  I'm with George Carlin on this issue. I'm now a Sun worshiper...but I pray to Joe Pesci. After all, he's the kind of guy who can get stuff done. The neighbors downstairs making all the racket...I prayed for years for them to stop. All it took though, was one visit from Joe...no more noisy neighbors.

  Pat Robertson is definitely a nut job. He exemplifies all that is wrong and evil with this radical fundamentalist evangelical movement that seems to have such power today. Just remember....many of the most powerful men in America seem to currently depend on PR and his ilk as their "base".

  Boobah... an acid trip for kids?

  when i get up for work in the morning i normally watch a bit of news in bed before i start to move around.

  the other day i was flipping through the channels and came across a very very strange show on pbs at 6:30 am (dallas channel 13) called boobah.

  it is designed for very young children... and i swear it looks like an acid trip!

  I try to get a feel for what people are thinking before adding my 2 cents in.

  My level and tone of discussion depend on the above, but for the most part I freely express my opinions. It really depends on the circumstances. Ever since I gained my political awareness, I feel like I'm making up for lost time. The one thing I really try to avoid is entering debates where I don't have enough facts about the subject. I'll usually sit back and listen... I can't stand when people who have no idea what they are talking about just start blathering on making no sense and spewing whatever the popular party doctrine may be on that particular day....and that's on both sides of the aisle.

  when i get up for work in the morning i normally watch a bit of news in bed before i start to move around.

  She goes to work, but she's a slob because she'd rather be surfing the net or playing playstation. It affects other parts of her life too. Don't get me wrong, we are here for her and want her to do better with her life...We just don't know what more we can do.

  tonight i am going for a walk with my dellpod on and listen to some tunes.. come home and watch a movie.. tomorrow, i will finish painting some little wooden animals i bought to put on stakes in the front yard.

  then pottery class.. then dinner with friends at a thai restaurant.

  then mitch comes home for one night of snuggling.. sunday.

  Well, hit BB&B for some cookware this morning...Ace Hardware for some parts for my Water Heater...the Cycle shop for a motorcycle helmet for my grandson....home for lunch....this after noon...we're taking our grandson to Disney on Ice: The Incredibles. Tomorrow, cut the grass then go to the Tennessee Titans home opener...probably watch them take a beating from the Ravens....then back to work. Gotta be in Auburn, AL first thing monday morning.

  but if you want the kid to exercise and dance...well, stop stuffing your bloated, goitered face...get off your fat ass and take your kid outside to play...or put some music on and play with them...

  Well, for your information, I wasn't targeting anyone specifically with my comments...they were rather general. Maybe this tubby guy is the last one who should be making weight references...but I find that many are lazy when it comes to spending time with their kids and would rather leave education and development to others...case in point, my stepdaughter. Somewhere along the way she got the idea that her son would just assimilate information and that reading to him and doing activities with him were just not necessary. Looking at other aspects of her life such as her housekeeping abilities, this is primarily because she's lazy.

  I'm a HUGE Heinlein fan. Job: A Comedy of Justice is probably one of my favorites of all time...as well as Stranger in a Strange Land and To Sail Beyond the Sunset.

  I also like Harry Turtledove's alternate history stuff and some Piers Anthony. I loved Enders Game.

  As far as movies...well, where to begin....

  The Matrix Trilogy, Outworld, the BattleStar Gallactica series...old and new....I even like the old Buck Rogers series.

  PS...my wife is a bigger sci-fi fan than me. She just bought a new set of the Robot Trilogy and the Foundation series

  She writes sci-fi short stories in her spare time.

  I think it's okay for fawning grandparents to "baby talk" to their grandkids....but for a TV show to be filled with gibberish...sure it's a time filler with music and color...but if you want the kid to exercise and dance...well, stop stuffing your bloated, goitered face...get off your fat ass and take your kid outside to play...or put some music on and play with them...

  Barny sucks...but at least he TALKS to the kids. As soon as I could, my grandson was directed to things like Sesame Street and Bob the Builder...Thomas & Friends....things that he might actually get some benefit from. My grandson was Bob the Builder for Halloween last year. It was so cute. This year, I'm supposed to take him trick or treating.

  All this swill comes back to people being more and more dependent on things to keep their kids busy without encroaching on their time to do their thing.

  i want to officially retract the opening statment of my "does anyone else not care about katrina?

  " thread.. i've been watching coverage like a hawk all day, and it cannot be compared to the homeless problem in our country.

  i still stand by what i said, which is that we should always support and feel compassion for those who are less fortunate, even when cnn is not involved, but this is definitely different.

  My grocery store...Publix...has a thing where I can donate at the checkout when I buy my groceries. It's very handy. Also, I volunteered with my company. They are donating some cash, as well as two tractors, drivers, and fuel to pull relief supplies to the Gulf Coast for some local charitable organizations. I have volunteered to be one of the drivers...but my boss says that I'll have to take a number as the majority of our 50 drivers have made the same offer.
