  On a Scale of 1 to 10---How Devoted Were You To Being One of Jehovah's Witnesses?

  as i grew up in the religion, i was a 10. i wanted to be made a "servant" because that was instilled in me from infancy.

  i diligently studied ever piece of watchtower literature and defended my religion intensely.. when i got into my 30's, i started to see little cracks in the watchtower's surface but decided to "wait on jehovah".

  then i started to research a little more critically and realized i couldn't defend the prophecies, the treatment of people and the hypocrisy that was becoming more obvious, that especially an elder can see.. it was a gradual thing---from a 10 to a zero!.

  Very sad news. Devo was an incredible band that I am fortunate to have gotten to see in person. I still have a Devo flower pot hat, signed by Mark Mothersbaugh!

  i do, and i hate it.

  people (mostly my brother) tells me to not fear death and just to enjoy life and so on, but that doesn't seem to help any.

  Your fear of death is attributable to your lack of mileage; i.e., you're young and haven't yet experienced the unhappy things you will experience as you go through your 40s and 50s. You won't fear death much as the mileage grows on you . . .

  I remember inviting my father and mother to go out on a Valentine's Day for dinner. Like this year, Valentine's Day was also on a Friday. Dad advised that he could not make it because he had an elder's meeting to attend. I asked Dad, "why would you schedule an elder's meeting on a Friday night that happens to be Valentine's Day. Are you and the other elders too cheap to take your wives out to dinner?"

  Of course, this irritated Dad. He responded as I expected him to respond: "We don't celebrate SAINT VALENTINE'S DAY."

  I laughed at his response, and although he got irritated, he knew I was right.

  ok so i'm not officaily da'd as of yet and the elders (2) come over to my house and want to talk with my wife.

  so i'm thinking there looking for more info on me and ask her to go sit with them in their car since there was no place for privacy at my house.

  then a few minutes later my wife calls me and asks me to meet them out at the car and they drive around and i get in.

  It's not about "head of household" issues, it's about what's proper in a relationship. Would your wife be ok with two women showing up to your house and asking to speak to you in private, in their car, outside of your wife's presence? I doubt it.

  Men need to learn to be men again. The "system of things" we live in has blurred the gender distinctions . . .

  It blows my mind that you would allow your wife to go sit privately with these idiots and have a discussion with them in your absence. I can't even imagine the amount of rage a situation like this would create for me. Fortunately, I married a "worldly" woman whose only exposure to this cult is marrying me, years after I'd stopped attending as a teenager.

  Take a step back, pretend you've never been exposed to the JWs, and think about how inappropriate a normal person would view this situation as. Two men come to the door, ask to speak with your wife, ask to have privacy which is accomplished by having her sit in the car with them, etc. Most people would consider this to be incredibly freakish and some men might even go so far as to throw a punch.

  The power they have over you comes directly from you; you give them whatever power they have. In the words of Nancy Reagan, "just say no" to cult members who try to exercise control over you.

  to thank you for taking the time to read this, because i feel that it is extremely important.

  over the years we have been waring against the watchtower, and our battle field has been the internet.and we have been very successful in establishing discussion forums and online resorces exposing false teachings and we have used youtube to further shed light on the watchtower, we have even written books to this end.. .

  yes we have attacked watchtower at its weakest point, the internet and we have been able to do this as small groups and even individualy.

  I didn't know we were fighting in a "war." We can unite all day long, but at the end of the day, unification of opposers will have zero effect on a corporation that is known to generate over a billion dollars of revenue per year.

  Depriving young adults of "higher education" is one of the biggest sins of the Watchtower. Those who "serve" on the governing body deserve to be used as human spittoons.
