SP: The ACLU is supposed to fight for anyones Constitutional rights, not just lefties. A person flying a flag is not necessarily "right". I like to see everyone flying the flag. Yet I'm pro choice. pro anybody can get married, pro open borders, anti-giveaways to non-citizens, pro legalization of drugs, pro-atheism so would the ACLU fight for my rights? Where do I fit in?

Yet another example of how silly the Bible is...
by Abaddon inokay, let's go along with the flood story for a moment, to the point where noah exits the ark.. here we have noah, with two of each animal and seven of the clean animals; maybe a few dozen animals that were not essential to the future survival of the species.. what does god do?.
tells noah he can eat animals now.. are you telling me an all-wise, all-knowing god isn't capable of better planning than that?
which strikes you as more likely?

Well, for those of you who have not seen me say this before:
God is just pretend.
Men wrote the Bible after release from Babylonian captivity in order to have some sense of nationalism like the assyrians and Babylonians. Many of the stories were taken from said cultures. Including Noah and the flood.

Would a Good God Really Create a Place Called HELL?
by Blueblades ini have read a number of different materials on this subject, doctrine, teaching, topic and still can't reconcile that a good god would really create a place called hell.
jeremiah 7:31and 19:5 and they have built the high places of tophet, which is in the valley of the son of hinnom,to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which i did not command ,nor did it come into my heart.
if burning of sons and daughters never came into god's heart, and god is good and loving, why the teaching of a burning hell-fire as eternal punishment for most of mankind who have no idea about this or the so-called way out of this hell?

This is sort of an oxymoron. First you'd have to believe in god. If that's the god of the bible then that guy would definitly create a Hell. But if you found a good god somewhere (don't bother looking) I doubt that god would create a hell.

I wanted to do this to my sister inlaws exboss. But I have to vote for ass kicking. Much more realistic. And you don't have to wait for the voodoo doll to decide when where etc.

EM, If she killed him then aren't you against that too? Did they have an all male jury or something? Most women have always known that abuse is a reason for murder, right? But again she was guilty, right? So what type of change would there be in her sentence that would have her alive today..life in prison doesn't sound like life at all.

The locking of threads.
by seven006 init seems like there is a little fire starting to burn here on the subject of locking threads.
iv been on this board a long time and on average have only seen about one out of every 200 threads locked.
those who have their threads locked take it very personal, that's understandable.

If someone doesn't agree with me I figure they have no idea what they're talking about. So someday I hope to be a moderator j/k
If someone disagrees with me I want to know. Maybe it's a female thing but I must have an answer Then as the facts are presented I will better
judgeconsider the poser and the posed.IMO this is a good place w/ thinking people who don't always agree... but we have this incredible understanding of what it's like to be controlled and then figure it out and then wonder how it all happened. It's like we're the survivors and everyone else died --- we want answers to our continued saddness. And it's like some terrific therapy to have our opinions deemed worthy of debate.

"Cognitive Dissonance Revisited" or "Old Habits Die Hard" - Friendly Advice
by Utopian Reformist inmany of us were once fervent supporters and active members of the wtbs through our local congregations.
when confronted with controversial information while under the influence of the organization, many of us were instantly defensive, dismissive, skeptical and fearful.
we chose to continue believing the leadership knew better than we did and had our best interests at heart, despite any logic, or lack of reason.

ummmm... I don't recall reading this is our country right or wrong or our gov't has our best interests at heart... I know those aren't exact quotes but I am concerned that you somehow feel that by leaving the borg everyone would start hating America. If you've lived in other countries then you know that people WANT to come to America. I'm all for opening our borders but cutting social services.
Surely everyone questions decisions made by the gov't. I wouldn't say I actually trust the gov't. Even some of those quotes --- especially Jefferson (the misogynist). Both Jefferson and Madison believed that blacks were sub-human. And rather than an amalgamation they wanted to ship freed slaves off to some other country. So I don't care much for their quotes which were made to get a reaction, a public reaction. No one wants to give up freedoms, no one. But many folks are unable to see what an alternative might be.
After the Sept.11 attack on America and the murder of thousands of people many folks were/are justifyably frightened. So to some giving up some freedoms seem necessary. I don't agree. But that doesn't mean I disagree w/the gov't on everything. Fortunately, I am free to disagree. I vote. I talk about new legislation even if just at the coffee shop with a few aquiantances. There was a time when people enjoyed the give and take of argument.

GB on a Self Self-Destruct Course
by frankiespeakin inthe governing body continues to surround itself with yes-men.

Yes the internet has opened the eyes of many a dub. However, that doesn't mean much to the real estate rich WTS. I imagine that eventually they'll become more mormon-like. Plenty of people leave the mormons but Salt Lake city seems to be doing fine and dandy. Just like Brooklyn and Patterson will also do fine. They'll build a hospital up there and eventually some JW schools . Yeah They won't collapse, just evolve. These old GB's will die and younger non-annointed will take over the business. It'll always be the same as long as people feel the need for religion.
