Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?
by dozy ini was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.
all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.
my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

Our latest "Gee it's great not to be a JW" moment. Share yours!
by Open mind inrecently my son had a minor injury that required a trip to the emergency room.
the admitting nurse asked us a ton of questions and then this:.
nurse: do you have a religion?.

Being judgmental and being judged,,,also being told I would never grow up in this system and now my kids are grown up and I'm 48,,I feel like I missed out on alot of things and it makes me mad,,,I've done alot of soul searching the last year about these things and more,,,,, funny little story,,last week I was helping my son deliver papers for his paper route,,and I was actually having anxiety going door to door hanging the papers on the door knobbs, after a few minutes I figured out it was from going out in service for all those years,,,that was the worst thing for me about being a Witness

Please can we all have a go at describing and celebrating our different NEW IDENTITIES, versus our OLD WBTS IDENTITY?
by Fernando inat one time most of us here identified as jws who follow the wbts gb/fds who claim to follow the bible etc.
some of us are journeying to a new identity, others may feel they already have a new identity.. although we likely have gone in many different directions, we share a common past which only ex-members can really understand and explain.
please could we each respectfully share and celebrate our unique perspectives of where we have come from, and where we each are now at on this journey?.

Old: never doing enough, always feeling guilty and depressed
New: mind is free and open to new things,,life has more purpose and quaility

Do You Agree That Being A JW=Never Growing To Your Full Potential?
by minimus insoooo many witnesses that i knew of had great potential to be somebody, to do something in their lives and instead, they simply existed in a way of life that never really ever gave them back anything in return.
so sad, when you think of the waste!.

Give us your vote on the Watch Tower's approach to domestic abuse!!
by cedars inas you may be aware, the feb 15th watchtower features an experience depicting a 'fairytale' scenario of a violent husband beating his wife, and then mending his ways once she starts to apply bible principles.
to my knowledge, this is the nineteenth experience of its kind to be published since 1958, and it betrays a disturbing track record of negligence on the part of the watch tower society in failing to properly and consistently deal with such a sensitive and life-or-death issue, which effects untold thousands of women.. the experience, page 29, paragraph 12, reads as follows:.
selma recalls a lesson she learned from the witness who studied with her.

Dear Cedars , I voted and tried to post a comment but couldn't so I will put it on here,,,I want to thank you for your work on this subject :
Comments like these combined with being raised in the truth and the elders not taking much action about these complaints (even blaming me for the violence and emotional abuse),,kept me in a 20 yr. abuse cycle,,which profoundly effected my oldest child,,it shows a lack of education on this subject and a lack of love for sister's to even suggest to remain in this type of situation,,I'm not the only one I know several other sister's that I have endured this situation,,,,in fact I used to always worry about stumbling people in the truth,,well I find this line of thinking very stumbling,,,,,this along with the mind set you are not free to marry another after profound abuse (only adultry)and if you do you will be disfellowshipped ,,is the reason why I am currently inactive and have no plans to return

HOW MANY BORN-INS or almost born-ins, WOULD HAVE BECOME A JW IF SOMEONE CALLED AT THEIR DOOR?
by PaintedToeNail ini know i would have never, ever been interested if someone would have come to my door as a jw.
i guess i really don't feel like i've ever had a real spiritual side to me.
the 'truth' would have never interested me, nor would i have ever accepted a bible study with anyone who came looking for a sheeple.

My last meeting was about a year ago,,I had been fading for a couple years prior, but my mom wanted me to come to the special talk from the CO,,so I was thinking maybe I would hear something special or new,,but NO,,same old thing,,a large part of the talk was about not going to college, and I started feeling angry when I heard that old song and dance again,,,all the friends were nice to me after the meeting,,but I totally lost my desire to go anymore after that

My mother started studying when I was 4 and was baptized soon after, my father soon followed and gave up a the career of his dreams for the Truth,,,anyway I had no choice in going to meetings and participating in Theocratic School and service,,the one thing I totally refused to do and my mother did respect is that I refused to go out door to door in the neighborhoods around my school,,how freaking imbarressing is that!! my mom thought she was doing the right thing by guilting me into it,,she wanted me and still does to have everlasting life,,after all armagedeon is right around the corner,,they felt they were doing the right thing and I totally respect that,,,I just wish at this point in the game we just could of been the normal American family,,with holidays and such,,we missed out on alot of good family times...
