  Thanks for the link. It's thought provoking for sure. Here in the US, all we get is carefully filtered media. There are ALWAYS 2 sides to any story. All we are told is what the western governmental bloc wants us to see. I have long held that, though the palestinians are misguided in their actions of suicide bombings and wholesale terrorism. However, the only reason that the Isralis get away with wholesale atrocities and human rights violations is because of the guilt complex that the rest of the western world feels for them. What happened to the jews at the hands of Hitler as well as all those in previous generations during the periods of pogroms is abominable, this is no excuse to pursue their goals by means of force, and stooping to the very same things that they had been victims of in the past.

  Okay...JMO

  Obviously I don't have the answer, or I sure as hell wouldn't be here pontificating at the keyboard.

  Okay, so I know that this was supposed to be a flippant and humorous thread. I just watched "The Boys From Brazil" this weekend. I think that an interesting point that was brought out is that cloning only makes a physical duplicate. For the person's theocratic qualities to be brought to the fore, the individual who was cloned would have to give a detailed history of their life and then all of those details followed in order to bring the clone to the same point in life as they develop to the adult stage. Of course, in the movie, they were trying to create another Hitler. The boys were all nearly 14 and the mission was to kill their fathers because Hitler lost his father at that age. It was an interesting spin and I thought that AMC was spot-on by choosing to broadcast the movie this week.

  you have been following the news for weeks on iraq and wonder, "when will we attack and get this thing done?

  " finally we invade and the war is in full swing.

  the economy, which has been struggling for months now, finally caves in and major retailers fold as of the results of an extremely poor holiday shopping season.

  My only reaction would be to prepare myself for the aftermath. I would want to have my family close to me and be able to pool our resources. I would probably do an inventory on all my leftover Y2K supplies, including ammo.

  seems like tension is high right now, and i really hate tension, especially when i get right in the middle of it...........lol..... i swear i am not a troublemaker ,,, for the most part.... i enjoy this board because i have alot of good friends here, i have learned alot and this place will always have a special place in my heart because of that.. i like moe and randoms board because they are my friends and i like it there too.. i even lurk at jwo because i am nosey and i am interesting in certain ones and what is going on in their world.

  i worry,,,,,,,,,,, because i do care too much of what people think of me,,,,,,,,,, that by going to these other boards that i will be lable as disgruntled.

  i am not in anyway.........i go to different boards because i have friends that go there.

  Well, I know I'm not tremendously active here, but I do enjoy certain things about this board that no others have. Especially when it comes to the different sorts of people. I visit 3 other boards as well as this one. One of these, I have only discovered today. I go to each of these looking for what I need for that particular day and leaving what I can give to others. I really don't give any consideration to what others think of me posting on multiple boards. I have met quality people at all of them, and I have met some real A-holes too. Guess I just figure that if I don't care that my JW wife knows that I even visit and post at these boards, I sure as hell ain't gonna worry about someone I don't have to sleep in the same bed with and what they may think of me.

  It's a Girl!

  my 1st grandchild finally arrived yesterday, the 27th!

  she's the 1st child in our family born outside "the truth" in 67 yrs.

  How much did you give to the WTS?

  there is a lot of talk about the wts wealth, and even perhaps the idea that they are running out of money, hence the reduction at bethel.. i grew up a witness, so most of the time i really didn't have money to give.

  i really preferred toys and things like that.

  as i got older, and got a job as a teenager, then again, my money was spent on more expensive toys, and spending money hanging out with friends.. i got married young, and stayed active as a witness for about 4 more years.

  Well, I didn't give much when I was in. I did give some when I had it to give. I did plenty for the congregation as well as the requisite vehicles, time, clothes, food, etc.

  Last time I was at the hall with my wife, she wrote a check for $100. I didn't really say anything, but it's no secret that I think it's a collosal waste of money, but hey...she makes her own money with her career, so who am I to tell her how to spend it. She indulges my hobby of racing, so if she feels guilty and wants to give away her hard earned money...I guess that's her choice.

  Poverty and JW life style

  tell me, can a person on welfare earning (6000$ a year canadian) or ($4000 american) follow the watchtower life style.

  can that person buy suits, ties, shirts, shoes, trench coats, books, suitcase, magazines, follow to assemblies out of town, put money in the contribution boxes, buy books, watchtowers, awakes, pay the rent, eat, etc... can this be a good reason not to go to the meetings, if the elders ask why you havn't been to the meetings?

  Well, our family was pretty much piss poor the whole time we were in. Somehow, we managed to scrape money or enough help to go to the conventions. I guess many who are that poor see the KH as being a place where they can have more people to leach off of. I think they deserve each other. My ex wife is one who is a leach on society as well as a JW. She somehow manages to leach off of the governent as well as what little child support she gets. She won't get a job...she says she can't work, yet she can be at a quick build project every single day that they are working on the project. To me, it is a calculated decision to be this way. I personally think it's despicable. But then....I'm a guilty of being a materialistic fiend who happens to like living in a nice neighborhood and driving late-model vehicles. I am also willing to work hard enough to make a good living in able to enjoy these things. Hey, if she wants to drive the same old cars and wear all second hand clothes all the while spouting all that garbage from door to door...well hey, it's just more bucks out there that I have the potential of getting.

  just looking to meet some people who, like myself, have decided that being one of jehovah's witnesses was not for them.

  i stopped going about 1 1/2 years ago and have been feeling quite alone.

  Welcome. I too used to live in Kansas. Was baptized at a circut assembly in Pratt, KS. Lived in Liberal and the Dodge City area. Hope you find some comfort here. Just remember, there are lots of different people here and all are at a different place emotionally in their lives. Some are in those dark bitter stages, others in a very comfortable and happy place. Just take what you need from here, leave what you can...and leave the rest.

  Your funeral arrangements?

  though hopefully i am not planning on dying at the moment, but time and unforeseen circumstances can catch up with us all.. previously, i had an elder who is a gentle and kind person lined up to handle my memorial should the need arise.. however, now that i am no longer fully in as it were, i not sure what instructions i should give to my family should the worst arise.

  i can hardly says what i really want is an anglican service or contact the local buddhists.. anyone else thought about this and come to any conclusions?

  My wife...a 'dub...wants to be cremated with a discreet memorial service for freinds and family only. "friend" does not include a bunch of nameless jerkoffs from the local kingdumb hall.

  Me, I have a daughter, so I do want a traditional burial, but nothing extravagant. I feel it is important while my daughter is young to, if anything happened, have a visible and tangible place where my remains are. I have heard that psychologicly, this helps with closure and finality. I also only want close friends and family to say a few words before I'm planted and begin my progression to becoming worm dirt.
