" It seems like another lifetime ago that I have left behind."
Me too Punky ! It is also for me somewhat like looking at what happened to another guy , younger than me, in another Country !
I guess that means you, me, and others who feel like that are now Ex-XJW's ! We really have moved on !
All the best to you Buddy, are you still playing in a Band ?

Examples of Watchtower flawed interpretation of Bible passages?
by Vanderhoven7 inasking jehovah’s witnesses to interpret specific passages is a great way to demonstrate their interpretive abuse.

The J.W Org. approach to understanding and explaining Scripture is just 100% WRONG !
So early on after leaving I adopted the default position that any J.W explanation was wrong, that position has served me well !
They approach Scripture in totally the wrong way, by interpreting nearly everything as being literal, when many genres are to be found in the Bible, and few are meant by the writer to be taken as literal truth !
They also commit the Cardinal Sin, of employing Eisegesis to nearly every Scripture, in other words, they read in to scripture what is NOT there !
The correct way to understand any Text, especially Ancient ones, is to use proper Exegesis and Hermeneutics. The correct use ot those is to understand the milieu of the Writer's time and place, and what the theology or Christology of the time and the Writer himself was. Added to that of course an understanding of how words were used by the said Writer is needed.
The aim is to understand what the Writer meant by his words, in depth, and what the readers of his day would have understood them to mean.
To add to that, and to twist the words and meaning is an Insult to Scripture.

I am glad you are moving on joe, it is so good for your personal happiness and well-being !
If it means we will not have the pleasure of your company here so often, so be it. In fact the vast majority of people who were "Regulars" on here when I first joined about two decades ago, are no longer on here. It seems to be a part of many people's journey to becoming a normal , happy person, to lose interest in things J.W, and how healthy is that !
All the best to you in your future, may you eradicate all J.W influence upon your thinking and personality, so that you become almost like someone who has never been a J.W, of course we can never forget, but we can expunge every baleful influence the Org. had on us.
May you be forever Fulfilled and Happy !

Telling People You Used To Be A JW
by JW_Rogue insince i faded i've told a few people at work about having been raised in this organization but i found that most people don't really get what it is like at all.
they just focus on not celebrating holidays as if that is the worst thing about growing up jw.
i didn't explain much because it's too much for most people to handle.

I never liked admitting I was a J.W from a very early age, despite being in the org. until my late fifties. Looking back it was the first sign of a growing Cognitive Dissonance.
I still avoid it, why mention it ? Why ? Of course I recognise there are the odd occasions where it is useful and informative for a person to be informed.
But as many have pointed out on this Thread, the general Public just do not, and cannot, get what it meant to experience the harm done to you by such a weird upbringing and life.
What I find gratifying is that now when I do reveal it, people are amazed and say "What ? YOU ?? ", which means I guess that I have managed to expunge every J.W influence on my personality and character, at least I hope so !
We can never forget the experience, but we can get rid of every baleful influence the J.W org. had upon us, and become Normal, Happy People !

JWs in the news: "Must the Norwegian state protect the children of Jehovah’s Witnesses?" CNE news.
by Balaamsass2 inmust the norwegian state protect the children of jehovah’s witnesses?.
21-02-2025. northern europe.
evert van vlastuin, cne.news.

van Vlastuin in this article suggests the State is in this case trying to protect children from fear alone, it is not, the Human Rights of children, and adults of course, involve the Right to Family Life, and the Right to Freedom of Conscience, ( or belief ) both of these Human Rights are transgressed by the J.W 's Disfellowshipping and or Shunning Practices.
The case the Norwegian State has is to my mind Cast Iron.

When JW's say they are 'In the truth'...
by Ron.W. inwhere did this phrase 'in the truth' come from?.
it's been around as long as i can remember.
is it from the time they were promoting 'the truth shall make you free' book back in 1943?
-
Phizzy
"Present truth" has also been misused, as though Truth changes with time ! Truth is only that which has Irrefutable Evidence, and does NOT change !
To say they are "In the Truth", as J.W's do, is the ultimate Irony ! There is no Truth in their teachings !

Further Crisis looming for JW org re Safeguarding ?
by Phizzy inif you substitute j.w org for c of e this really hits home : (from bbc news site) :.
the church of england risks further crisis if it fails to adopt a sweeping new independent system to keep people safe, the former head of a national inquiry into child sexual abuse has said.
(prof. alexis jay).. "i think it's absolutely necessary because church safeguarding as it stands falls below the standards of secular organisations, and i do not think that can continue when it has also led to such serious weaknesses," she told the bbc..
-
Phizzy
I do hope it is accepted, and that the Independent Body is really completely that, as "self-policing" of any kind is not something that works.
Acceptance will lead the way for other responsible, caring, Organisations to follow, not that the J.W. org. will ever be in that category !

JW Lawyer in Norway uses "theocratic warfare" to conceal the org's controlling language!
by BoogerMan inin the org's vocabulary, the term "independent thinking" is applied pejoratively to any jw who thinks & reasons for themselves.
the org's lawyer knew exactly what he was doing in court when he voiced his carefully prepared words:.
"watchtowers lawyer anders ryssdal compares jehovah’s witnesses’ baptism to the norwegian state church’s confirmation of 15-year-olds, arguing that their baptism is no different.

From the avoidjw Article above :
" He dismissed the accusations of negative social control, coercion, and children’s rights violations as being based on “meager evidence from hostile witnesses.” He claimed the state’s actions were an unjust attack on the religious freedom of all 12,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses in Norway." (<Lies !)
" Ryssdal suggested that the personal biases of former members may have influenced their accounts. He employs a version of DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim, and Offender), a common manipulation tactic in which the victim is portrayed as the aggressor. "
" Ryssdal asserts that Jehovah’s Witnesses do not violate children’s rights and repeats that they do not engage in negative social control." ANOTHER Blatant Lie !

The Akedah
by peacefulpete inthe genesis 22 episode, often referred to as the akedah (aqueda) ie "the binding" is a topic worthy a masterclass in textual and theological development.
a comprehensive discussion regarding this development would involve volumes and still leave much to be uncertain.
in short, the internal contradictions the narrative offers as it appears in genesis have inspired millennia of interpretive expansions and elaborations.

Thanks for the Book recommendation P.P. I will get round to reading it in a while, but at present I am busy sorting out a trip to Ireland in a couple of weeks time, plus I am writing a Novel, and need to add a few Chapters before presenting basically half a Novel to my Mentor, a dear friend who I call my adopted Grandson, a Writer and Film Director, so his advice will be invaluable.
i hope his advice does not come down to "Give up the idea of Writing a Novel, and take up Tiddly-Winks !"
