Jehovah is.. one Jehovah, he is the one and only TRUE god correct?

I've called the service dept .a few times. They really don't help you. In fact on more than one occasion the brother was downright rude and condescending.
I remember I was asking if it was permissable for pioneers to count time for certain things done for elders and I said that I looked and looked but didnt find any reference for it. He then says "you want to know why you didnt find a reference? Because there isnt one, they CAN'T do that" I was taken aback and said thank you and hung up. I wasn't an "apostate" at the time so I shrugged it off that he had a bad day I guess. A**hole! I have other stories but it would definitely expose who I am.....suffice it to say that most times the brothers in service are dicks.

Did You Personally Know of Sex Offenders In The Congregation?
by minimus ini knew of 1 person that should've been reported to the authorities for fooling around with his sisters when he was an older teen and they were much younger.
it was hushed up by the elders, as this was considered a very prominent family.
the allegations were made probably 20 years ago, well before i was ever in that hall.

There was never a reaction from the elders, nothing at all. Not even the other members of the cong talked to us about it. I was a fairly good dub in those days but this made me wonder, why no reaction at all?Why don´t they warn parents when a man like uncle L comes to a new hall-why would this sister be in trouble if they found out she had told me about him?
Because the elders aren't allowed to say anything or warn anyone, it would be considered a breach of confidentiality. I knew of one in my cong. and we were warned by an elders wife before deciding to move to the cong. I decided that we would still go and if this individual so much as looked too long at my kids I would follow him home from a meeting one day and kick his ass.

Will the Real Estate Crash Affect the Watchtower?
by WTWizard ini have heard about all the money that the watchtower society stands to make on all its real estate holdings.
and that's bad news.
with donations going down and lawsuits going up, and the need in nigeria, they are going to need all the money from the real estate that they can get.. there is good news to this, though it may come with a price if you are selling a house.

Doesn't really matter since they will essentially be a "paper" loss since WT bought many of those properties either dirt cheap in the 70's and 80's or back on the early 1900's. Note excerpt from NYPost Article:
"That year, they sold their former book plant at 360 Furman St. for $205 million - more than 50 times the $3.9 million they paid for the 14-story building in 1983, according to records"
So even the Real Estate market is going down it will never dip below what they unitially paid for the prime real estate. Besides Brooklyn Hts is a VERY desireable area to live in so I doubt it would drop that low.

Spiderman 3 (Spoilers, do not read unless you want the movie ruined)
by free2beme ini went and saw spiderman 3 this last weekend and wondered what others thought of it.
i liked it, but felt there was a lot less storyline covered, which seems to be the problem with all of marvels third installments (x3).
i wished it could have had more time with venom, and not the quick battle at the end, that ended all to quick.

Sandman becomes an invincible sand monster, he just stops fighting the police and then comes up and apologizes to Spidey. WTF??? "Oh, I'm sorry bro, here, let's hug."
I agree with the above assessment...it was like the superfriends at the end. Everyone was crying and forgiving.

*** Ssb song 105 Hail Jehovah’s Firstborn! ***
1. Let’s hail Jehovah’s Firstborn
—God’s Heir he has been made—
Who since he was created,
His Father’s voice obeyed.
He made all things existing
In heaven and on earth,
And he, as God’s own Spokesman,
made known Jehovah’s worth.
"He made all things existing.." This is obviously taken from this verse:
(Colossians 1:16) 16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him.
So why is the [other] left out in the song book? Harder to sing I guess?? By the way the brackets mean that they added that, it wasnt in the original writings.

Can a brother buy his way eldership ?
by KAYTEE incan brothers buy their way to stardom (eldership) .
have you known anyone who got to being an elder because of his financial status or by having a broker working for him.. i knew a brother who had been out of the borg for many years, who on his return purchased a carpet for the kingdom hall.. this must have prompted the elders to see his spiritual qualities, because soon after he progressed up the so called ladder, to arrive at a "glorious elder".. have you come across this sort of thing?.

When appointments come around they like to promote friends
I find this to be more important than money in many cases. The elders will try not to promote someone they feel will not tow the company line or agree with the particular mood of that body. It is true friends are often made via money or flaunting of their lifestyle...i.e. hosting gatherings where classy food and drink run aplenty where elders are always invited, but that person still may not be appointed if the PO and other prominent elders dont see eye to eye with him. Unless of course the CO likes him then he'll be shoved down the elders throats and likely be made PO or Secretary or SO eventually.
