This is yet another sad story of a youth thinking he is thinking. (for himself) Count me in among those who would have died at 17. Also count me among those whose parents would have kicked me out of the house and shunned me if I had accepted this lifesaving treatment! No pressure there LOL Sadly, I knew a beautiful, caring, downright awesome 17 yr old girl who had the same disease who made the same decision as this boy. She died about 20 yrs ago. Her parents took comfort that their only child died "faithful", that catchall word that means faithful to the WTBT$. I haven't seen or spoken to those parents since. Wonder if they still feel proud or are now sorry for sacrificing her to "Molech".??

You and the Mrs. are the reason the GB is ramping up their hate campaign to include those within the congregations still attending. The Dec 15, 2013 Watchtower calls those like you "deciples of disorder", They HATE that you don't play by all the rules and worse, you are no longer making contributions. You are taking up space and wearing out the carpet without assisting with the work. If you can stomache it, and ONLY IF you don't have children, I say knock yourself out. Just be aware that you may be making things worse for true believers.

Dear Scully, Your article was most informative. However, I must differ with you on the recommended use of mashed potatoes in an effort to "eliminate" easing nature. In my years of experience with this unclean habit I have noticed that mashed potatoes actually STIMULATE the bowls thus making supressing them even MORE difficult. On the other hand Macaroni and cheese----now THAT is the tie that binds.

tim cook (ceo apple) makes around 378 million a year.. donald trump makes around 60 million a year.. i understand the wbts may have vast property holdings, stocks, bonds, and revenue from donations.. but i can't grasp the incentive for the gb to make this stuff up.

Welcome Syntax, throughout the years people have wondered the same thing about the GB. BOC said it's complicated and I agree. These ordinary men with only basic education were mostly born-in. As one myself, I can say that you grow up believing in "the truth" the same way you believe the earth is round. For at least six decades the WTBTS has stressed social association ONLY with believers . "Keeping seperate from the world" distorts a persons view of everything. So in the beginning the GB members no doubt were true believers who liked attention and wanted to be promoted to "serve". However, with power comes glory-intoxicating! Once on the "OPIUM" there is no motivation to change or leave even when it comes to their attention that a particular doctrine or policy is wrong. The organization must be preserved at all costs-and it is! The present GB have a visual aid of what happens when a member disagrees with the majority-Ray Franz. Who of them wants to be kicked to the curb at this later point in their lives. Go along with the program and prosper. A no-brainer.

It is such a shame that the faithful are not prepared for old age and death. It's like an 80- something still believes in Santa Claus. If they start to realize they were wrong all those years it is devistating! Who will be of comfort and aid to such ones? Certainly NOT the WTBT$. So glad you are there for your dad, Gorby.

Loosingit, Yeah, I found out about the 2 accounts only because I looked up an old friend of mine (she's not old just hadn't talked to her in years lol) She was newly remarried to a man who by his appearence was NOT a JW. All her friends were either non JWs , inactive or DFed many of whom I know. So i thought, goodie! xxxx is obviously Out so i sent her a friend request. She accepted but told me in a private e-mail that she had been reinstated that THAT WEEK (I didn't even know she had been DFed) and put me on her OTHER account with active JWs only! Whhhhhatttt? I didn't WANT to be with them. I didn't have the heart to tell her she put me in the WRONG group!
