I just keep wondering why (mostly atheists) keep thinking that believers need to justify anything that God does. Counting myself as a believer in God, and in the scriptures, I never even ask myself these questions.

Oh we know... this is why you believe in a fairy tale; because you don't ask yourself any questions.

Yes, but instead of making up your own version of the story, why not address what the bible really says? The bible says that Jehoober hardened the heart of the pharaoh. He CAUSED the pharaoh not to let them go, only to punish him after. Yes, that's pretty pathetic, but now you're going to sit there and embelish the story your way, so it sounds better. That's just as pathetic.

Well folks, this is good news indeed. It seems that not only 7 million people will survive the big A. Since about 25% of the world's population is under 15 years old, as they are children they should not be accountable. This means that at least 1.75 Billion people will also survive.

Oh what joy it must be to have 1.75 billion children dropped on your lap to take care of. The regional building teams will be working non stop building day care centers. This means that each JW will need to adopt 2.5 children. If the typical JW family is made of 3 people, then each family will need to adopt 7 additional children. Oh what joy. As the supermarkets become empty of food left by worldy people, JW families will be hard at work planting potatoes and onions in their backyards. What joyfull times..

i had originally thought that making the rules clear about what was and wasn't going to be allowed when discussing the michael brown verdict that we'd be able to avoid some of the unpleasantness that surrounded the subsequent trayvon martin trial discussions.. michael brown verdict discussion policy.

i had hoped that once the evidence came out there would not be as many people promoting opinions that contradicted it.

So, I've decided the new rule will be: Whatever the courts have decided.

If the justice system decides someone is innocent then you cannot come on here and claim that they are guilty.
If the justice system decides someone is guilty then you cannot come on here and claim that they are innocent.

To be fair, that doesn't seem all democratic. It just so happen that i agree with the courts in this case, but denying the ability to disagree with the court, doesn't see all that great. Perhaps simply making sure people aren't offensive would be a better alternative.

You think that logic and evidence will win this argument? You can present any logic, and evidence along with faults in the Genesis account, and it will still not be enough for the typical fairy tale believer.

Any person that believes that God made millions of animals fly over the ocean to reach the middle east in order to be packed in a wooden box with a handful of humans for a few years, will not respond to common sense.

As far as they are concerned, even if it's logical that sunlight reached the earth from the very beginning, they will say that God had magic curtains around the earth to keep it dark. Why? Because there is a book that says so, that's why.

An authority is the same as a precendent, so in essense there is a new principle or rule (precedent probably from another similar case) which can be used in this case, and was not available at the time of briefing ( a written explanation of the case by a stakeholder)

Is your family paying for your college? Your room? Consider your mike work to be a true job, and you are using your family for tuition, room, & board for 4 years.

Exactly!. This is the key point. What will happen if you walk out? If you have no dependencies on stopping, then stop. If your family is paying for everything and you think they would punish you, maybe be smart about it. Tell them you are exhausted and it's affecting your health and need to cut back on responsabilities until you finish school. Good chance they will understand

(http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/287545/1/who-is-copying-who-jws-or-mormons) i like to see wt friendly posts on here as some of the wt bashing displays the same logical fallacies as levelled against the wts and it's followers so it's good to consider reasoned debate.. on the one hand i think itkh makes a fair point if you compare the worldwide success of mormons v jws but there is an overall context to the preaching work that is completely ignored by those fully "in" and has been a major factor in my move from being an active witness to one on the cusp of getting out.

from a statistical point of view there are great headline numbers presented by the wts but if you put them in the context of the number of witnesses, conversation ratios, ratio of new witnesses to birth rates, numbers that must be leaving, growth differentials across the globe, penetration in muslim nations and so on then these numbers become meaningless.

I am in my car waiting for about 15 minutes and they have only gotten out of the car once to give a tract to a man who got off his bike to tie his shoe. The parking lot is bustling with activity. Yes, my thoughts exactly, REAL PRODUCTIVE!

Exactly. I see it all the time too. I sometimes take the bus to go home and there is usually a group of sisters, probably pioneers, who instead of walking/talking with people where they mostly congregate, choose to walk inside a small park in front of the train and bus station. If someone happens to walk by them they will offer litera-trash (not even always). Meanwhile there are hundreds of people walking in the sidewalk next to the station.

Urgent? Doesn't seem so.

Door to door probably made sense 100 years ago, when it was a common method to sell stuff. Today it's simply a joke. Of course, it doesn't matter because it costs the WT nothing, and at the end of the day the members are the ones who pay for litera-trash anyway, so who cares if they don't talk to anybody.

Instead of throwing it out I annotated it in the margins and wrote JWFacts.com inside the front cover.

Much better idea than throwing it away.

for one thing, i cant get past genesis, but no matter.. when god told adam and eve if you eat from the tree youll die.

so why did he not simple let them die and not allow the offspring to?.

It's interesting to see how completely stupid the whole story sounds when you begin to read about it in these comments. When you are believer, you don't even realize how idiotic the whole Adam and Eve thing is, you just sorta believe in it, because you are supposed to.

Here is how it should have been:

- God creates Adam and Eve

- God tells Adam and Eve: " Hey guys, eat whatever you want. I thought about telling you not to eat from this one tree here, but that would be totally stupid. There is no reason for that, so eat what you want, and then go find some clothes, for crying out loud"

- Serpent comes and asks Adam " Is it true that God has told you not to eat from this one tree here?"

- Adam: "Nope. He told us to eat whatever we want"

- Serpent : "Shit, that fuc*d up my plan"

- God realizes Serpent (Satan) is bad and kills it.

- God tells Adam and Eve : "Well now there is no Satan, so you have no excuse to be bad. Fill the earth and live here forever, and if you become bad, i'll just kill you like the Serpent"

End of story. So simple. I should be God.

my neighbor told me she had been talking about me recently.

"i was saying to carrie in the office i just don't see how anyone can deny the existence of a higher power.

she needed some q-tips, and found a box of them on the free table by the office.

Ask her to pray for something like winning the lottery.....

Why even go that far? Tell her to throw that box away and pray to God to make another one appear at her desk. I'm sure it should be easy enough.
