No they don't. My mom didn't even know they changed the mission statement in the Awake, until I showed it to her. Then it didn't really mean anything to her. She has the standard Jehovah will make it clear one day response.

unfortunately, in my experience not.
even most of the elders i have met have a poor knowledge of what the society teaches.
some basic questions will still get "mature" ones scratching their heads.. .

when h2o and a few other boards were around, a few years back, they all became known for something unique.
h2o was where you went to see some great debates and really learn how to disprove the "truth".
randy's site was one of the first places that gave snippets of all the local ex and jw gossip, for the week.
Friends. This place is where all the great friendships happen.

what is the stupidest thing a jw ever told you?
we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.
for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.
Here's another one. Just a few months ago, I was talking to my mom, and she commented that my brother's little children will probably not grow up to be adults. She said it so matter-of-factly. Like it was no big deal.
When my oldest son was born she said, "he'll never have to go to school, etc. He will be 21 this summer.
Why would you want to worship a so-called god that would kill your grandbabies?

I was once given a bunch of clothes for my son, and a couple of them had smurfs on them. My son liked smurfs, and my aunt was like "I never let my kids wear smurfs." I think I said something like my kid does, and took the shirts. She muttered about that for the rest of the day. She kept telling me to throw them away. Always thought the whole smurf thing was unbelievable.

its my first post and i don't really know where to start, there been so much on my mind.
i've been reading threads on this site like crazy and obtained a copy of coc from the library yesterday.
i stayed up until 4am reading it, and i'm impressed with the way it was written - its just like reading a w only the subject matter is a little different hehe.. i'll break myself in gently with this site over time but basically a few things about me are: born in a jw family, baptized as a young teen, 1 yr aux pio, several yrs as reg pio, 1 year as 'special' full time pio at bethel.
Welcome to the board. This is a great place to be. You can learn things about stuff you never knew you had questions about.
Pam

i love to read everyone's post , although i dont get to reply as much as i want , too many kids here hogging the computer ....lol.
but still, my heart aches when others hurt, going thru painful things in life, and i my heart is happy when i hear great news that each of you have.
it is not always easy to open up and tell what you might be going thru at any given time, but so many just go ahead and do it,,,,,that helps so many..... more than you will know.
Happy V-Day to everyone too. Don't forget to show a little love to yourself today too.
Pam

maverick brought out a good point a few days ago, and i quote.
"you know what dustyb, we should all go back!
can you imagine what would happen if all "apostates" everywhere went to the k-hall next sunday?
Man, someone might actually have fun at a meeting.
No wait! that would bring the end of the world.
Pam
do any of you have witness parents?
if so, how do you deal with them?
i'm not fealing really great about the way everything has turned out.
My mom is a long time jw, about 36 or so years. We have a very careful relationship. She hints at meeting stuff and I ignore it. Sometimes though she says things that I just can't stand, like she expects her youngest grandchildren will never become adults, that God will kill them. That made me so angry. Why would anyone want to worship a God that was going to kill her grandchildren. Of course, she said my oldest would never go to grade school. He is 20 now, and about to enlist in the army. (my mom took that news very well.) My youngest sister is a holier than thou jw, and I can't stand her. I go out of my way not to speak to her. When ever she opens her mouth, stupidity falls out. She married a total stranger when she was 19 or 20 because he was the only jw single man around. They have such a (gag) great marriage!!! After all they are in the 'truth'. I try hard to speak to my mom, and show her respect, but sometimes it has hard.
