I post here because of finding so many people who have been through the same experience and have an understanding of what it's like. There's a lot of camaraderie.
I also love to read newsy, perceptive posts by so many and help me to never fall into the same trap again.

I'm reading Paine's book too. He was pretty gutsy wasn't he? His points are very reasonable. I especially remember one when he said that if Thomas needed to have proof and put his hand in the wound, Paine felt he had that right too. If it's not forthcoming, he doesn't believe. How can anyone argue with that?

i have been trying to make points with some in my congregation by dropping neutral hints, such as: did you know since 1985 we (they) do not baptize in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit but we have taken holy spirit out of the process and placed the spirit directed organization into the picture?.
i told several on their way to the convention to look for this as well as the emphasis in the drama on loyalty to the organization.
i havent been to the convention this year but may have to persevere through one more because two folks came back telling me they did not hear any emphasis on organization.

the other day someone made a reference to "mountainous" proof of the existence of an historical jesus.. refusing to suffer fools gladly, the poster was challenged to produce this "mountain" and i haven't heard a peep of it - not that i'm surprised.
a bb friend with whom i carry on a regular private correspondence reminded me of this challenge, and i was wondering if the "mountain" or even a hillock is ever going to be forthcoming?

Oh, oh! Another thing: I have done quite a bit of geneaology research. It's amazing the information you can dig up from 200 years ago about basically insignificant farmers (in my lineage at least!). Now, if this Jesus actually did all that's purported, why is there such a deafening silence from his contemporaries--writers, historians, etc.?
Of course, to many reasoning persons, the answer is obvious.
