Oh I know exactly what you mean. My sister and I (both ex-jws) attended a cousins funeral. We were sitting a row apart from each other. I turned back and smiled at my sister at the sound of all the pages turning in bibles and we both ended up laughing. You think you have forgot it all until something like a hundred people turning pages brings back memories.

Looking up scriptures during meetings
by Stealth inrecently i attended a jw funeral after a 12 year fade.
i did not bring a bible to the talk.
i found it somewhat odd and distracting to the flow of the talk at how much time was spent by all the jws looking up scriptures in the bible that they have all have read 1,000s of times before.

by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inin an effort to get some help and hopefully help others, i'd like to start this thread about psychology, specifically starting with the subject of anger management.. .

what i do have, i've learned to control.

Billy,
You discovered on your own the power of "I" messages verses "you" messages that put others instantly on the defensive. For those who would like to learn more listening and talking techniques is a good book called, "How to talk so kids will listen, and listen so kids will talk". Very easy read.

Welcome Jack,
May you find some peace here. It is mind blowing to finally fully realize how much you have been lied to your entire life. I can only imagine what you went though as an elder, shoot I was taking vodka to the meetings to numb my mind. You just keep thinking about what is best for your children, they will show you the way.

(Sign of the Cross) Through the intercession of Saint Joseph, the patron of a happy death, who passed from this life so blessedy with Mary and Jesus at his side, may Wesley be worthy of a peaceful and grace-filled end to his sojourn on earth. Protect Wesley from a sudden and unprovided death. Be with him always to guide and direct him on his pilgrim way, so that when your summons comes, he may go out to meet you with all the angels and saints in heaven to be happy with you forever. We make this prayer though Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen

Noni,
(Noni means grandma in Italian) I love to read stories like yours, real sucuss stories. Please do not be shy in sharing your feelings of sucess. It seems the only feelings that could be shared as a JW were complaining, poor me stories, unless of course you were talking of an assembly or service. Couldn't be happy about anything non-JW related.
I graduated in 1977 from HS. It was such a struggle with 1975 breathing down my neck all the time. I left in 1986 and started college almost right away. I'll never, ever regret obtaining my master's degree in social work and working in the psychiatric field for 18 years. I grew so much in college and from working in my field. Retired now 7 years and STILL not a day goes by that I do not give myself a pat on the back for leaving the JWs and learning what it means to feel normal via a college education.
They can take my relatives, friends, family, but they can never take away my education. No one can! And I am damn proud of it. You keep going Noni, never look back except to see how far you have come. Be PROUD!!!!!
