  over a year ago i divorced my husband.

  he is the son of an elder, was addicted to pornography, and started doing drugs before i called it quits.

  since then, i have met someone else.

  G'day praying_mantis,

  Thanks for telling your story. Reading through it seems you have been "co-operating" by playing their game. Perhaps your experience will help others who 'lurk' on this board to see that the elders will always have power over you if you let them. They are trained persecuters. They will not admit it but their procedures learned by them from the Borg bear all the hallmarks of a cult. Don't let them near you is my advice. If you have resolved to make a life apart from the Watchtower, then show it and do it.

  It wasn't clear to me from your account as to the position of your family. Is your fiancee one who is reliable and strong to support you? I hope so.

  Skimmer has said "You are now in the process of finding out which friends are real and which are just hypocrites". Be prepared to find that there won't be many. In "the truth" you may have thought you had plenty of friends. In reality, they are acquaintances. Any friendships are conditional. They are the cold hard facts.

  The good news is that many thousands of exJWs have found a happy life away from the Borg.

  May that be your happy experience.

  Smurfs

  by now most of us have heard the urban legends of smurfs vs. jw's.. such as smurf dolls walking down kingdom hall aisles or strangling jw babies (replaced dingos eating them in australia lol).. the initial problem jw's had with smurfs was that on the tv show they were conjuring up spells, later more ummm "enlightened" jw viewers started questioning a community of all males with only one female (smurfette).. so jw's felt that it was not appropriate for jw children to watch shows about magic.. it is this same reasoning that has scared some away more recently rom harry potter novels and pokemon.. it was stupid when it involved smurfs and is just as stupid now.

  but there ya have it, the main reasons (if you can call them that...) that jw's hate smurfs and developed such wild stories to enforce their opinion.. kismet

  Prisca,

  I remember that Watchtower illustration with the Cabbage Patch doll. It was so pointed that we figured it must be the Society letting all the R&F know that it was OK. At least it was used quite strongly by Mrs Ozzie to try to correct the views of many in the cong. who had been promoting the demon connection.

  How naive we all were!

  ARE AVERAGE JWs DECEPTIVE?

  i ask this because on this and other forums that have a large share of former jws, our stated experiences and encounters during and after our jw membership seem to reflect that the wts and its body of believers are most corrupt.

  likewise, those never associated who read our posts may get the impression that even visiting a kingdom hall may result in serious negative events.. i believe that it is important to remind everyone that the average jw is a generally good person.

  most try to live good lives, act on their beliefs, and promote what they feel is the truth.

  Thanks everybody for an EXCELLENT discussion, and especially to Amazing for 'kicking it off'.

  So many of the R&F are oblivious to the darker side of the Borg. They believe that JAH=Borg because it's repeated ad infinitum. The avge R&F doesn't have time (or inclination) to meditate, to stand back and look at the org objectively. They continue in their 5 meetings pw routine believing that "it must be so". It wasn't till I had meetings and long theological/scriptural discussions with clergymen that I was able to see that they were not the Bible-ignorant feathering their own nest types that the W/T had led me to believe. I found that they knew far more of the scriptures (and in context) than the avge Witness elder. The thing is, I just didn't know. I relied on what the Borg had told me. And I taught it, sometimes passionately!, from the KH platform.

  And that is a very real and serious problem. Lurkers here need to be aware of this. We have dozens of our JW friends who are going through agonies. How to help our friends becomes a constant activity for us.

  Up to a point. But remember that that is true of most in the general community. Don't forget that the average JW is taught to hate. Just look at the whole DF/DA process and how the R&F are forced by intimidation to deny their God-given feelings towards others.

  How much as the Lord used the Watch Tower Society? Is it the anti-Christ? These are relevant questions for those becoming newly interested in the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  Oh dear, Had Enough, you were a bad mom! Fancy reading those demonised fairy tales to your kiddies at bedtime. No wonder kids are mal-adjusted

  Here in Oz that was, and is, a definite no-no. The elders will be making a 'shepherding call' to talk to you about your errant behaviour!

  What the hell am I going to do with these books?!?

  what am i going to do with all the books (for field service) that i still got??

  i got 5 "life" books, 3 nwt's, 5 "knowledge" books, 3 of every brochure, 10 "required" brochures, 2 "creator" books, 2 "family" books and a 12 inch pile of wt's and awakes?

  (i got another box of books to got thru in a minute) and i didn't even pay for them!.

  You're not into collecting things, eh? Not even 'old light'? All the publications you have in stock (except perhaps for the NWT) contain 'old light' (teachings that have been revised). What about your witnessing bag? your meeting bag? your street witnessing folder?

  Mine are stored. I couldn't (wouldn't want to) use them again.

  Does anyone remember Cabbage Patch dolls? These rather unattractive dolls were all the rage some years ago, at least here in Oz.

  They were viewed as being channels for the demons by many (most) Witnesses, so that they were mentioned from the KH platform in talks as things to be avoided. It reached such an excited state that we had a Branch Committee member give a talk at the District Convention in an attempt to dampen down the hysteria.

  BTW what about garden gnomes?

  In thes "enlightened" times many JWs I've spoken to express no knowledge of that article. Frankly, it should be 'required reading'; it's an eye-opener to the real insidiousness of this "organisation" thing among the Witnesses. As you rightly highlight it, let's make it on our 'must reads' for lurkers.

  For their benefit it's Watchtower March 1st, 1979. The cover shows people with happy faces streaming from God's Holy Mountain while OT types look on in fear. The caption on the cover reads: "PUT FAITH in a VICTORIOUS ORGANISATION" [no emphasis added]

  Does anyone agree that this is blasphemy?

  G'day all,

  Do you not think it curious that the Society teach that Jehovah rewards those who do good to Christ's brothers? But who are they? Again the Society have pointed to the field service as showing support for Christ's brothers. Yet, as has been pointed out above, it's only the GB that seem to have anything to do with the feeding of the multitude. Therefore, it seems that the criterion is the doing good to the GB.

  Just a thought.

  Recommend you guys also read Ray's second book "In Search of Christian Freedom" a much larger tome but well worth it. The two books fit nicely together. You must read them both.

  TO ANY JWs LURKING HERE: You cannot possible read Ray Franz's books and remain the same. They change you. How? By opening the reader's eyes to the real 'truth' of the organisation and its doctrines.
  Happy Reading everybody! Once you start, you can't put them down, eh?

  Nice one! "H. G. Wells held that the spirit of Constantine dominated church affairs, and he observed: “The idea of stamping out all controversy and division, stamping out all thought, by imposing one dogmatic creed upon all believers"

  Notice the use of the word 'creed'. The WTS denies that Witnesses have a creed. So perhaps the cap doesn't fit after all
