I agree, they have to settle their minds with the thought that there is something wrong with us. Otherwise, leaving could be justified and we know that the WTBTS cannot let that thought come up into the minds of the sheeple.

good morning all,.
i have had the opportunity over the last couple of years to speak with a couple of jw's who had either attended the same congregation i did or were married to someone who to the same one.
for the record, i disassociated myself in 1992 due to being followed around by an elder or two who had heard that i had ray franz's "crisis of conscience" in my possession.

for what ever reason i have been contacted by a number of jw's as to why i do not attend the meetings etc.
in the past i have blown it off by saying i am super busy, tired, sick etc.
i had the opportunity just last week when i ran into an elder and his wife at the grocery store to respond to their comment.
Great thought besty.
one of my stated reasons for no longer attending:
"Why do my kids have a lower level of protection from child molesters than elders kids?"
Answer: Disfellowship me.
NJYyou ca'nt deny the many bible truths we have learned so how can the wt society have been so wrong about the "end"?.
one can accept the reason why it did'nt come in 1975, "jehovahs wants people to worship him out of love and not for a date".
but it should have come by the late 1980's .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance
Many of us have experienced the same things in the past.
Dissonance is aroused when people are confronted with information that is inconsistent with their beliefs. If the dissonance is not reduced by changing one's belief, the dissonance can result in restoring consonance through misperception, rejection or refutation of the information, seeking support from others who share the beliefs, and attempting to persuade others.
An early version of cognitive dissonance theory appeared in Leon Festinger's 1956 book, When Prophecy Fails. This book gives an account of the deepening of cult members' faith following the failure of a cult's prophecy that a UFO landing was imminent. The believers met at a pre-determined place and time, believing they alone would survive the Earth's destruction. The appointed time came and passed without incident. They faced acute cognitive dissonance: had they been the victim of a hoax? Had they donated their worldly possessions in vain? Most members chose to believe something less dissonant to resolve reality not meeting their expectations: they believed that the aliens had given earth a second chance, and the group was now empowered to spread the word that earth-spoiling must stop. The group dramatically increased their proselytism despite the failed prophecy. [7]

a couple of days ago, jehovah's witnesses came round to my house.
nothing exceptional in that, you might say.
it happens every day, all over the world.. but those of you who know me, or who have followed my story, know how traumatised i was when i finally got away from them, and you'll remember that i wrote a letter three or four weeks after walking away, ending all contact.
I like to compare the "Truth" to a virus, once you have taken your antibiotic and have beaten that strain of "bug"(WTBTS arguments) any left over "bugs" that present themselves to your "new immune system" will fail in bringing you back down.
On another note, I think it is very important to take ALL of your antibiotic, (continued research ever after you think you are "out") per the Drs order, as if you do not, it can come back to haunt you and take you out.
( I have not seen so many comparisons since the original Leviathan breakdown)

recent responses to teeny's "siestas are bad" blog on jwb have seen witnesses defending their stance against birthdays on the basis that the practice has "pagan origins".
that got me wondering how many things with a "pagan origin" a witness accepts in their daily life without a fuss.
upon examination it seems they may be nearly as "steeped in paganism" as the religions they condemn.. for the details (and at least one good chuckle) please see my latest blog:.
They get around the wedding as being okay as Jehovah institooted the marriage arrangment as he is the 3rd in the three fold chord and now we all know that he likes a 3some.
"No one should throw rice outside as it can kill the birds who eat it. This custom has now been updated to throw bird seed instead. "
Unless you have a over abundance of birds in your area. If not, can you throw boiled rice?
Also, have you seen the JW answer to the calendar paganism?
Read about it here, totally pompous.

if jesus allowed peter to carry a sword for protection, why are the jehovah's witnesses against carry a weapon during their "fun" door-to-door adventuring?
it seems jesus did not mind that peter carried a sword if we read luke 22:36-38. is it another case of picking and choosing what works for their man-made doctrine?.
is defending oneself a violent act, according to the jehovah's witnesses?
Not allowed to carry due to the fact that this makes the angels hovering overhead seem,..... well,... less likely to exist.
Got to keep those fairy tales alive somehow.

How long did it take the GB to squash any rumours back in those days?
Why did they not squash those rumours that were started about 1975 ?
Why did they not come out and state that 1975 as being the date for the big A was not from them?
Where is the BOE letters that state how to reign in these falehoods prior to Oct 1975 would be worht extra points.

i was curious to hear what other believers understand about dinosaurs.
i know we have a few young earth creationists here.
i wondered what you understand about dinosaurs and when they existed, as well as hear from those that believe dinosaurs lived millions of years ago and how it fits into the bible..
It was said in an earlier post:
" The bibles account of creation is very simple and some things don't even add up. Ie. how could plants be created before sunlight or insects? It's obvious that the account of creation is not to be taken literally but merely to give us an 'idea' of how it came about."
But what would be the need to get these atatements out of order? Why would god not relay this info to Moses in the correct sequence? What is the benefit for doing this as it would only lead people that would read it centuries later to doubt a creator existed when relaying it in the correct sequence would help people believe in a creator.

just curious, if anyone had lost faith whilst on jwn and do u think it is an honorable experience?..
I agree "canttleave" I was thinking the same thing, it has stirred interest and that is what it is all about, right?
Mouthy, I'm sending clean rocks, but i'm making sure that they do not have sharp edges.
I think that we all admit that some have lost their "faith" in a creator and some have had their "faith" strengthened from being here.
I think that the bigger question is "Why?" ,... why have some lost belief and some have not? We all see the same informationm same post, albeit I think that we all tend to suffer from "confirmation bias" where we click on threads that tend to support our current beleifs as it makes us feel good all over. Google confirmation bias for those that are not familiar with it. (ahhh, I bet some of you are not even comfortable doing that as you feel that it might open you to change, I get it)
I believe that some believers like the "warm fuzzy feeling and comfort of believing that they are being protected from things that might harm them" and possibly some see the details of something like the "eye" and automatically shutdown any thoughts toward a creator not existing.
I think it has something to do with our comfort level of being able to examine and digest the evidence.
