From Intercourse to Paradise...
by NeonMadman in...with stops along the way in bird-in-hand and lancaster.. that's right.
today, i, my wife and my mother-in-law loaded ourselves into the car and drove down to pennsylvania dutch country, where we visited the towns of intercourse, paradise, and the others i mentioned.
we went to the mennonite information center, where we heard a lecture about the israelite tabernacle in the wilderness, enhanced by viewing an actual size model of the tabernacle.

Animal, I can remember reading about that with the Amish and drugs. Recently, I saw where there was a documentary coming out all about the (undercover) lives of Amish teens. On one of the premium cable networks.

USA Pride / Euro Concerns
by Amazing inmost of the criticism of the usa seems to come from our european brothers and sisters.
i call them such because they primarily settled our continient and are our ancestors.
i have noticed some trends in this and find some fair things on their part for americans to consider.

Thanks Amazing, I think you did a good job at trying to bring balance and perspective to this whole matter.
I try to understand someone else's perspective, you brought out some good points about nationalism I hadn't thought about. In part, I think I will sometimes have to accept the fact that I will never fully appreciate someone in Europe's point of view anymore than I can expect them to fully understand mine.
Kent, point well taken! Gosh, I can remember when I was in grade school and they said by the time I would graduate high school, America would be fully switched over to the Metric system. Well, high school came and went (1983) and I am teaching my 7 year-old the metric system, but I don't see us as a nation on the whole any closer to that goal!

Good-bye everyone!
by Billygoat ini just wanted to share a few things that are on my heart and mind...hope you don't mind reading.
the church i'm affiliated with has several sister churches around the world.
the purpose of those relationships is to encourage and help each other grow in our relationship with god and christ, whether it be by spiritual encouragement or physical help.

Hey Billygoat! You will just love it!!
In Oct. 2000, I went to Moldova on a Medical Team-it was the first time I ever stepped foot on a plane! I went without any of my family. Moldova has to be one of the greatest experinces of my life! One of the Pastors with me later went to Latvia after we left Moldova. He loves it!
I'll be thinking about and praying for you.

Heat Advisory: Philadelphia Assembly Next Weekend
by Room 215 incalling all dubbies in the middle atlantic states unlucky enough to have been assigned to the annual sauna in philly july 11-13.. as the u.s, northeast bakes in sweltering heat and debilitating humidity, what greater first-hand evidence can you find of bethel's callous indifference to your well-being than their persistence in scheduling these pointless hum-drum events in such a notorious blast-furnace environment as vets stadium, when just across the street, at the spectrum, and in countless other venues, air-conditioned auditoriums are readily available to them?
repeated, public warnings in the media of the health hazard to the very young and elderly posed by such conditions fall on deaf ears in brooklyn.
cancel?

The BEST things about the USA
by OUTLAW inwe`ve seen some pretty mean usa bashing.so it`s time for a new thread about the good things in the usa..first off they got coors beer,a dam fine beer i must say.disineyland, what kid dosen`t want to go to disineyland?been there more than a few times and i intend to go again.tex-mex food,i`ll be dammed if i can get a decent enchilada this side of the border.the oregon coast with the giant red wood forest,a beautiful drive on a holiday.the humungas servings when you go to a usa restaraunt, especialy the steakhouse`s.so if you live in the usa,or go for a visit like i do,what are the things you enjoy in the usa?...outlaw edited by - outlaw on 2 july 2002 20:25:30.

The only 2 places outside of the USA I have been to are Moldova (a former Republic of the USSR-near Ukraine and Romania) & Austria. The day I stepped foot back on American soil at Dulles, I was terribly emotional. It was then I realized how fortunate I was to have been born in the USA. It is those experiences I base my observations on.
- Diversity of people
- Freedom to worship as I choose without fear of being beaten up or mocked
- Access to healthcare-we complain alot about our healthcare system, but we don't even have a clue how good we have it! Many Moldovans can't even get Tylenol if they have a headache. They were so happy when given one Tylenol for pain and it was like a "miracle drug" for them! ANd I don't even want to tell you how many children did not have their own toothbrush or even toothpaste! I could go on and on...
- Freedom to travel within my country without fear of being pulled over (for the most part!)by corrupt policemen who only want to bribe you. ( this happened to my group about 3 times in Moldova)
- Elevator maintenanance & regulations! (scary over there!)
- Yes, toilet paper! (scary over there!)
- For that matter-TOILETS! (do you know that in most of Moldova, they use outhouses with holes where you must squat over?) The aparments that had toilets you coudln't flush!
- Electricity-many places I was in had unreliable electricity
- Fresh running Water that is safe to drink ( my hostess had to lug in jugs of water for washing up with and boil it for drinking)
- Refrigeration!
- Air conditioning
- Hot water (every night my hostess would boil a big pot of water for me to wash up with)
- Safety. One night I lay in bed listening to all this commotion out side and I got to thinking that if someone needed help-would they receive it?
I had a wonderful time meeting the people of Moldova- I LOVED my experience and never complained once-I truly felt blessed to have been able to go and meet so many wonderful people-the people of that country are remarkable for what they endure on a daily basis. I know that there are countries even worse off than they are! I can't even fathom what it would be like to grow up in any other country besides America.
I wish every American was able to see what life is like outside our borders to truly appreciate how blessed/fortunate we are!
