The writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls were not aware of Jesus of Nazareth of course, and they looked for two messiahs, so two names is good !

Jesus Was but not IS Michael!
by free thought into honor the son is to honor the father.. i am a practicing jw who i believe is of the heavenly calling.
this post is not to criticize wts but to open honest discussion among mature followers of christ.. there has been much controversy around the wts doctrine regarding the arch angel michael.
as many are aware, wts believe that jesus in his pre-human existence was michael , gods first born.

Someone has a list of scholars who believe in Jesus as a real person in history?
by TJ Curioso inwhen we say that most scholars believe in jesus as a real person, ask for real credentials.
who are these?.
someone has a list of those?.

I think most scholars in the appropriate fields err on the side of Jesus being an historical figure. That does not mean it is easy to get to the Historical Jesus.
Just as there may well have been a "Robin Hood" , the myth and legend clouds the historical figure.
With Jesus , we have a similar problem, and a similar quantity of myth and legend. The Gospels and other writings may well contain some words that he actually spoke, and some deeds that he actually performed, but we cannot know which is which.
The search for the Historical Jesus will be one that never ends I guess.

"Inspiration" usually comes in a bottle, worked for Rutherford.
I think the WT's argument for identifying Jesus with Michael is pretty thin.
1) The scrip. in Daniel says he is one of the chief angels, not the chief (the word archangel does not appear in the O.T)
2) They make the claim that "Arch" means only one, but the prefix is used in the scrip. that mentions "principalities ", plural.
3) The scrip. in Thessalonians says Jesus voice is like an Archangels.
Another case of the WT not reading the Bible ?

When were Judge Rutherford's books discontinued by The Watchtower?
by VM44 injudge rutherford wrote a good number of books and booklets that were published a distributed by the watchtower from about 1919 to 1942.. the man died in 1942.. does anyone when the watchtower stopped printing and distributing rutherford's books?.
i have a hunch that soon after knorr took charge of the watchtower, rutherford's books were immediately replaced by books authored by anonymous, corporate wt authors.. the 1942 children book, called "the lord's provided instrument", probably wasn't distributed for more than a year after it was released!.
anyone know exactly when rutherford's books were dropped by the wt?.

I am too young to remember, (phew!) but I think I was told they stopped his books when the green "Let God be True" book came out. They then had a rapid bit of Noo LIte, I don't know what, and a cacky pooey brown coloured, revised, "Let God be True" was brought out.
Early fifties ?

Encyclopedia Britannica to stop printing
by Bella15 innew york (cnnmoney) -- after 244 years, encyclopedia britannica will cease production of its iconic multi-volume book sets.. britannica usually prints a new set of the tomes every two years, but 2010's 32-volume set will be its last.
instead, the company will focus solely on its digital encyclopedia and education tools.. the news is sure to sadden champions of the printed word, but britannica president jorge cauz said the move is a natural part of his company's evolution.. "everyone will want to call this the end of an era, and i understand that," cauz says.
"but there's no sad moment for us.

The problem with EB was that they did not really update the printed version, as I understand it, not properly in the last 50 years !
So it long ceased to be the authority that it used to be, it lost the respect it once had.
They had better do a good job of keeping the on-line version bang up to date, or people simply will ignore it.

"This Speech Is Shocking"
by BroMac in*** w06 7/15 p. 22 focus on the goodness of jehovahs organization ***.
this speech is shocking.
13 whereas some in the first century murmured against appointed servants, others were murmurers against jesus teachings.

What is the basis for the claim "the Creator progressively reveals the truth" ??
I know they take Prov4 v18 out of context and use that, which is just nonsense, I suppose Jesus words, that he had things to tell his disciples that they were not yet ready for ,could apply, but that is a stretch.
They claim their beliefs are from the Bible, so why should new stuff come by some mysterious means ,taliking to spirits is the only explanation, why now, and how would they justify that method ?
I have read that they say the GB contemplates scripture and then Noo Lite comes to them, but I could do that, and my track record of exegesis is much better than the GB's, I have not had to change any of my understanding of scripture that I achieved on my own, so who is the Holy Spirit guiding here ? it looks as though it is me, a non-believer !
The whole "light gets brighter" thing is a great big pile of steaming POO !
Again they usurp the place of Jesus, they are claiming that they, the GB, have "sayings of everlasting life", what blasphemy !

Elihu Books Website, Why Is Web Traffic So Limited?
by Bubblegum Apotheosis ini checked out elihu books, the website looks decent and the writer does his due diligence.
the next step was to look at the "message boards" which appeared to have virtually no traffic.
why is elihu a virtual ghostown, with little webtraffic, (i looked at the postboard counts)?

A good summation Slim, I feel a small debt of gratitude to Greg, it was his site I found by some sort of link when I first started investigating JW's and the 1914 doctrine.
It was heartening to find another JW who had come to exactly the same conclusion as me, almost word for word he put down my thoughts, that you can dabate 607/587 ad nauseum. and it really doesn't matter, as there is no 2520days or years IN THE BIBLE ! It just ain't there.
I did not agree with his support for various bits of JW doctrine after a while, and so I stopped reading on his site, apart from dropping back in once in a while.
His site linked me to here at the time, for that I shall be ever greatful.

Still Can't Figure Out Exactly How Rutherford Took Control of the Society
by cognac ini know he somehow tricked his way in.
i thought him and russell had some sort of falling out???
what the heck happened??
-
Phizzy
I would love to see verified proof of the way he did it in those days after Russell died, I think that would be proof enough for an honest JW to see that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit would have nothing to do with the power hungry bully Rutherford.

are jw the most dispised religion by the public?
by mP ini remember going to a new school, and before i said anything there were a few kids poking fun at jehovah.
jehovah this and that .
at no stage did i ever hear anyone mention any other god or religion in conversation or playground banter.

Here in the U.K people generally really do not like the Jw's, they like Muslims less. It is a shame that the bad press generated by extremist Muslims reflects on all members of the religion, and the public lump them all together.
Now the JW's deserve to be lumped all together, as they are so united, goose-stepping together, they are all extremists.
Only joking, I think the old adage "He who generalise generally lies" applies here. But JW's are not popular.
I think the informed public despise any religion or ideology that causes harm.

Is there ANY JW belief/doctrine that has remained the same from start to now?
by journey-on ini was trying to think of one teaching or doctrine that has remained consistent from the society's inception to now, and couldn't.
.
can you give me one?.

A more important time frame to look at is surrounding 1918/9.
What doctrine unique to them were they teaching then that remains ,unchanged, today ?
There must be at least one for Jesus to inspect and approve them, and then appoint them over his belongings .
What is that doctrine ?
So you do not spend your valuable time on it, I will tell you the answer,............ there isn't one !
