honeymoons are pagan! :O
by SPAZnik in.
it was the accepted practice in babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink.
mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month we know today as the honeymoon.

All the time! From first grade all the way up to my 7th grade year. I was not aloowed to fight back, if I did then I was beat by my father as well, I would come home with gum in my hair, get beat up on the bus to and from school, and if I tried to fit in I was picked on even worse. I remember the jw nick names they used to say to me, one time I remember going home from school and I had seen a sister from another cong that was a dear friend, she was very over wieght and the kids on the bus were all making fun of her, when she saw me and smiled and waved, the whole school bus laughed at me, I shrank in my seat.
When my 7th grade year started, I had enough of all of it, I decide that if I was going to get beat, it would only be once and not by some punk kid....some asses were getting the hell beat out of them that year. At the end of the school year I moved away. As bad as some of these kids were, I'm sure a couple of them are in jail...I can only hope!

Disfellowshipping
by larc ini have read many stories here about those who have been disfellowshiped.
they express the pain of the experience, and the emotional trauma they experience.
i have to ask a question.

AlanF, you summed it up in a nut shell. Larc if I would have had any idea at 15 how that act would affect my life at 34, there is no way in hell I would have done it. Not only do you have the peer pressure of being baptized, you also have your parents and every other person pushing and prodding you to do it. So as a very young adult what do you do, you do what you have been told is the "right thing" to do, dedicate your life to Jehovah, not knowing your own feelings or ambitions that you will have in life. What did I expect? I expected to have a normal life just like any other person I saw on a daily basis.Knowing the consequences and knowing what it will do to your life as and adult are two totally different things. To put it more simply, Jesus wasn't baptized till he was 30, he knew what that dedication ment, he was also perfect....how can anyone expect the same from a teenager?

Suicide and JW'S
by obiwan ini have personally had experience with this.
a long time friend committed suicide because of her husband and the problems they were having.
he abused her and ended up leaving her, the elders wouldn't help out much stating that it was a marital problem.. she couldn't cope with him leaving, she was extremely dependant on him, she felt the only way out was suicide.

Proplog..you first!
I came close to suicide, because of everything I lost all of it was jw related, it's very easy to ask yourself what else do you have to live for. Here, here dedalus I agree whole heartedly!

What does SOON mean to a JW
by Noumenon inwas reading some early 1990 wt articles relating to the un, and was amused at the expression 'soon' god will and do this and do that etc.
it made me wonder just what does this expression mean to the average jw.
how relative is this word 'soon' and 'shortly'.

Witnesses still having some success at doors
by JH inriding around the city this morning i saw 2 witnesses from my congregation talking to a man at his door, and they seemed to have placed a book or magazine.
although they did not enter his house, they stead there at his door a couple of minutes.
although most do not answer or accept anything from witnesses, he seemed to be an exception.

Everytime I see some jw's at the door I think "Boy all that waisted time, when they could be drinking a beer." But seriously as long as there are people searching for something to fullfill thier lives there will be mags placed and return visits made. It would take something of a grand scale for all witnessing to cease...maybe aliens!

NOPE! I could never justify it. When I was df'd I was homeless and friend less, I could never work thet kind of life to get where I needed, it was hard, I'm better for, and I have alot of confidence and self respect because of it.
I do wish though that there were some way I could help women in those situations attain a better life, but women who have been in those situations tend to be less than trusting of men in general, as would be expected.
