I am more interested in his Mormon background. That has to be a first, for a governing body member to be a former Mormon. Hmmm

Likewise, I don't recall any poems in the Studies in the Scriptures, and I have read all of them. I do recall an occasional poem in the Zion's Watchtower reprints pre-1916. Many of them were written by a lady with the last name of Seibert, if I remember correctly. Maybe some of the new republished editions have some poetry in the Studies.

Curious change in December 15 Study Article
by Bobcat ini ran across a change between the printed edition of the december 15, 2013 wt study edition and the magazine as a pdf download from the jw.org website.. whether the change amounts to much, i'm not sure.
but it is curious.
the change is in paragraph 16 on page 15:.

I suggest that it simply a mistake. Every publicaction will have numerous edits before a final draft is approved. The differences between the print and the PDF are really not significant. It looks to me that one of the two was nothing more than a previous draft.

Another elders kid goes down the tubes not to mention he is the monster of cleveland's nephew
by noni1974 inhttp://www.19actionnews.com/story/24591538/ariel-castros-nephew-indicted-in-kiddie-porn-case.
i knew him since he was a baby, i remember when he was born.
sad fact is he was a spoiled brat and never disciplined for anything.

As this Ariel Castro story has unfolded over the past year, it keeps getting crazier. We already knew that the mom was a jw, as was the sister Marisol and her husband Juan Alicea. There has been nothing yet to suggest that Castro was ever directly involved with JWs, but who knows what may come out of this insane family? Now we find out that the JW-raised nephew is a pervert too. Sick!

I read a study about the WTS-Growth
by JWdaughter inand it said that based on their growth and such, that in 20 years(or by 2020) there would be 28 million jws.
any sign of imminent, widespread persecution that you all have noticed?
i keep hearing about kh's being built and remodeled, and how huge their conventions are.

I think the original poster corrected the years in that the study was predicting 28 million witnesses by 2090, and that the study is ten years old or more. 2090 is a long way away (at least a couple of those overlapping generations they keep talking about) and a lot can happen in the world in 77 years. If there are 7 million now, with a prediction of 28 million in 77 years, that implies a 1.8% growth rate. At the same time, the world population which is about 7 billion now, and lets assume a 1.1% world population growth rate (the figure given for 2012 in Wikipedia), in 77 years the world population would be about 16 billion.
Compounding makes the figures look scary, and the assumption of growth rate really makes a big difference when compounding over such a long period. If either the government opens up in China, or if cultural and religious attitutes change in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc, the 28 million could possibly happen. I find it doubtful though.

in the last 4 months my eyes have been opened to ttatt, my biggest issue is that the elders have been grooming me to appoint me as an elder.

I was asked to be a MS once, which I declined, then soon after that my service time started towards its eventual ZERO, where it is now. They never asked again.

As has been pointed out several times, the number of baptized people does not equate to the number of publishers. If all was well in JW land one would think the two numbers would be moving in the same direction, as indeed was the case up through the 90's when baptisms were numerous and growth in publishers was high. Now the situation is different and surely a source of consternation among the Witness leaders. The number of baptisms is low, and the ratio of baptisms to publishers is at or near an all time low. This is also what I have personally seen at assemblies (midwest US, English speaking) where there are typically between 1 and 6 baptized at circuit assemblies where in the past we would have seen 15 or so. But in spite of this there is still a growth in 'publishers', who may or may not be baptized, or who are inactives coaxed back into reporting time.

WTS HQ: Look At The Map
by metatron inhttp://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/01/04/1263154/-what-s-the-most-jewish-congressional-district-in-america.
take a good look.
provides support for my theory that the society wants to 'hide out' in an area dominated by jewish enclaves - who quietly are a publically unchallenged 'law unto themselves' as they dominate or largely control wide swaths of ny territory right down to local pta elections.. this is not politically correct stuff, folks but power brokers in ny state gov.

Sorry, I don't buy it. The WT has property in Brooklyn . New Jersey, and. New York in areas where there are high percentage of Jews. So what. To then link them to some anti-Semitic theory doesn't make any sense.

Need help from JW History Buffs
by ILoveTTATT ini need help with writing an article regarding vaccinations, organ transplants, and blood transfusions.. i am doing my research using limited amounts of non-wt sources and mostly just the actual wt literature.. what i am having a hard time understanding is:.
most of the articles in the golden age, at least at the beginning of the anti-vaccination stance, are actually written by contributors.
since there are very pro-vaccination articles and then lots of anti-vaccination articles, how can i determine the actual wt viewpoint on vaccinations?.

Woodworth was definitely one of the strangest men in the wt in the pre WW2 era. He apparently had a free hand in editing the 'Golden Age' and 'Consolation'. I think that if we really knew all the facts we would find that 90 percent of the really bizarre content of those magazines was Woodworth's own ideas. Have to admit though that he had some intelligence, however misguided.
A few facts about him I can recall:
single handedly compiled the first Index to WT literature. It was called 'Gems from the mine' and covered all six Studies and 30 yrs of the Zion's WT thru 1909. A tremendous task back then.
co wrote the Finished Mystery in '17.
went to jail with Rutherford in 1918.
worked secularly as an instructor for ICC, a correspondence school based in Scranton PA. I never heard what subject he taught.
