When I've been out knocking on doors we've been told not to accept a 'no' from someone.. and try to get over their objection. I HATE this! If someone says no they mean NO! If someone comes to my door selling something and I say I don't want it then I expect them to respect that. The same curteousy should go to people JWs call on. They are UNINVITED. To work with someone in the 'FS' who doesn't repect others rights to say no makes me cringe! A smile and a 'sorry to disturb you', is much more effective than try to force your religion on someone who doesn't want it.

Shy JW at the door ... the pain of it
by MrMonroe insomeone tweeted today: "a jehovah's witness who is shy to people at the door.
those few words paint such a sad picture.
how many jws with little self-esteem and self-confidence, particularly born-ins who have never known anything different, are sent out into neighbourhoods to knock on the doors of strangers and speak to them, knowing the householder resents them being there?

Gave 5 JW's Something to Think About at a Starbucks Today
by flipper ini was having coffee at a starbucks located in a supermarket chain in one of the towns i work in my business .
while sitting there doing paperwork , what looked like 3 elders on their field service break sat at a table no more than 4 feet from me .
after eavesdropping it was obvious they were elders as they were talking about the c.o.

Flipper.. I love the way you did it in a calm reasonable manner. I think are more likely to react postively to that then feeling as if they are under attack. I've always felt shunning was wrong (and I'm an middle-aged born-in) and could never hold with it. I think it's cruel and wrong. I really think a lot of JWs feel the same and wish it were different (especially when it involves their own family). An approach like yours could have a good effect on making them think.

Torture! YES!! It's not so much shyness but a feeling of being unwelcome. I like people to like me (like most people do) and I like to keep the peace. Knocking on someone's door uninvited with something they don't want has the effect of feeling they hate you. Always having a feeling of sickness in the pit of my stomach and a feeling of panic not knowing who's going to answer the door. I always feel so happy when someone is friendly I breathe a sigh of relief!
I do still go out knocking on doors but as little as possible to keep up appearances so no one asks questions. Fading isn't an option for me (although I wish it were) otherwise I'd never knock on another door again!

Intel.. you've had some great advice given you and I can't add too much. But your GF sounds like a wonderful girl. She's willing to let you go for your happiness. Will you be happy without her? If you let your ex-wife go will she take your child away from you again? If you got back with your ex-wife will you be able to forget your GF? And visa versa. Maybe you should separate from both of them for a while and give yourself some 'alone' time to consider all these questions that are going around and around your head.
I do think you can be in love with more than one person but they are different types of love. The love you have for your ex-wife involves many years together, familiarity and intimate knowledge whereas the love you have for your GF is fresh and new and wonderful.
I really hope you can see your way through this dilemma!!

I'm in a pretty dark place...
by OneDayillBeFree ini know many of you have felt this way but it still hurts.. i was doing fine, great actually but then all of the sudden a huge wave of pain hit my body out of the blue.

ODIBF... I have days like that too sometimes. ((((hugs)))). But you're not alone. Many of us feel as you do, living a lie but not wanting to lose our family and friends. You feel trapped.
I still believe in God and I have pleasure reading his word and prayer for helping me feel closer to him and guiding me through this mess. I've also drawn closer to Jesus, something I could never do in the WT. Now my mind is free from the that I can go to Jesus as my mediator instead of a manmade organisation.
To Granny Mouthy.. I love your posts!

Does anybody still believe in God and the Bible?
by tornapart ini just want to know out of interest how many here still believe in god and christ and that the bible is god's word.
my faith in the wts is gone but i still love god and his son.
i've noticed that many here have lost their faith in god as well as the wts.

Thanks wobble.. I will continue to explore.
Atrapado I agree with what you say. I think the reason why there is so much supposed 'unity' amongst JWs is that they never question what they are told. Just accept. They want to be like everyone else and believe the same things. This just turns people into robots. I think this is why Jesus never told his disciples or interested ones the answers to everything. He gave them questions. Those questions led to more questions. He was encouraging people to develop their own thinking ability and come to their own conclusions. He doesn't want robots to be his followers. He encouraged people to have faith but faith based on their own thinking and not controlled thinking.

Thanks JDW. I'm happy to explore any ideas. Ultimately I want to use my 'free mind' and no longer be told what I can and can't look at, read and watch. From now on the internet and books and free discussion are all open to me! It will be a voyage of discovery. Thanks to everyone for posting, I never expected it to catch people's attention as it has. Everyone has so many interesting ideas, whether thay are atheist, agnostic, believers in God, nature (I have a wonderful pagan friend who I love to bits! LOL) or whatever... it all makes the world a fascinating place to live!
