Just be Prepared .....
by VitoJW in.... if they are climbing the ladder types, or want a notch in their belt, they will try to persuade him to wait for the co visit... then they will "delete" him instead.... giving themselves a fine pat on the back for not allowing any leaven to corrupt the flock.... trust me...... i've been there.

God is Jesus
by evangelist ini am looking for more scriptures that can prove to a jehovah witness that god is jesus, and jesus is god.i found only one verse so far in 1jo:5:20: and we know that the son of god is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his son jesus christ.
this is the true god, and eternal life.. if you know more scriptures that say directly that god is jesus please tell me the verses the jhw will see plainly that jesus is no way an angel, and he is jehovah god almighty.. my friend said if i can prove by the bible only that jesus is god he will leave the jhw society, and he will know that they are teaching lies and they would be to him a dogma religious sect.
my friend gave me a booklet called should you believe in the trinity?, and is jesus christ the almighty god.

Arguing theology and using the bible as a reference is like arguing about who's better, Lou Gehrig or Ty Cobb and using baseball stats as reference. You just can't settle the questions that way, the available information does not align with the questions being asked.
Oh, and Xenu, you're a boring little asshole who leads a pointless life.

By the pricking of my thumbs....
by Xander in...some ancient wisdom this way comes?
pulling over from another thread.... i'm curious how many have dabbled in witchcraft/spiritism after leaving the jws.
or, perhaps, before joining.. i'm curious what experiences have been had.

Syn, my post specifically did not rule out unconscious influence. All I can add to that is that cards would come up that seemed so incredibly specific that I had a hard time attributing it to just unconscious influence. For the record, I am not a superstitious person, am fairly rational, and believe in scientific method.
Even if tarot is just a way to access the unconscious... well, that's something, wouldn't you say?

When I first tried to step down as a MS, after confessing that I was having a hard time believing the party line, I was asked not to resign while they tried to work things out. They were so insistent on it that I acquiesced, with misgivings. Later, I came to feel that they had some direction from the GB, and were trying to keep the removal option open. I finally wrote a letter and resigned definitely. Your husband should be prepared to do this as well.
I don't think they like resignations...

I tried out tarot, and the I Ching. It was frustrating. I came to feel that something directs divination methods like these, but whatever that something is, it is only intermittently interested in me. Its agenda was not my agenda. Otoh, I certainly felt no sinister presence, just a benign indifference. And I do not rule out some interaction wtih the unconscious, rather than something specifically supernatural.
I dabbled partially to get rid of that feeling of being a witness still. I also smoked a few cigars (something I still do on occasion, played poker and slots, and checked out some porn. I think you have to be your own authority for everything, including the supernatural.
Love the new pic Xander. Spooky.

Running into JWS
by WildTurkey ini ran into a jw couple last night at wal-mart, when i saw them i thought damn, i wish i would have seen them before they saw me.
but anyway we talked for a few minutes, and i was trying real hard to think of a reason to get out of there.
as i talked to him, i could tell he was dying to ask me, why i stopped going to the kingdom hall.

Shepherd #3 - To Shun or not to Shun
by Amazing inyoung, brother b: as noted in story number two, many shepherding visits, maybe the majority, are one-on-one sessions where an elder talks privately with an individual, often someone in the elders book study group, and just as often with jws that an elder simply decides for personal reasons he wants to try and help.. the case of brother b was one of these latter situations.
i met he and his family when i first became a jw in the late 1960s.
brother b was about 8 years old at the time.

Very good, very honest post. It is painful to think of the things I did, thinking I was being righteous. I'm glad I was never made an elder - I did enough damage as an MS.

happy witnesses?
by Realist ini attended sunday meetings at least half a dozen times.
what i noticed is that the witnesses seem to be very happy people.
is that true or just a fassade?

So, should we put the unhappy kids from all beliefs in a special unhappy church?
Fred, that was actually sort of funny. Who wrote that for you?
re: topic - I think this Hungarian proverb applies: Those who believe are happy, those who doubt are wise.

Prisila, you might try looking up your friend from High School. Use classmates.com
One of the best things about getting out for me was looking up old friends. They've been very supportive.
