They believe he set up his kingdom invisibly in heaven in 1914 and at the same time threw Satan the Devil out of heaven to the earth together with his wicked angels. This is supposed to explain all the terrible troubles since 1914. They are still waiting for him to come and bring about Armageddon. Before this happens all 'false' religions are to be destroyed by the United Nations. Then Jesus will come with his angels and destroy the kings of the earth along with the rest of humanity ...except JWs of course (called the Great Crowd) who will survive to become the nucleus of the 'New System' and inherit a paradsie earth. They will be ruled over by 144,000 as kings/priests together with Jesus for 1,000 years. During this time there will be a resurrection of everyone else who has ever died.

Armageddon and the Second Coming
by Cold Steel incan anyone explain the jehovah's witness eschatology surrounding armageddon and the second coming of christ?
i realize the church teaches that jesus came "invisibly" in 1914 and is ruling from heaven, but if he is ruling, why does evil still exist?
if satan and his angels were cast out of heaven to earth, how was man tempted before 1914?

It makes feel sick to read that list as I recognise myself in a lot of those (except no.3... which has at least made it easier to mentally escape). The only one I feel glad about is no.4.. it comes in very useful for missing meetings.
After a lifetime and now in middle age it's going to take a lot to drag myself out of that mentality. I would welcome any tips on how to do it!!

It didn't worry me. The only thing that concerned me was the amount of people on here and that I would never be able to remember anyone. I'd read CoC. I've always been quite an independent thinker and hate being told what to do. So I actually felt quite smug that I was doing something that could get me DF'ed if anyone found out. I also know that no one is going to find out unless I drop a huge clanger. So the feeling of smug satisfaction continues.

Question Directed at Religious People
by Mr. Falcon ini'm currently dealing with some very religious jw family members and this has led to several "debates" (i hate to use the term debate, since it's more of a one-sided argument where they do nothing but reference watchtower publications, but whatever).. gotta be careful in what i'm about to ask, since there's been quite a bit of turmoil on here whenever there is a religion vs. science sort of discussion.
i've searched on past threads as this topic has come up but haven't received any real answers one way or another.
just lots of fighting.

There was too many 'could be', 'maybe' 'possibly' 'I think' and 'what ifs' in it. All the way through. Nothing really concrete.

You could tell her that it's nothing personal, that you like her and don't want to hurt her feelings. However you don't want to waste her time, that you don't actually read the magazines anymore and have no interest in them. That you don't agree with the doctrines or organisational policies which is why you stopped going years ago and you have no desire to return.
btw... out of interest, what is the problem of a 17 year old talking to a 21 year old?

Greetings from a new member
by EdenOne ingreetings everyone.. just wanted to say hello to everyone, being a new member from western europe.. some may know me from another forum (eden, from e-jehovas-witnesses.com), but most don't, so this is my little intro.. male, in my early 40's.
still an active member in good standing of a jehovah's witnesses congregation in my country, and honestly not planning to change that status, despite my unorthodox beliefs.
sometime i will elaborate the reason why i don't feel i must leave.

Well Eden, all I can say is you are going to have to tread very carefully if you want to stay one! Make sure you keep your anonimity and don't let anyone find out about your website because even a slight deviation is counted as 'apostacy' and you'll be kicked right out the door! Just be as cautious as you can!

The thing is, once you start finding that they are wrong on 'some' things it sets the ball rolling. You begin to realise that there are more and more and more things wrong. Then the more questions you ask the more questions you'll find. In the end you realise there's very little left to agree with. Especially when you drop the NWT and start reading other translations.
