'We're not going to say what Jehovah did or did not do' - well, that's a first, you normally would say you know exactly what god did!

calling all elders - what goes on at the week long elders school?
by not bitter inmy dad is currently attending a week long elders school.
dad is in his 70's and not in great health at the moment so this is adding to my anger that he is having to leave the house at 7am and doesn't return until 6pm and then has to lock himself away to study further in preparation for the next day.. he has also been told he is not to discuss anything about the school with other elders until they have all attended.
what are they learning about that isnt' already out there for all to read anyway.. they can't be learning more bible stuff as the bible is there to be read by the general public so i can only assume that its all top secret stuff that the rest of the congregation can't know about.

ApostateChick - yes they do. I was told of a case (from an elder who was there) of a couple who came to the elders to confess they had sex before they got married. They'd already confessed and yet this one creepy wee elder was asking the girl questions like 'how did you feel when he touched your breasts'
utterly ridiculous that that's allowed, disgraceful. There was absolutely no reason to ask questions of that sort. I personally feel that some do get off on it, that or enjoy putting people in positions to humiliate them.

I liked this, a friend of mine posted it on Facebook.
'Mandela will die soon, today, tomorrow, next week...it won't be long. Remember this, he out lived Thatcher. When Cameron (UK Prime Minister) latches on the Mandela bandwagon this week remember that in 1985 he was a top member of the federation of conservative students, who produced the 'hang Mandela' posters.
in 1989 Cameron worked in th Tory policy unit at Central Office and went on a anti sanctions fact finding mission to South Africa with pro apartheid lobby firm that was sponsored by Botha. Remember this when he tells the world he was inspired by Madiba'

Too sick or injured but still made it to the meeting!
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini once attended a two day special assembly with my gums bleeding after having 4 widom teeth pulled the day before.
i managed the two days by rinsing out my mouth all day long and placing cotton in my mouth.. one brother had back surgery the week before but attended a two day assembly by laying on a matress in the back of the assembly hall.
why he needed to be there i'll never understand!.

The guy that studied with me in Scotland told me that if I missed the meeting he'd know I had died because that was the only reason to miss the meetings. I used to laugh at that until I realised I was doing it, going to the meeting when I should have been in bed or worse at times, should have been in the hospital.

I'd recommend two books, firstly Crisis of conscience by Ray Franz. That will help you see the inner workings of the watchtower and shows quite clearly (at least to me it does) that its false.
id also recommend God is not Great by Christopher Hitchens. Completely different I know but once the guilt of not going to the meetings has gone by reading Rays book, this book opens up a lot more to sink your teeth into.

Falling asleep whilst praying..
by punkofnice inwhen i believed in jehovah(tm), i'd pray to him at night.
i'd doze off.. i remember admonition from the podium that it was disrespectful to doze off during our personal prayers to imaginary sky god jehovah(tm).. i'd wake up.
say sorry to jehovah(tm) then either carry on grovelling or just end it.. one thing's for sure, asleep or awake, pray or not it makes no difference........no one's listening!.

Punkofnice - I agree with your first post, no ones listening. Whenever I prayed when I was a el'dub'io I never once felt that anyone was listening then, I always felt I was doing it wrong but it never seemed to me there was anyone there.

He's not dead. Not looking amazing for him but he's still alive at the moment.

Gerrit Loesch was at our DC today!
by goatshapeddemon inso, unexpectedly, the final talk was announced today and to my surprise and evil glee, they announced gerrit loesch as the speaker!
first off, at the beginning of his talk, he interrupted himself in the middle of his sentence to scold the microphone brother to lower my mike it's right in my face.. anyway, it was the talk on inspired truth, vs. inspired falsehoods.
he went through 6 expressions inspired by the demons.
