Men have nipples because women need them for nursing (mammals)and evolution economizes genetic material. In other words the same genes are used to produce both men and women it is the difference of a protein/hormone production that differentiates the physiques.

Why Was Adam Blocked From Tree of Life?
by AGuest inbecause... the leaves of such tree... were for curing.
curing what?
had adam reached the tree and ate... he would have been cured of his sins and once again become sinless.

The bit about his being buried in the yard of a masonic temple is false. The cemetery is across the road from the new temple building which was built many years after his death. His grave is marked with a pyramid as well as a normal headstone. In his own words as the link provided showed he was not a Mason and encouraged all to avoid association. But who cares?

Jews practiced human sacrifice
by peacefulpete inlev.27:28,29 says ..."but any devoted thing which a man devotes to jehovah from all which belongs to him, of man or of animal, or of the field of his possession, it shall not be sold nor redeemed.
everyone devoted to destruction(sacrificed) is most holy no devoted thing which is dedicated by man shall be ransomed; it shall surely be put to death.
this explains why jeptha, when promising to offer as burnt offering the first person to great him upon his successful return from war, had to kill his daughter dispite his feelings for her.

I meant Ezra not Nehemiah sorry. The book I was thinking of actually deals more with later Judaiusm, sorry again. The book entitled " The Bible Unearthed" is great and represents mainstream scholarship about Bible history in light of modern archaeology. I think I remember it touches on this topic.

A paragraph from a book I have read on social debate and psychology. "Some debates are so entwined with people's moral identity that one might dispair that they can ever be resolved by reason and evidence. Social psychologists have found that with divisive moral issues, especially those on which liberals and conservatives disagree, all combatants are intuitively certain they are correct and that their opponents have ugly ulterior motives. They argue out of respect for social convention that one should always provide reasons for one's opinions, but when an arguement is refuted, they don't change their minds but work harder to find a replacement arguement. Moral debate, far from resolving hostilities, can escalate them, because when people on the other side don't immediately capitulate, it only "proves" they are impervious to reason."
My original comment answered all the questions Undisfellowshipped asked.

Bebu...Maybe just so I do not misunderstand your last post, I'll reiterate that the topic there was the particular wording inthe Ez. verse. The translation that suggests that God was himself declaring his laws bad is deemed unlikely and without precedent because the unseemlyness of the omnipotent god declaring himself evil and murderous. The alternate translation has the people declaring that Ezekiel was changing the laws of yhwh and suggesting that the former methods of worship were bad laws. There are other sites that explore the possibilty that Jeremiah, Nehemiah and Ezekiel were historical figures that transformed the primitive jewish cult into a more sophisticated religion based largely upon the Zoroastrian faith. It is an attrative theory for many reasons. The pattern of redaction done at this time is consistant with this adjusting theology requirements. It is also noted that Zoroastrian parallels are far tomany to be coincidence. The creation story, the detailed sacrifice code, the legends of Patriarcs, the introduction of the festival of booths all have uncanny Persian precedents. An interesting note is that Neemah was a high ranking spiritualist in Artexerxes court and was sent by him " to see if the faith in God existed in Judah" the NWT has added the word "your" before god in the sentence to conceal that he wwas actually speaking about Ahura Mazda or Marduke. The glowing speeches about the pagan king having been anointed by God to lead the people of judah to righteousness make much more sense when understood that the king was speaking about HIS god not YHWH. The Bible at this time was vaccumed of direct references to human sacrifice by Jews. It therefore must be drawn from difficult to ignore indirect references to such a practise. Examples have here been offered. The clear directive from YHWH to offer up his son as a sacrifice with Abraham's casual compliance is direct evience that at the time of this early legend the practise was familiar. The ending was left unchaned, yet the middle part edited to allow Issac to survive in the story to become a patriarc himself. The archeological evidence about anything early (patriarcal period) "Israelite" is scant. But what we do have suggests a much different cult than the OT presently reveals. Actually I should not say this as the OT does reveal that the Jews worshipped just as their neighbors with terriphim, statuary bulls and phallic images and human sacrifice, it is however rewritten as practices engaged in but condenmed by YHWH rather than proscribed by him(ie priests). The evidence from other neighboring tribes from this region is sufficient to show that human sacrifice was comonplace and no culture is an island dispite claims of uniqueness. About the same time as the other peoples left off the practice the Jews also did. It is likely that the priesthood of the other cults likewise altered their histories to conceal the change. (I have read this to be suspected about Baal worship, that underwent this same adjustment) I know it is a big pill. I recommend a simple word search at a search engine. Something like"human sacrifice jews" or the like. It will bear results. Mind you that there will also be religious objections to this conclusion. I know there was just released a new book that dealt with this specifically. I will attempt to find more on it.

undisfellowshipped...Again this discussion illustrates that Bible writers had differing views about the value of the unborn. None of these verses can be said to prohibit abortion.
At best the one in Ex. can be made to appear to say this by overlaying it with modern sentiment about what constitutes "furthur injury". Some interpret it to be saying no injury to the woman beyond the ending of her pregnancy, while others interpret it to mean the infant was born premature but unharmed. The latter seems to ignore that the wording does not say "gave birth" but came out, expelled or left a lower place(ie womb). It does not even use the word for "came out" used at Genesis 25:25 that described a birth. The idea that the husband could fine the attacker for losses if the baby and mother were unharmed is without premise. This fining for damages only makes sense if the fetus was expelled/aborted but the mother survived.
Rather than make the verse say what modern readers want to hear the version that was originally posted is most consistant with the wording and context of Jewish law.
The Jeremiah story (1:4) is likewise (same as Ps 139) an expression of predestination. No free will is possible if a person's destiny is determned before his birth (or before developement in the womb for that matter).
This consistant with the Esau and Jacob legend where in the author has God declaring blessing and favor on one over the other before birth.
(Gen25:23)
These passages were written for reasons unrelated to the abortion question and were said the way they were to emhasize the greatness of the God they worshipped (ability to see future) not how greatly he valued fetuses. -

That's why they were sad-u-see
by peacefulpete ineveryone knows that the saducees differed from the pharisees over the teaching of an afterlife(resurrection).
they also didnot accept the idea of angels, demons, and miraculous healings among other things.
the question is why?

"Now it was from this very creed of Zoroaster that the Jews derived all the angelology of their religion...the belief in a future state; of rewards and punishments, ...the soul's immortality, and the Last Judgment - all of them essential parts of the Zoroastrian scheme." From The Gnostics and Their Remains (London 1887) by King and Moore quoted at 607a in Peake's Bible Commentary 1982
FROM ENCYCLOPEDIA AMERICANA : "First, the figure of Satan, originally a servant of God, appointed by Him as His prosecutor, came more and more to resemble Ahriman, the enemy of God. Secondly, the figure of the Messiah, originally a future King of Israel who would save his people from oppression, evolved, in Deutero-Isaiah for instance, into a universal Savior very similar to the Iranian Saoshyant. Other points of comparison between Iran and Israel include the doctrine of the millennia; the Last Judgment; the heavenly book in which human actions are inscribed; the Resurrection; the final transformation of the earth; paradise on earth or in heaven; and hell." by J. Duchesne-Guillemin, University of Liege, Belgium -

The words were put in the hero's mouth at the moment of death to appear to fullfill "prophecy" by Mark( and copied by Matt) as he saw the Savior as a victom. John (I use the names traditionally attatched to the works) has Jesus say" It is finished" then die. His hero died deliberately and defiantly, a later theological developement.

I myself feel that rights result from sentience. Defining that moment in the developement of the fetus will probably be a difficult task but it most certainly is not at conception. Genetic "Potential" is not a valid premise for granting human rights for cells as is often argued by prolife folks. But aside from these opinions I wanted to comment on Ps 139:16. The phrase often translated to suggest the Psamist "parts" were not yet formed is actually a mistranslation or at best a alternative to the Psamists "days" not having yet happened but known to the creator. ( I have checked 4 translations and they word this correctly) In other words the writer like many Jews believed in fate. Also this could then be used to support your arguement that the Psalmists life had not yet begun when he was in the womb. I however feel the subject is far too important to let our judgement be clouded by an antique book.

The question is does the Bible retain this early tradition at Gen 5:2? There it says, Male and Female he created them, and blessed them, and named THEM ADAM. Jewish Targum and Talmud teach that Adam was created man and woman at the same time, having two faces turned in two opposite directions, and that the Creator separated the feminine half from him, in order to make her a distinct person. Flesh of my flesh. Romantic no?
