regarding worldly people, shows or toys?
etc...what quotes annoyed you the most?.
for me it was "well, you have to remember, they're worldly"... "don't trust anyone who isn't in the truth" "they may be nice but they are not friends of jehovah"... just a few to name.
Regarding holidays, the scripted and pre-rehearsed line of complete make believe: "We get presents all year round"!
I can count on ONE HAND the number of presents I received as a child and can't think of one time that it was wrapped. Also, one of the presents was a snow shovel!

i once heard of a circuit overseer blaming a loyal ministerial servant, that served as the accounts servant, of steeling from the contribution boxes, simply because he deposited the congregation funds bi-weekly instead of twice a week.
due to the accusation, the ms was immediately removed without hearing his side of the story.
isn't this rather counter-intuitive and innefficient?
We had a couple of legendarily bad COs. The first, when I was younger, had the initials JT. He came through and made a lot of pomp and fluff about how the temple would have never been built if the Israelites had simply gone and nailed two boards up on Saturday. It was hig big analogy for only going in service a couple hours each Saturday not being enough! He would repeat that phrase often, "nailin' your two boards". He also said, "where you gonna be, toes up"! (Symbolizing being dead!) He was the same guy who when first visiting my wife's small rural congregation looked at the audience squinting and saying "This doesn't even look like God's organization!" and "Only about 1 out of 3 of you out there will survive Armageddon"! He made it through a second visit, then we received a letter saying that his wife couldn't handle our cold climate. Wonder if he really got the hook!
The other CO who I think took the cake for being pompous and not even remotely accepting a life of sacrifice! His initials were SC and he made one rural circuit put him up in a motel because nobody's home accomadations were good enough! This was a congregation that struggled to keep the lights on, let alone afford a week's hotel stay for the pompous ass! This was the same CO who later fell in with Larry Graham and Prince and let them show him the sweet life! He was sent to a rural southern circuit after finishing his tour with the 'Artist'. We all speculated that it was punishment for getting caught up in being a wannabe JW celebrity! Anyone else ever encounter this Silver-Spoon-In-Hand Douche?

just wondering if your name describes what you saw, how you were treated when you were "in" or now "out", maybe your personality, ect.... i'm label licker and the why i picked this name was because of all the licking up one side of elders and down the other to either be an elder or ministerial servant.
one time i was standing right in front of this brother who wasn't made an ms yet and he totally ignored me and talked right over my head speaking really loud trying to catch the co's attention.. got sick of watching the poor elderly sitting all alone or standing against the wall like a wall flower with noone to talk to and yet all these label lickers would take turns picking up the elders elderly parents and take them shopping and do their groceries at least four times a week while out in service, yet, there was noone there to take a meal to a sister who just got out of the hospital with a heart attack.
when i had shown up at her apartment with a meal she asked if i could wash her private and change her bandages.
I picked mine, not because I really have No Regrets in general, but when it comes to leaving the Watchtower, there is not a day that goes by that I ever miss the org. Not once, not ever! I do not ever look back with a longing because I think they had the answers all along. I only look back for the people I have lost from my life, never anything else. Never a regret that I got out of a total fraudulent organization pretending to be God's mouthpiece on Earth!

i was curious what is the youngest age any jw has been baptised.
i thought it was hypocritical for jws to say wait for marriage because its such a big deal but "why wait to get baptised".
i think my step sister was 11 years old.
I was baptized at 11.
The youngest I ever heard of was Larry Graham (yes, that Larry that converted Prince) bragging about his daughter getting baptized at 5 and I believe a reqular pioneer by 7 or 8. It was a really gross interview conducted by a CO who had his head completely up the Grahams and Prince's ass. The interview was just a huge brag-fest about Larry's Carribean adventures and then how he got a call "from a certain young man" asking him to move to Minnesota and teach him the Bible. The part was so gross it caused stirrings all over the state. The CO was transplanted from his cushy Big City circuit to a rural circuit in Arkansas soon after, instead of following the rotation they usually did. I think it was punishment!

so this is probably not a big revelation for anyone, but a little for myself.
or at least a sum up of why the jws still cling to many of their beliefs and practices are to gain them notoriety and attention.
so many of the non-witness friends i have now remember the jw kids they grew up with only because they weren't allowed to celebrate the holidays.
Thanks for the bump Zid. I'm bumping it myself because it's been an interesting discussion. Hope you're well!

i am fairly new here.
i came across this site a few years ago and tried to join but i wasn't approved as a member for whatever reason.
well, recently i came across this site again and decided to reapply to be a member and it was approved.
Glad to hear from you! I have spent time up in NoDak working. On one job, I stayed in a motel exactly next door to the Kingdom Hall in Mandan. I was working a ton of hours but did have Sunday off. The memorial happened to be on a Sunday and I thought about maybe going over pretending to be off the street and maybe interested and seeing if I could ask confusing questions. I decided to play bingo in the bar instead! WELCOME!

very good publicity to what a cult is... (ssshhhh i have a crush on savannah guthrie )she is soooo smart!.
The lengthy article in the New Yorker about Haggis was very compelling and disturbing. It also had a very catchy title: "The Apostate"! NR
