i just remember a few years back reflecting on the daunting prospect of doing it my whole life if the end didn't come - "sooner rather than later".

The apostles carried on the ministry the way they were taught from Jesus unless I'm missing something.

Well stated as always NC. This life is it, make it count!
Just think of what could be accomplished if all the billions people stopped saying "well it's in God's hands", "he'll fix it in the future" and worrying about the afterlife (coming back as cockroach or eternal damnation etc.); and actually use the time they would otherwise spend on perfunctory religions rotes on something really positive, things would most certainly be better IMHO.
The more you think about it the more you can see that religion is a crutch.
this is one that i've been struggling with since i started hanging out here.
when you get on a thread and quote a scripture with a comment to make a point, the believers who have never been jw's often knee jerk reaction jump all over it, and in essensce say that you cannot understand the passage because you are not a believer like them.. it's as if they are saying what is written and what you have learned about certain passages are automatically wrong just because you were taught from a jw perspective, or that you lack basic reading comprehension.
i agree many of the jw teachings are off, but i can certainly respect more of their interpretations of scriptures than i can of other christian denominations.

Just to be clear i'm not saying that I do believe this at all. I'm just saying that this argument to explain the bible is much more rational than arguments presented by non JW Christians. I have thought of the fallacies like more people being born and God expecting us to preach to them, it's one of the reason I'm leaving.
Having given these sorts of things a great deal of thought, I have concluded that I cannot say for a certainty that there isn't a designer (agnostic position mostly). But I have seen enough evidence to cause me to conclude, that all religious holy books are garbage when really analysed. And that if a designer does exist, he obviously doesn't care what goes on here; so why should anyone care what it thinks, and waste our time following the fantasies of long dead lunatics? Rather, it's high time for everyone to be freed of the bondages of religion, and live a purposeful life that is not in fear of a celestial dictator, who has not even proven he is really there or that he cares.

i was driving home the other evening pondering the past couple of turbulant years for me and my family.
i reflected back on my appointment as a ministerial servant and my attitude, beliefs and thinking at the time.
i thought about the subsequent misery that being a servant brings once the the glow wears off and people stop "commending you on your fine spiritual progress.
It's like you think they would vet those questions out a few weeks before announcing it. It's like they think let's tell this brothers at the eleventh hour so they are pressured to say yes; what a very underhanded strong arm tactic. It's like they don't even give you dignity of making the choice for yourself. Two times before I was appointed the question was posed to me right before meeting (mind you while my mind was elsewhere worrying about stage mikes or sound)!
"Is there anything that prevents you from serving as an MS?", a total disregard for if YOU really want to be one, but hey God loves a cheerful giver right?

All Christians have this knowing of God's esxstence. If they don't, they may very well not be Born Again.

As far as the Spirit's magic quality goes, I should've known something was up years earlier when they asked - prior to announcing my MS appointment - if there was any reason I shouldn't be a servant. What an odd question at an awkward time. "uhhhh, nooo?" Wouldn't Holy Spirit know if I wasn't qualified? Ridiculous.

What I have claimed is that some of what is presented as science is not true, is biased, and susceptable to the influence of those doing the funding.
Even science at it's worst is infinitely better than the arrogant assumptions based on zero evidence that religion offers. I think this is so important given the demnands of time and energy that religion demands, that could be better spent on something useful. Things of Science that are false are pretty quickly vetted and refined; a key difference. Religion is dogma and has little room for skepticism.
My thoughts on it is that if God sees all of the conflicting ideas about him and religions and chooses not to reveal himself than he doesn't deserve our time and energy in this scientific age.
