My wife asked me that question when I first left, she was still supposedly a Jw, I said "As usual you are jumping the gun, first prove it is the truth, then I will worry about "what next"". (That sounds a bit smart ass, but she always crosses bridges before they are even built, so the "As usual" was true and fair)

She was unable to support the religion in any way, and therefore left as well.

We have found it was not the truth, in any way, and what came next was a journey to a wonderful place of freedom and spiritual fulfillment.

i don't want to spend time checking this claim from a jw, and whether it is true or not is, i think, of no significance to their claim of being the 'one true religion'.

I do not have any figures to give you, just apersonal experience. I visited Germany in the late sixties and met a lovely elderly JW who had been incarcerated by Hitlers regime in early 1934, just two months after his marriage. He was not released until 1945.

I do not know what camp or camps he was in, he didn't talk a lot about it. I admire his stand, he did not know if at any time he may have been executed, he never renounced his faith. If he had, perhaps they would have freed him.

Same for me Dinah, the Historical Jesus, as far as we can determine, was an O.K guy.

The Cult that grew up using his name, and the Mythos, from late in the 1st Century is a different thing from the teachings of the Nazarene. The "Christology" of Paul is another strand of the following that arose, the two combining loosely but splitting in to many sects straight away.

The Cult of Jesus was not something I see him planning deliberately, he was hijacked after his death for use by people with varying agendas.

just a curious question.... how many ex-jw's here have yet to perform a pledge of alliegance or sing the national anthem?

now that i think about it... after years of 'standing firm' and refusing to these things as a 'brainwashed babe' - even in my wiser years i haven't done them.. do you feel any reistance toward doing so?

are you proud of your country?

I have always felt like Talesin on the patriotism front. As to singing the Anthem, I live in the U.K and we have one of the worst in the world, turgid music and lyrics I really detest. Never mind God save the Queen, god save us from your followers.

I could never now sing it without a little bit of sick coming up in my mouth.

Donating blood

our daughter's school is having a blood drive today and me and mrs. babycheezits thought about signing up.

it's been on my bucket list i just haven't done it yet.. .

just curious if many members of jwn have donated?.

I donate regularly, my next is due soon, I have thought about the situation that TD mentions, if a JW saw me, or better still two of the buggers, and subsequently they tried to DF me, the scriptural grounds for the DFing would be so so difficult for anyone to explain.

How can it be wrong to donate if it is not wrong to accept that blood once it is fractionated ?

Reasoning from the scriptures, is there a plan to release a new version?

i know that the section on last days is no where close to correct anymore with the 'overlapping generation' change, i am sure there are other discrepancies as well with the book.

shouldn't there be a new version of this coming out (or even better for those of us who are trying to find changes a 'change list' like what was done with the 'grand climax' book)?.

No no no it hasn't Amelia ! The Old Farts who make up the GB are the last bit of the overlap, they are fast approaching the Biblical three score years and ten, so the end must be soooooo close !

On JWN .. are you a teacher or student ?

likely most poeple feel that they at times can and should be both , that is a teacher or a student.

i know i have learned and gained much insight into many things here.. but most often.

fail to make acknowledgement... not sure why i guess i hate for a person to feel i am flattering them or kissing up.

I hope I will be forever the student in life, and on here, I just love learning new things. I do not mind giving praise, perhaps I do not do it often enough.

Because of a good measure of experience in life, both as a JW and as one who has left, I may be able to impart the odd bit of knowledge or expertise, but I do not look upon myself as a teacher.

Since leaving the WT I have learned not just facts, but how to learn, how to evaluate knowledge, how to reason using Critical Thinking, how to spot a false argument and yet, how ignorant I still am in many areas.

Most of this I learned from here, the University of JWN, Professor Leolaia being a favourite tutor. Jwners have given me pointers where to go to learn more, most helpful !

It amazes me that they still use this as the basis for talks in the TMS or at least they did until recently, I have been out a while.

I think it would be fun to go on the platform and present say, the generation thing, as it is in the book, with no reference to any updates, after all , you are not supposed to go off script.

You would have to endure some smart ass counsel about "keeping up with god's chariot" or some such nonsense, but it would be great to show the silliness of their lack of an update, as presumably this is what is used to present doctrine in the DtoD work.

Perhaps they will provide little sticky in bits, like they did with the Revelation is a Joke book, or whatever the title is. Eventually the whole "Reasoning" book would consist of pasted in bits, the speed with which their "truth" changes.

Just an aside, I think the title of the book is very revealing, it is not "Reasoning with the Scriptures" but "on" , showing that it is simply their interpretation.

SBF, perhaps they are attracted firstly by the name, as they are interested in their own recovery, they may not realise how helpful this site is in that area, plus you get all the other wide ranging debate.

JWN is THE BEST !

The idea of the guide to recovery is a good one, but may need a bit of honing. I know that for me I did not realise how damaged I was until I read similar stuff, and certainly did not know what to do about the damage. So any positive help offered to those leaving has to be applauded.
