Does Debating Have to Be Abusive - To Be Effective ?
by flipper inmy wife and i were having an interesting discussion about some of the debates that take place on the board here .
now, granted most people , i feel upwards of 90 % on the board maybe higher try to be respectful in their debates or discussions on topics.
i think we all had enough bashing in the witness organization.

jws taught me that:
Jws are always right, not matter what. They have the answers to all life's questions. . You must not question them- any discussion or deviation from the questions at the bottom of the paragraphs is not allowed- even if you are reading from the Bible. If you question them or engage in 'pointless debate" you could be an apostate. They taught me emotions/ feelings are dangerous and can get you in trouble. It's safer to just not have any. But then a logical thought manges to get through. Now I fell really confused.. This can be the state that posters come to the discussion boards. This is probably why so many feel that any debate/lively discussion is argumentative and abusive.
I recall making a post once and saying that one of the first things I learned here was - I was not always right. It got a few LOL's, but if some of us could remember that- it would be more fun. Or you could say - don't get your knickers in a wad.

The board is much safer than years ago. Still, newbies can be attacked. It happened me. I was so grateful to DG or DJ . can't recall now. so
everything old is new again.
it is OK to disagree, just b/c you have to WTS approved answer may not mean anything here. ( remember there are no questions at the end of the paragraph)
lively debate is still good.
as far as you can, try to develop a thicker skin. people will say things on the net that they would never dream of saying to your face.
I came here in 02 and still come back to be a part of welcoming and helping news ones. I am not a scholar, but i have life experience in several areas that i could be helpful.

by FlyingHighNow ini'd say she'd make it real big with jim bakker.
and she'd likely be very welcomed into the amish community.
i remember all the single brothers were looking for girls that looked like her who were virgin elder's daughters.

When i was in my 30's there was a beautiful woman who attended our KH. (also in early 30's) She was from one of the islands, and she was drop dead gorgeous. One of the elders took her under his wing, b/c so many of the sisters picked on her. she wore sun dresses almost year round, (we have a good climate here) and her bra would always show (large breasted of course, at least DD). it was very low cut, and the dress was short and and well, she makes the young lady in the add look like Pollyanna. But she was one of the kindest persons i have ever known. she really was what i/ anyone would call a Christian. she just was so beautiful and the sisters just hated her. They complained constantly. the elder who was her friend protected her as much as possible, but she and her equally handsome husband moved back to the islands . She fit in there -all the sisters dressed like that.
I recall there were demon problems once, and that elder telling her to place bibles in all "strategic places" while she slept b/c he just knew the demons would be after her sexually.
I 'm sure she is happy in her beautiful island home walking around in a string bikini reading her bible. and she really was a Christian and happily married.
thanks for johnny , he is so pretty.

I have always wondered why we don't have the ability to edit posts indefinitely. I belong to at least three other groups and those boards allows editing basically forever. on occ i have had to ask a mod to open a thread so i could edit it, if the thread was locked.. But they said it was easy enough to do. Of the three boards, I only "pay' to belong to one. so the money is not the factor (even non paying members could edit posts). I could go back to a post i made 5 yrs ago and edit it. I can't erase a thread but i can delete the contents of my own posts. these groups are about "sensitive " matters, such as this board is. so if they can do that, why can't jwd? I have always wondered..many people get what is called" writers regret" and spill their guts about very sensitive stuff and it is a very kind thing to allow this kind of indefinite editing. I have heard folks say that if you do that it messes up the thread, but who do we care about here, the thread or the posters? I do know that posts have been removed from here before, legal matters and such so it is not written in stone. I was once the grateful recipient of this myself. the boards that I'm on that allow this are large like this board too. We all say things we wish we hadn't , esp when we are talking about horrible things that have happened to us at the hands of a JC meeting.
So why couldn't we adopt this ? as i said, the only time a mod on the other boards had to get involved was if the thread was closed. (locked) otherwise we had indefinite editing.

hey JK, I'm a Cowboy fan through and through but I also love the Packers. they are America's two favorite teams. I always watch their games, and not just hoping they will lose, i am a fan. I consider them worthy opponents of the Cowboys. from years ago the Packers and Cowboys have been respectful opponents, not too much trash talking between them. you know, shake hands- best team wins. i saw the ICE BOWL. now that is FOOTBALL.

Only DF somebody if they refuse to stop living with somebody or refuse to stop smoking - in other words totally unrepentant
I thought most of your ideas were very good, and perhaps i agree with fornication not being the best of ideas--but smoking?' that is such a lame reason to DF someone- esp with the consequences.
I don't think Df is biblical at all, people would be encouraged not shunned. even they refuse to change they should still be welcome in God's house.
