  Latest jw broadcast referring to allegations of protecting pedophiles

  hi folks.. i put this in abuse as i thought it relevant.. a physically in mentally out friend that considers our friendship greater than religion told me that on the latest broadcast steven lett alluded to satans voice being behind people that claim the organisation protects pedophiles.. my friend then went on to say they must be in damage control.. he added, but that is correct, they are hiding their internal records.

  is not that construed as protecting the accused?.

  if i get the inclination i may post a snippet of what was actually said.. sadly my friend is trying to protect his family relationships and so goes along with the charade.. his situation weighs on me but, as many of you here know, it can be a difficult road to travel.. jtg.

  The WT goes through at at least 3 stages in damage control of issues:

  1. Ignore the problem and hope people quit talking about it

  2. Make guarded and cryptic statements in the literature (now including video) which address the questions indirectly. Only if you know the issue do you understand why they are wording the WT that way.

  3. Address the accusations directly without going into much details, to dissuade the JWs from looking into it themselves. They are at this stage with the pedophile issue.

  I would add a 4th, in which they write detailed articles addressing the accusations or points one-by-one, but the WT very seldom/ almost never does this.

  ....but the november 2022 study watchtower will definitely instruct them.. 1) god's name is jehovah!.

  2) jehovah is using an earthly organization to do his will - not jesus!.

  in study article 45, 'jehovah' is mentioned at least 60 times.

  Just a question: anyone got any idea why the Watchtower alternates between "His organization" and "his organization" (capital 'H' and lower case 'h' when referring to God) in the November 2022 Study Watchtower?

  Good question, maybe off topic for this OP, but I have always found this irksome. Conventional English grammar alows for capitalization of pronouns referring to the deity, but the WT is remarkably inconsistent in doing so. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.

  The Rating of outgoing speakers is entirely new to me. I thought I had heard everything, obviously not. I’ve heard a lot of really bad speakers, so the Rating scheme must have more than a few gaps.

  I have always held that the negotiations and leadership which defused the cold war was one of the greatest accomplishments of the 20th century. Kudos to Reagan and Gorbachev. I'd put Lech Welesa in that group too

  Where it all went wrong for the WT - JF Rutherford

  i was thinking a bit about this the other day.

  ct russell, from what i remember about him, kinda seemed like a genuine, nice(ish) guy, although he had a few eccentric but harmless ideas.. during the russell era jws (actually bible students) could still celebrate christmas, worship in other churches if there was no kingdom hall available, and accept blood transfusions.. then after russell died, along came rutherford - a major league a-hole, for sure.. rutherford had plenty of eccentric ideas but at least some of them weren't/aren't harmless.

  some have been long forgotten about - jesus depicted without a beard, the plan to rename the names of the week because names such as thursday (thor's day) is pagan, the articles about the 'dangers' of aluminium, etc.. one key contribution of rutherford which does a lot of harm is no blood transfusions, even in life-threatening situations.. another is shunning, something which never occurred under russell, or at least was much milder.. rutherford has a lot to answer for, i reckon ....

  What other alternatives for the meaning of Babylon the Great ?

  i thought the reasoning sound as to the wt explaination of babylon the great, ( world empire of false religion ) but have any of you knowledge of other plausible explainations?

  or knowledge of other sources that are in agreement with wt?

  Chime in with sbf, I think the traditional idea was that it was code for Rome. I don’t have my Barnes notes anymore, but I seem to remember that was his stand (1800’s thinking).

  Conditions of Watchtower Baptism

  i understand that there are 80 to 100 questions that would-be witnesses must answer correctly before they can be considered eligible for "christian baptism".

  however i have noticed that none of the questions relate to the 607destruction, the 1914 invisible presence and enthronement, or even the 1919 appointment of the faithful slave.. now some may feel my question is ridiculous, but bear with me.. will jehovah's witnesses baptize someone who answers all 100 questions satisfactorily, but rejects 607, 1914 and 1919 and the events the watchtower associates with these dates if they agree not to express their rejection to others?.

  I would argue that if the candidate disbelieves the 1914 chronology and the 1919 dates, then he or she would not agree with questions 72 and 73. So the candidate would not qualify for baptism under the JW definition.
