Remember when the first Caleb video came out? JWs who were shown it while they didn’t expect it usually thought it was a spoof or a mocking video. It didn’t get any one I know to leave, but they couldn’t ever unfeel their instinct to doubt it. And to THINK about what they are being taught. I think priming the pump about changes is a great idea to make their brain stop for a minute about a topic they are justifying and defending and that there is suddenly a new bible teaching to take in and spit out.

Priming the Pump
by days of future passed inthe definition of priming the pump, is put to water manually into the casing of the pump so that it will create a seal and draw the water up.
it's a term used for economics but i like to use it when i am trying to hopefully help a jw, escape.
i view it as a long term endeavor.. whenever there are videos for upcoming conventions, i'll try to work the main theme into a conversation with them.

Recent New Testament translation causing a stir
by careful insharp-witted and well-educated eastern orthodox philosopher and theologian david bentley hart, now a fellow at notre dame, has produced a nt translation (yale univ press 2017) that is causing a major stir.
one-man translations are pretty rare any more, but this one is making a real splash, largely because it does not surrender to the group/translation committee mentality.. .
even though it's been out only a few months, it's already been reviewed several times in well-known publications.

Good catch! Thanks for highlighting this new translation. I quite like the irreverence of the man who seems to have taken it quite seriously.
I think that his refusal to homogenize the translation to give a easy read/single voice was brilliant and highlights how sublimely ridiculous our (previous) reverence for the scriptures and their beauty actually was.

Im Writing An Ex-JW Self Help Book
by pale.emperor inwe all know waking up from the cult and trying to leave is a very scary and life changing experience.
for many it's traumatic and few find the transition easy.
we have to deal with families cutting us off entirely or keeping us at arms length at best, lies being told about us by the organization, ex members gossiping about us and finding ourselves in a world very different from what we're prepared for.. for this reason, i've decided to start writing a self-help book informing jws of what to expect when they leave the org.

Have chapters for "studies" and love interests. Sunnybear has a not uncommon JW problem, not dissimilar to the Muslim woman recently posting of JW players trying to live their 2faced lives and drag some poor victim along for the ride. This seems to be What the Dr. Phil husband did in getting his wife involved, too.

Boyfriend force me to study the bible or no marriage
by MuslimWoman inmy boyfriend, who is a disfellowshipped jehova's witness, asks me to study the bible for 3 months or he won't marry me (i'm a muslim woman).
he loves me and really wants to marry me but he is doing a passive blackmailing: if i don't study for 3 months, 1 time per week, in my home country, and without him, there will be no marriage... as a muslim, i believe the bible is god's word so i look at the bible from time to time and would be happy to study with him.
but the fact that he is kind of saying "study the bible or bye bye no marriage" is really hurtful.

Did You Ever Find The Theolgy of JWs Reasonable?
by minimus inwhen i was a young man growing up in the religion, i would try to defend whatever the understanding of a doctrine was.
i won a lot of arguments based on the idea that i knew better than anyone i was talking to and defended myself admirably.
(lol)....eventually, i realized i was in a cult but for many years i was a believer and i had faith that the gb knew more that i could understand..

When I believed the bible was the inerrant word of god, I thought the JW out up a good argument against the trinity. Then I realized what Christian churches actually teach and I saw that there were real reasons for both sides opinions. Then I realized the bible wasn't historically reliable, nor was it talking to our ideas of truth, fact and that we were indeed unable to ignore the historical church in coming to an understanding of "truth". Then I threw up my hands and figured that if God expected me to figure it out, it wouldn't be debatable.
If there is a God he either wasn't the author of that mess or if he was, there is no chance of getting to any absolute truth and it's impossible to please the conflicted master of the universe, so why try?

Why didn't they just get down to brass racks and have a big "Us vs. Everyone else " and be done with it?
Also looking forward to the new twist of the hailstorm message. Likely this will be another thought provoking leading talk encouraging JWs to speculate themselves into a frenzy of LPA (loyalty proving activities,) resulting in new revenue streams and who knows what kind of shark jumping!

So far I see evidence that he went to show events. Memorial and dedication of building. He has ties, yes, but those are the equivalent of born in Catholics going to Christmas mass and the Vatican.
