Oh gosh. There are soooo... many memorable talks, but this one that really sticks out was given by an elderly visiting brother. I to this day have no idea what the talk was supposed to be. His talk was about the Donna Reed (sp?) show. Yep, all about episodes showing family life, and how that was a good example...yaddayadddayadda. My husband and I looked at each other with deep confusion. I thought oh! good grief (I didn't say "oh god" at the time) I'm not even wearing a Donna Reed petticoat. After the talk the local power wasted no time in approaching the visitor. I mean they could've waited until after the WTS, who knows what he'd have added to that...Father knows best?

Any talks from the hall or assembly still stick out in your mind ???
by run dont walk ini will never forget a talk at the assembly where the speaker had a 6 year old child on stage,.
and the experience went something like this.. while at school, the child said something to another schoolmate to the effect of ............................. "i cannot associate with you, because bad association spoil useful habits.".
"and if you don't serve jehovah, you will be destroyed at armageddon.".

The Borg's fear of demons (Worship Bk, chap 18)
by ozziepost inone characteristic of dubs is a preoccupation and fear of the demons.
their literature contains descriptions of a contest between the creator god and satan, such as found in their recently publication worship the only true god.

Boy-o do I remember being afraid of demons! Especially the ones trying to get into my chaste bedclothes. The bible is a story to create a feeling of nationalism for the Isrealites coming out of Babylon. And yikes did those Babylonians ever have demon fears. Apparently w/good reason since thats SaddhamHusseins neck o'the wudz.
We've got much more modern stories in the US. George Washington, the father of our country chopped down his family cherry tree and then was unable to lie about the nefarious deal and
then demons(oops I'm confused!) then his father punished him. -

Has anyone seen the article, Young People Ask., Do I need a mobile phone?
by laylaluv inhas anyone seen the article, young people ask........do i need a mobile phone?
this is on the home page of the society.
jesus stated the wise principle that one should "calculate the expense" before undertaking an important project.

Whole congregations were getting mobile phones by 1990. I believe brothers were selling them.

LOVE?
These people are kidding! What in the Bible is really about LOVE? Oh yeah, the non-jews who didn't want to sacrifice Jonah! Unlike their "Jehovah/God fearing" neighbors who slaughtered women and children with no conscience/no problem.
We've all seen so much of this talk about love. It's not gonna happen. Not with Jws not with the human race.

i have always tried to love others from my own childhood upbringing.
i have been treated like a traitor.

Hi, I've also read Carl Sagan's Demon Haunted World and I keep returning to the Baloney Detection kit. I'm not sure but if I'd been asked to a JC I might have gone. Now I wouldn't, but those beliefs and fears take awhile to lose. "Knowledge is Power" so if you know how these JC's are conducted (your knowledge) then you are able to keep your "power" and not allow the local elders even a glimpse of you . Your new power will upset them and make them want to make you miserable.

Jehovahs Witness Logical Fallacies.pt1
by Brummie injehovahs witness logical fallacies.pt1.
in fact, many of the bad experiences people have with jws are caused by actions that the society does not encourage.. .
logan i have started a new thread simply because if a jw read your old one they may be happy enough not go back to reread this if it was posted there.. one of the things that kept me holding on to the jw faith was the thought that many of the bad experiences people have with jws are caused by actions the soceity does not encourage.

Brummie, This is an great thread for all of us to rethink what our WTS years consisted of and how we dealt with issues which confronted us.
I remember thinking that "my sisters" had no reason to stay home when they should be pioneering. I remember not so much the gossip but always wanting the last word or the "power position" to make others feel bad. Why? Because even at pioneer school I felt unworthy to serve Jehovah, like nothing I did would ever be enough. But The only solace I got was from a tear stained pillow. Even my husband (a pioneer elder) Didn't understand my saddness. My own insecurity made me mean to others. I think this happens w/elders a lot too. They feel inferior somehow and must make up for it with meaness. So I became more non-chalantly uppity, every chance I got to float my pioneer flag. Finally, I realized how unchristian the whole game of service really was and did I want to continue? Nope. And little by little other pieces of individual thoughts crept in... you know the rest.
The WTS gov.bod. are certainly responsible for the trickle down evil which they do promote through their iron prod of law. The patriarchal system only encourages misogynistic behavior.

Hey My Birthday !!!
by johnathanseagull ina year to the day that i found and joined this site, after some years out of the org, it never crossed my mind that a place like this would even exist, and i'm not afraid to admit that it took three weeks to stop myself from crying every time i came here, for over 10 years i thought i was on my own with my borg past, the shunning etc etc.
this place has allowed me to deal with my past and will with my future too........i could write many words of course......but sometimes words are not needed.........accolades abound for you all here..........thank you.. jgull .
the record shows.

Happy Birthday! I know the feeling of appreciation that you expressed. I'm glad we found one another, it doesn't matter if we're sarcastic or dead serious or simply imaginative... We're all glad to have freed our minds and just plain shocked when we run into those who shun us...as if it mattered anymore.
Happy Happy Birthday!

Are They Losing the Old, Too?
by metatron ini was quite surprized when a relative of mine needed a ride to the district assembly and couldn't find one.. what surprized me was two older sisters, who have been utterly faithful over the years, separately said they aren't going.. we already know the watchtower is losing witness kids enmasse but this looks unusual.
what's left for old-timers anyway?
all the urgent depth of doctrine is gone - the society can't defend anything.

Maybe someone else has had this thought or experience. That the jws who do help the old or disabled would do that whether or not thay were jws. I don't believe peoples character changes, I know I'm the same person in or out.

Here's why your always tired!
by gumby inwhy i am tired..........
for a couple years i've been blaming it on lack of sleep, not enough sunshine, too much pressure from my job, earwax buildup, poor blood or anything else i could think of.
but now i found out the real reason: i'm tired because i'm overworked.

DOES ANYONE ELSE REMEMBER THE SERVICE MEETING PARTS WHERE WE WERE TOLD HOW MANY HOURS WERE IN A MONTH, WEEK, DAY.HOW MUCH TIME WE WASTED SLEEPING ,EATING, relieving ourselves of what we ate... so what about all that extra time we waste...we should spend that in field service drinking coffee, gossiping in car groups, wishing JAH would get on with it and end this suffering...
