In this modern information age, don't JWs browse the Internet for information at all?

i am just curious, there are tonnes of information about the wt and the stories of its hypocrisies in the internet.

are they aware of all these?

or they just obediently go to the www.watchtower.org only, and never feel curious enough to click on other link that mentions about jw, wt etc.....

The WT are fighting a losing battle against the Internet, whatever rubbish they talk about it is ignored by the younger ones who have grown up with it.

The younger ones know the Net has crap on it, and porn and whatever, they also know it as a tool they cannot do without, and will not do without.

Many of them are quite sanguine about ignoring the WT unless they are caught out, for all their lives they have had to listen to warnings that their own experience tells them are not true. The WT can no longer just write BS in its mag/rags and all 7mill. say "Oooh what wonderful counsel !"

The WT are an anachronism in the 21st century, they belong firmly in the 19th.

"Many will rove about ........." (Daniel) rove about the Internet and find this site !

There you are ! One Bible prophecy that came true !

How well known is JEHOVAH?

for anyone that has not been to www.ted.com than i strongly recommend it.

there is the most amazing range of information regarding science, religion, medicine and technology, and provides a very positive view of what the world will be like in the future.. one talk i just watched was http://www.ted.com/talks/what_we_learned_from_5_million_books.html, which discusses a new ability from goole at http://books.google.com/ngrams to search on the change in how regularly words appear in book.

i thought an interesting comparison would be whether the word jehovah or yahweh is more common.

I think the Yahweh usage will continue to be in the ascendant, as it is mainly academics who will use a name for god,and they are not likely to use Jehovah and perhaps give the impression that they know as little about the subject as do JW's

i have never in my life wished my mother a happy birthday.

largely because i know she would find it offensive.

and raised in that poisonous environment, i to this day loathe other people knowing when it is my birthday and feel strange when if they do, or even family do wish me a happy birthday.

Strange how obviously twisted the cult thinking is, and yet we could not see it !

An elderly sister I know went to a thing for old people in the locality around the end of November, tea and biscuits and a chat. The local school has tried to get the kids to interact with the elderly, so some children were there, and as Christmas was not that far off, they dressed as Elves and asked the old people what they would like for Christmas etc.

This old sister took this as a personal affront to her ! "Fancy making me sit there with Christamas elves !" she simply could not see that it was done out of kindness, and that nobody knew of her weird beliefs anyway.

The W.T religion is a miserable one isn't it ?

Was it a prophecy in the first place ? The words are put in to the mouth of Jesus by the Gospel writers writing at the end of the 1st Century, they simply looked at how the cult of Jesus had spread, throughout the known earth by then, and put the "prophecy" in.

This is the nature of nearly all seeming "prophecies" in the Bible.

Looking at it as a believing JW I would probably swallow their B.S and believe it to be fulfilled. The reality is very different as the posts above show, and on a daily basis it gets more and more difficult for them to preach to individuals, as more are born.

With the contraction of the WT, even simply counting nations as having been preached to because a JW missionary turned up there once , burped and farted, and then left, it is still not fulfilled I'm afraid.

The end of the WT will come before Armageddon. (The fictional battle in Magic Mushroom John's "Revelation")

My conversations with a Muslim at work last month

was working last month with a guy of algerian dissent who had lived in london for many years, who turned out to be hard core in his islamic beliefs , needing to pray a certain amount of times a day, wanting to skive off work early each night to pray and took a 2 and a half hour lunch break one friday so he could find a mosque ffs!

anyway we got talking about our belief system's ( i knew more about islam/the prophet/quran) then he did, but it turned out that he said he had offered me the light that muslims are supposed to give non believers, and if they reject the message then they are condemned to hell!

i spoke about my agnostic/deist belief and how much his message compared similarly with that of fire and brimstone style of christianity, he claimed that the quran amalgamated many of the ancient beliefs of judaism/christianity/buddhism etc and were penned so as to give mankind the message from the final prophet mohammad who had received these revelations through an angel(all bullshit of course) i went on to speak about the many flaws found in the bible notably the impossibility of the flood , the contradictions of the creation, right down to the possible evidence that jesus christ may never have even existed!

I too have had pleasant times spent in discussion with Muslim people, at the time I was an active JW, but I simply listened to their point of view, although to my now shame, I did foist a booklet of the WT's on one of them the one designed supposedly for followers of Islam.

I never found out what he thought of it, which is a good thing, he was a lecturer in Political Science and must have thought it laughable !

I bet you poiltely refrained, Terry, from pointing out that the provenance of the Koran is as bad as that of the Bible's non-existent provenance.

The context of Luke 18 is interesting, verse 9 shows that Jesus posed his question about finding the faith because some of the people he was talking to were trusting in their own righteousness, the opposite of people who were in the faith.

was away from my normal computer and so my two posts to start the first thread didn't show.. however, thanks to all who picked up the topic and commented shadesofgrey, sizemik, lars, designs, otwo, jwfacts.

since i never commented on my own thread, i thought i should and thank everyone.. adam's claimed date of creation of c. 4000 bc was mentioned, however, the bible would have everyone coming from noah at c. 2650 bc.

american civilizations are said to date prior to the usual biblical date of the flood.

Well done Flat_Accent, you beat me to it, apologists love to talk of the shortcomings of carbon 14 dating, and ignore the firm evidence given by other methods.

As to the " water conopy" no such thing could have existed after land based life began on Earth, for a variety of reasons, one being the air pressure below the canopy.

There is no evidence one ever existed as far as I know, but it certainly is just another element of the story of Noah's Ark that shows it to be total fiction.

There is a case, ongoing if I remember correctly, in the U.K, where a minister in an Anglican church is suing the church, and apparently the old defense that he doesn't work for the church but for god, so is not an emplyee of the church, has been thrown out.

Apparently the law here on who is an employee depends on who gives instructions and who gives authority to the priest, why is he recognised as a minister ?

If it is because the church gives him the instructions on carrying out his duties and the authority recognised by the community is vested in him by the church, then, in law he is an emplyee of the church with all the rights of an emplyee under UK and European Law.

This could have ramifications going right down through the WT here in the U.K , even Elders are not considered appointed until the O.K comes back from London H.Q and their instructions definately come from there, so a disgruntelled Elder could feasibly sue in certain circumstances. (Not if the dispute is over doctrinal matters of course)

I bet the WT are watching the case with interest, they are shedding Bethel workers and putting old DO's and CO's etc out to grass, there could be a problem for them.

Not quite the same as the above U.S case, but interesting.
