Yes, they wanted me to pioneer and go to bethel but I wanted to be a chemical engineer, I got accepted at a good university, something that should make parents proud right? Yea, not so much with JW parents (the worst on the planet)! I got no help from them, and to top it off my dad was charging me 330 dollars in monthly rent even though the house was so small and pitiful that I had to sleep on the living room couch. It got so difficult I had to drop out and get a job. The good news though is that I'm no longer a JW i'm now going back to college working on my associates, but it's difficult juggling that and fulltime work.

Did your parents force spiritual goals on you?
by Comatose ini was thinking today about my childhood.
i knew from a young age that the proper response to a question about what i wanted to be when i grew up was pioneering, missionary, bethel, or c.o.
i was taught from childhood not to want to be a fireman or astronaut.

Now it's the Annual Meeting!
by stillin inas if circuit assemblies, district conventions, meetings, watchtower studies, special assembly days and bible studies weren't enough, now it's this!
aaa argh!.

Do you still go to meetings? If so man I feel ya, what a huge burden it all is. I remember several years back we had district convention, circuit or SAD(I forget which) and CO visit all in one month. I seriously contemplated shooting myself near the end of all that. It sure is wonderful to not have to endure any of that anymore, I highly recommend leaving if you can.

How do believers defend a god who is going to murder billions and pin it on them?
by tootired2care inat that time those slain by the lord will be everywherefrom one end of the earth to the other.
they will not be mourned or gathered up or buried, but will be like dung lying on the ground.

Ezekiel is saying that the Hebrews had a duty to warn their fellow Jews, and if they DIDN'T warn the sinner, God would hold the one(s) who knew of the sins but didn't tell the sinner to "knock it off!" accountable for the sinner's death. The Jews had a sense of communal/corporate responsibility for sins, were even entire TOWNS were wiped out on the basis of the sins of the individuals (eg Sodom). Heck, the threat was that the sins of the few would lead to the ENTIRE NATION being "vomited out of the Promised Land" if they didn't render proper justice. Anyone who remembers the teacher holding the ENTIRE CLASS accountable for the misdeeds of the few by eg cancelling a field trip, can understand the concept.
That is a good point about the shared responsibility, the individual is more of modern concept I get that. Still are you contending that the god of the jews came to eventually view things differently from the perspective of ladening men with blood guilt for his planned genocides?

First of all thank you for your comments, they do make a discussion more stimulating.
When he made the comments about being free of the blood of all men he was not referring to Stephen (was he?) he was referring to completing his assignment. So it still doesn’t change the fact that those early christians believed that god was going to hold them accountable for his actions.
Not warning someone if you are told to warn them about danger or possible death... makes you somewhat accountable even by 'human' standards.
The thing is even man’s legal system as imperfect as it is would not hold you accountable for a murder that another is going to commit. The best analogy is that high circuit court judge goes out and kills someone and charges you with his crime? This is no god of love at all.
Those who do not know Him, but are known BY Him, are also invited into the kingdom. (not as kings and priests, but as subjects of the kingdom) The sheep and the goats parable shows this. (matt 25:31-46)
So how do you suppose people like these are invited?
all the dead are called out of the graves... and there are those among them whose names are written in the lamb's book of life - but these cannot be 'Christians', because all Christians were given the first resurrection - not just those who call themselves christians, but who ARE christians by having been annointed with holy spirit/baptized by fire.
TEC, this is only because they paid their debt by dying. This doesn’t contradict the point in 2 Thess at all, or make god any less of murderer or deranged for pinning it upon other humans.

Dinosaur Soft Tissue, Blood, & DNA Catalog of Peer Reviewed Papers
by Perry inthe world's most comprehensive catalog of peer-reviewed journal papers documenting the existence of dinosaur soft tissue, blood cells and dna is here.
can't we all just agree to finally give a 150 year old theory a nice funeral?
there is no way this stuff lasts hundreds of millions of years!.

@Metaron - However, we're still talking about dinosaurs in the context of theism and for me, that just doesn't work.
This is exactly how I feel too, g iven that the bible makes zero commentary about the dinosaurs or past extinction events on earth, it seems paradoxical to try and use dinosaur remains to prove the veracity of the bibles creation timeline.

The biggest logical problem with god "fine tuning" any of his creations (aka intervention) is that it implies that it wasn't made perfect to begin with. If it wasn't made perfect to begin with than god is not perfect nor is he almighty.

At that time those slain by the Lord will be everywhere—from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered up or buried, but will be like dung lying on the ground. - Jerimiah 25:33
...when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 2 Thess 1:7-8
When I say to a wicked person, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. - Ezekiel 3:18
For those that still believe the bible, the scriptures quoted above clearly show that the bible promises a mass murder of billions and yet the god of the bible is going to pin it on those that try to follow him. This thinking apparentely still existed after Jesus 'great sacrafice' because Paul stated that he was free of the blood of men because he did nothing but preach in his works based faith.
So in essense by being a believer you are going to get blamed for gods campaign of mass murder. I think of the many lands that don't have any clue about Christianity, who "do not know [your] god" are going to be destroyed according to these texts. Not being a believer myself anymore I find these teachings vile and repulsive now.
How do believers still reconcile this in 2013?
Moreover, how is it even possible to live a peaceful and happy existence with such a great cloud of guilt constantly hanging overhead?

How long since you have prayed?

I have and still do pray in the congregation, and I don't like it one bit!
LOL...the last few months that I was in I would ditch meeting on the nights I was scheduled to pray. Knowing the BS of it all and still having to pray at meeting is torture. What's worse having to prepare an uber spiritual SM part with interviews, or praying?

I totally agree with you, it was a complete waste in my view too. It's been almost two years for me and I don't miss it one bit, especially those mealtime prayers. Those were so annoying after a tiresome and stressful day. After 20 years of praying it gets rather difficult to keep it fresh! I mean really how many new and interesting things are there to pray about? It all just sounds so dumb too. It's been nice not having to stress about any of that anymore.
