The WT has a new hotshot attorney, Brother S.P. Arlock who is really something, I hear. His powers are magical!

church wants to set up 'destiny city'wednesday, 29 october 2008. the leader of destiny church says plans are underway to create a self-contained "destiny city" for its followers in the middle of south auckland.. .
self-styled bishop brian tamaki made the announcement at the church's 10th birthday conference, held over the weekend.. mr tamaki said donations of more than $2.4 million had already been collected for the creation of the city.. the church was three weeks away from securing an eight-hectare plot "in the heart" of south auckland, tv3 news reported.. plans for the city include a 5000-seat church, maraes, medical centres and schools - eliminating the need for residents to ever leave.. "every child of every member of this church will never go to a state school again," mr tamaki said.. he urged the church's 7000-plus members to sell their homes and move to his city "for the purpose of god".. tv3 news said it had been contacted by a man whose mother planned to sell up six properties in order to donate the money to the church and secure a spot in destiny city.. the church could not be contacted for comment tonight.. nzpa.
Observation: the first post say the site is 8 hectare (which is abt 20 acres), a later post says 10 acres. What strikes me as odd is that neither figure is near big enough to create a 'compound'. It sounds more in line with a convention center
i found it too hard but he should be in there!!!
anyone know how?.
If wikipedia doesn't allow a Sparlock entry, the Unencylopedia site surely will. It is hilarious if you haven't seen it yet. Here is the entry about the name 'Jehovah': http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Jehovah

normally i don't go in for these conspiracy theory ideas, but a comment by kurtbethel on another thread got me to thinking.
might this latest dvd actually be proof that there are operatives inside watchtower hq who are deliberately sabotaging the society's material?
With the Sparlock video, the Society has forgotten one of the basic ideas from their cult indoctrination playbook, that is, don't introduce the weird stuff until the new member is already well along. There are so many positive Christian messages they could have chosen for the first video... showing love to grandma and grandpa, kindness to neighbors, even witnessing to a friend, but no!, they choose a goofy, negative message which only a fully indoctinated Witness would approve of. Just wait until they start to show this video to new or relatively new studies, young mothers with children who study, this is really going to backfire.
a friend, non-jw, went to convention today.
she observed about 1/3 baptized were youth.. ***********************************************.
i read article:.
24/5670 = 0.4%
50/10300 = 0.5%
By contrast I recently found in my old papers a convention program from the Divine Victory Assembly in 1973. The program is from June 21-24, 1973 in Tiger Stadium, Detroit Michigan. There were 982 baptized on Friday morning, with 49,114 in attendance.
982/49114 = 2.0%
Baptisms are only one fourth as much as they used to be.

I could see them making a tweaking change to the NWT, as they did in the mid 80's. It is in need of a major re-work though, with virtually every verse re-phrased to be more readable, which is less likely to happen any time soon.
Concerning their practice to <almost> never release a book on Sunday at the summer conventions, this is simply a matter of practicality. At one time I was involved in the book room at the assemblies, and we were instructed that there were to be no books left over to ship back to the society. We had to make sure to get rid of all of them, even if it meant transferring entire boxes over to some of the congregations who wanted them. The problem with a Sunday release is that if there are any left at the end of day Sunday, the bookroom overseer has a problem. They simply don't want the logistic problem of excess books, and the extra shipping cost to get them either back to WT or to another assembly site.

Since any substantial release is always done by Saturday, I can presume that Fatherless's comments are correct.
I would concur that the NWT needs a major revision, but I doubt we will see one any time soon.
Reason 1, the cost. Every Jw would want/need a copy of the new edition, and the Bible is one of the more expensive to produce. The WT society is too short of cash to produce a translation (and then to re-translate to other languages) in 7 million copies
Reason 2, the Society doesn't have anyone qualified to revise the translation. Wait a minute , they never have had any one qualified to produce a credible translation in the first place... never mind
conventions start may 18 according to jw.org.. hopefully, there will drops in baptisms as reported from 2011. unfortunately, there will be the poor kids..
I think the biggest factor is that of cost. Over the years since the donation arrangement, especially after '08, the releases have gotten fewer, leaner, and cheaper. I don't expect anything this time over 32 pages, maybe a DVD. If there is a book, it will be a paperback 192 pager at most.
