Gently Helping Someone to De-Tower
by Scully init looks like today is going to continue to be a day of surprises for me.. one of my daughter's classmates called earlier and said she wanted to go "trick or treating" with my children this hallowe'en.
normally, this wouldn't have surprised me, except that when we first met this family, it was on the little girl's birthday, and her mother made it very clear that they didn't observe birthdays because it was against their faith.
so anyway, i wanted to clarify with the mother today, because she had told me in the interim that they were jws, and i didn't want to cause any offense or do anything that would get the little girl in trouble later on when her mother found out.

The dreaded disfellowshiping
by link in.
i have been informed on good authority (a dub for 27 years) that you cannot get disfelowshiped for committing a wrongdoing, only for being unrepentant.. can anyone tell me if this is true or not, and if it is not where the misunderstanding comes from?

That's just a big loophold.........
All they have to do is determine that you're not repentant enough and out you go. What they want to see is big crocodile tears and a whole lot of begging and pleading for mercy. Gives them the power trip "fix" they're looking for.
What do you think would happen if you walked in their, looked them dead in the eye and only said you're sorry with no tears and no begging and pleading?
Is that repentance enough......

Non-JW wanting to Date a JW....some advice?
by Radium inok here is my situation, i met this girl that is a jw....she is not that heavily into her religion but we talked for a long time face to face and she is very hesitant on attempting to start a relationship.
so i have been researching for the past couple of days to undersatnd her religion and see if there is anything that i could use to dissuade her from saying no.
so last night we talked about the ifs, and buts, and such stuff like that.

there are so many girls out there.......not with the morals of a witness girl of course
Sorry to interrupt but this just irritates the $hit out of me when people make blind blanket assumptions like this. There are just as many chaste and moral non-jw girls out there as there APPEAR to be in the JW organization. Most of the JW kids I've run across have fine tuned living a double life while biding their time till they can support themselves to a artform. When I ws in high school, I knew JW kids who drank and cursed like sailors and others who had so many sexual partners you'd think they were doorknobs where everyone got a turn. Yet they always manages to appear chaste and virtuous to their parents and the congregations.
In fact, my wife came home a couple of weeks ago talking about a "special talk" they had on the very subject of Living Double Lives.
This is nothing more than residual borg "we be better than them" thinking that I will not subscribe too. If you really believe this I suggest you really rethink how much influence the borg still have over you.

WERE YOU A "GOOD" PUBLISHER?
by minimus inone of the first "privileges" any prospective witness has is that of being a publisher.of course, once you're a publisher, you are one for life.
so, either you are a "good" publisher or a "bad" one.
a good publisher has to get the national average,be a "good" example, and pretty much do whatever the elders ask of you.

I was at first considered a good publisher. Led a few Sunday service meetings and read for the book study. Lasted about a year. Till I woke up and realized that I didn't want to relinquish that much control over my life.

Passive Resistence ... 10 Step Program
by Amazing inlegalism: over the last few years ex-jws have discussed much about how to deal with the jws legally, to stop slander, harassment, etc.
... and then somehow try to avoid being da'd or df'd.
this can work, but it take some preplanning and careful strategy to implement ... and in the end, the ex-jw often still gets shunned.

I've done something similar in saying that my issues were not encouraging so they were not something I wanted to talk about freely, but that I needed to sort out personally.
I tried that for a long time. But in almost every case they tried pushing until I would spill the beans since they always feel that they have an answer for any doubt. But we all know what their fallack mantra is don't we...more study....more meeting attendance......more field service. I can't count how many times I've got the "wait on jah" excuse.
Now when JW's get pushy with me I just find something in the immediate area interesting to me and head for it, sometimes while they're in mid-sentence. I've done that so many times now that my wife usually deals with any encounters we have with JW's trying to make sure they never get around to asking me anything.

Lambs in cars/house windows
by Cappuccino OC ini'm making copies of the majority of jw pedophile court cases & giving them to my all of my neighbors in my apartment complex & the complex's to the north & south.
in my apartment complex, i'm going to offer them a free lamb to put by their window or in their car.. i know that an elderette visits one of my neighbores & i'm giving her the un info also so she can show it to the elderette on her next visit.
in the complex north of me an 'annoited' lives there with her non-jw hubby.

It's really hard for me to picture one of the supposedly "annointed" "getting some" from a non-JW spouse...even getting some at all. But, then again, they may be so old now, that "getting some" is the least of their problems.

Which did you prefer? Watchtower or Awake?
by LDH inwhen i was a jw, i really couldn't stomach the watchtowers.
the only articles i would read would be for the family study/watchtower study.
it seemed so archaic and old-people-ish.. i did read the awake from cover to cover almost every time.

We were told reading the information printed in AWAKE is just as good as a college education. Be sure to put that on your resume next time you go looking for a job that requires a college degree.
One of my relatives used to go on and on about this particular piece of WT truth a lot after she was first baptised when I talked about going back to school. She would go running around telling people "I'm in the best school in the world...the Theocratic Ministry School!! She even put this on job applications and resumes. Took her about 10 years of doing nothing but cold-call minimum wage telemarketing and me graduating and finally getting a decent job for her to realize that her "Theocratic MInistry School" credentials were worth about as much in the real world as a bucket of warm cow $hit.
