  JWs...millennialism?

  last night at church in doctrine class we were learning about eschatology among christians and there are three main views about the end-times/christ's millennial reign.

  i wondered if jws are somewhat amillennial?

  Amillennialism (Latin: a- "no" + millennialism) is a view in Christian end-times theology named for its rejection of the theory that Jesus Christ will have a thousand-year long, physical reign on the earth. This is in opposition to premillennial and some postmillennial interpretations of chapter 20

  of the Book of Revelation.

  In contrast, the amillennial view holds that the thousand years mentioned in Revelation 20 is a symbolic number, not a literal description; that the millennium has already begun and is identical with the current church age, (or more rarely, that it ended with the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 — see Preterism). Amillennialism holds that while Christ's reign during the millennium is spiritual in nature, at the end of the church age, Christ will return in final judgment and establish a permanent physical reign.

  Which one are JWs, amillennial, pre- or post-millennial? To me they seem mostly amillennial in that they think practically everything in Revelation (and most of the Bible) is "symbolic."

  Kingdom Hall got Disassociated

  well, i thought i've seen everything.. a congregation in our city just sold thier kingdom hall.

  they must have been desparate, because they sold it to an evangelical group for an amount less than what they boasted about.

  but, these are hard financial times.. all i could remember is the 25 yrs ago, dedication talk.

  Nothing shocking to me there...the KH I used to go to became a Masonic Temple...go figure...a KH over here became a Baptist church. They don't care who buys it, just that they get money.

  i was considered "exemplary" but i defintely liked my drinking with my other fellow examples.. porn was never a terrible thing to me.

  i looked.. throwing in a few extra hours and placements worked pretty well for me too..

  We'll stick to the bad things I did while still a good lil JW...not later on heh heh.

  Swearing, listening to punk, metal, and alternative rock, dressing like a goth at school and changing before I got home, "dating" "wordly" boys at school (mostly holding hands and writing notes), walking around outside alone with a JW boy at the assemblies/conventions as a teenager, fake studying (random underlines, slightly wrinkling mags to look like they were read), lightly knocking out in service so no one would answer (if they were even home), etc. Other stuff I'm not proud of or want to mention. Heh.

  If the Watch Tower Society discontinued shunning.... new survey!!

  i'm pleased to announce that juan viejo2 has launched a new mini-survey on jwsurvey.org.

  the survey tackles the premise that the society might one day abandon shunning (at least between family members) and asks: what effect might this have on us?.

  the survey is primarily targeted at df'd/da'd and active jws, although there is one question applicable to all, which asks simply whether you agree with the practice of shunning.. there are only a handful of questions, so if you feel inclined, please do visit and take the survey on the link below:.

  Bubblegum Apotheosis, that is the most awesome question I've seen today: If Jesus Christ was to shun all the sinners, who would be left on earth untouched? I SOOO wish I could ask my family members who shun me that question!!

  I used to underline every other sentence or the middle of the middle sentence in every other paragraph because my mom would get mad when my magazine had no underlines. I soon noticed whenever I borrowed hers (I often forgot to bring mine to the meeting) she only underlined things every other paragraph, so I'd do like one highlight per every other paragraph. It still looked studied and since her rule was that I commented at least 2x each meeting it was pretty easy. SOOO glad we don't have to raise hands in church (unless it's during worship, something I still don't quite get...are we holding up the ceiling or something? They call it "holy hands". I don't mind the pointing at God thing but the holding up the ceiling one looks silly to me.)

  It's not a matter of finding the true religion, instead it should be a matter of finding the way a good relationship with God. To me, religion kind of gets in the way of getting to God. Pray, ask for Holy Spirit, read the gospel (and the rest of the Bible but focus on the gospel) and follow Jesus. Welcome!

  I need nothing else

  i just want to be a true christian..i love god and jesus christ....all i simply want is to be a follower of christ...a genuine one...i don't want to read matthew 23 and know that it aptly fits my situation...i want to feel refreshed under the love of my father...i don't want to fake anymore...i shouldn't even have felt the need to anyway.... i don't know what to do....i'm tired and all i want to do is serve the almighty god...i don't want to have doubts because that alone makes me know that this isn't what god wants...i just want to truthfully be a follower of jesus...a true one.

  gosh....i feel as though my life has no direction...all i want to do is follow christ the right way.... i'm sorry for rambling on....

  I felt like you at first, and I think part of it for you is trying to erase the JW lies you've always believed, however one seems to still be bothering you: it seems like you feel Armageddon is about to pounce on you still. It's still coming, but if you love Jesus and follow him you have nothing to worry about. What I did is read the entire New Testament in both the NIV and ESV versions of the Bible. Put your New World Translation away, it's confusing and isn't accurate. Pick it up later when comparing translations, but not now. Put away the WT library, don't pick up those books right now either. Just read the Bible like I did. It's amazing how different it is reading a different translation. God doesn't seem so angry anymore LOL. Read and pray, read and pray. Pour your heart out to God and never worry He won't hear you. Pray for Holy Spirit. To follow Jesus truly you have to try to live as he did and try to do the things he asks of us. All He asks is that you try your best. Stay strong! Peace.

  You're Never Good Enough

  i've talked with a number of jws who have commented that they feel like failures -- that they're never good enough.. if that resonates with someone reading this post, please realize that you are by no means the only one who feels like that.. in fact, the whole wt system depends on keeping jws feeling that way.

  the gb wants you to feel that way.. think about it.

  you are always reading or hearing about someone who puts in an extraordinary number of hours in field service or someone who goes out more than you do despite having twice as many challenges and responsibilities.

  Where is the Society headquarters these days?

  i actually find this whole matter a bit creepy.

  i find it very hard to think of the watch tower society as a cult in the same mould as jonestown or the branch davidians, and yet their out-of-town facilities increasingly take on the appearance of a cultish stronghold.. where is the society headquarters these days?

  is it up in wallkill?

  Their beliefs about who the 144,000 in Revelation are. They call them the "annointed class" and that only they go to heaven, only they can partake of the Lord's Supper because "they are in the new covenant", Jesus is only their mediator, not everyone's, etc.
