Is there any hope for the uneducated Jw's?

i was thinking of the ones who would say to me " i don't like to read/study" " i'm not really academinc".

are these people doomed to blindly follow the gb forever, thinking that all the study has been done for them and they will just belive what they are told?.

is it mainly the smart thinking people who leave?.

My mother is one of those people. She hates to read, and she hates history. I once asked her why she in a religion where it is all about history. She said she had to get better at study. So she does not read very much. Hardly ever studies. She said gets all the information from the platform. I figured out long ago why she is a jw. She does not have to make any decisions for herself. Anything she does she can blame on her religion. She is one of those people who like having someone think for them. I feel sorry for her, but the watchtower is all she has. Her life is so awful, the kingdom hall is a happy place for her. (People treat her like crap, she is poor, old, and married to a "worldy" man.) But to change now would mean she has wasted the last 40 some odd years of her life. I hate it, but I understand too. How do we get along? I moved 2000 miles away, and now she misses me.

I haven't been on the board for a long time, it's nice to come back for a visit.

Would You Stop Going To Mel Gibson Movies???

i don't care too much for spike lee but i like some of his movies.....i just think mel needs some help.

I'll still go to Mel's movies. He was stupid, drank too much and drove a car. Then when he got caught he ran his mouth. Well, if I was going to shun someone for that I would have to start with brother. And he is only an actor, who really cares what his thoughts are on politics or religion or anything. I think this should never have been a new item in the first place. He only makes movies for God's sake, it doesn't make him smart or better or anything else. It only made him rich. Now Tom Cruise on the other hand makes me sick. According to him I am a bad mother because I got me son medication for his bi polar disorder. But if Tom ever stars in a really good movie, I might actually go see it. But it would have to be excellent. Pam

What impact did the internet have on your decision to leave the JW's?

on another thread, a co says that sites like these don't have much impact on their numbers.. personally i didn't leave because of this site or any other xjw site.. i was unhappy and felt that something was wrong and this site confirmed what i felt.. how about you?

I was already fading out, but felt so guilty about it. Then I finally decided to look on the internet. I had the internet for a year before the idea even came to me. I know,I was slow. But from what I found,the guilt went away, and I knew I was doing the right thing. Pam

Is There Anything That You Still Believe In Because of the Witnesses?

i still don't believe in hellfire.

i think astrology and palm reading is ridiculous.

that's a couple of things that i know i got from being a jw......what about you??

There are many things I no longer believe in because of the witnesses. I don't believe in the Bible, it is just a book, and I don't believe in hell, because I don't believe in original sin. So with sin why would you need hell? I am not sure what I believe about God, except if there is one she would not be so petty as Jehovah seems to be. Pam

College -- Online vs. Classroom

has anyone out there taken online classes only to obtain a degree?

i finally bit the bullet and will be returning to school in september.

i went to a community college many years ago, but never finished what i started.

I did the online college thing for about 9 months, then I got a promotion at work. With more work I just didn't have time to do college. I found online to be easier as far as being home, but hard because everything had to be written. And it was harder to get help if when I needed it. I would probably do online agan just because it fit better into my schedule. But since I now have a better job, I put my degree on hold. And I am kind of glad I did, I didn't realize how much of my time was taken up with schoolwork until I quit. I have so much less stress now. Pam

For NICE PEOPLE only!

it seems as though many people come to this board and leave in a short space of time.. it's a pity.. there are people on this board who are very nice and polite even when discussing various views.

this leads to understanding and concern.

i would like to meet you people.. please post in here.. i term nice as being kind, not cursing, love for god almighty, thrives on the right things in life, not hurting other's feelings, etc.. blessed star

I am nice, most the time. This is probably one of the dumbest threads I have read in a long time. But I needed a good laugh today. Oh, I cuss alot and often. Just a bad habit I picked up. And I think the Bible was written by a bunch of old men who hated women. I am not sure about divinity of any kind. So maybe I am not nice after all. Oh well, ..

What Things Did You Think Were "Demonized"?

everything, when i was growing up was connected to "demonism".

handwriting analysis was borderline.

wind chimes would bring the demons right to your porch!

Just about everything was demonized. My mom claimed to hear knocking on the wall in my Grandma's house, she was sure it was demons trying to get my mom to not be baptized. She used to run around outside the house at night to try and see one. And wow! after she was dunked, no more knocking. I guess the demons thought my mom was important or something. Later we had a rocking chair my mom was sure demonized.She swore it woke up my baby brother everytime he was put asleep into the crib. We had to bust it up and burn it. It was all kind of wierd. I used to really be afraid that anything I did would make demons come to my house. My mom is still that way to this day. My sister is always talking about demons.

Do you still believe?

i have found a lot of people no longer believe in god or jesus since leaving the organization.. im very shocked at this.

if you dont believe, can you tell me what brought to that conclusion?.

i was told to look at the thread that one of the members in this forum has created, they are very interesting, but i wanted to get a some feed back from different individuals.. thanks!

I did at first because what other christian religions taught was so different than what I had always been told they taught. But I still had questions like where did the Bible really come from and how did we get it. I started doing research, right here on jwd. Some of the older research threads are great and then I started digging on the internet and getting books that were recommended. Now I believe more in me and what I can do than in a divine being. Though sometimes I miss the days when I was part of a church, it was nice to belong, but still be able to choose to leave. I pretty much research myself out of any christian faith, and am now trying to figure out where to go from here.

For me I was the poor kid from the poor family so I had few friends in the congregation. I would have welcomed anyone if they would have been friends with me. As I got older I had my children and then didn't have time or energy to judge anyone. Today I have no trouble accepting people as they are as long as they treat me with respect.
