Are You Ready for The Memorial?

it's this week, folks.

i thought i might give you a new thread to vent on.

many on our forum still go to the memorial or have to answer to family about not going.

I understand how your wife feels. I was a hardcase with my husband for not keeping the kids quiet too. In fact I used to berate him for not taking control like I felt he should.

With the benefit of hindsight I can now understand how much is put on the believing wife to have her children and family well regarded and classed as good associates. The pressure is huge. In turn us girls transfer the pressure onto our husbands because they are supposed to be taking the lead etc.

So the kids are ratty and bored due to unrealistic expectations from the parents. The husband is ratty due to unrealistic expectations from the wife, and the wife is ratty due to unrealistic expectations from the congregation.

Problem is, the wife can't blame the congregation because its Jehovah's mouthpiece, so the husband gets it in the neck instead - sorry guys!

Memorial is best avoided. Better still, keep the kids home with you too if you can.

on the fence - an introduction

i was brought up around the truth.

my dad was disfellowshiped when i was young, around 6-7. he was a elder and very devoted even going to jail when he was younger for the truth.

he had a stroke and started preaching things that the society was not teaching and he was disfellowshiped.

Have you read Crisis of Conscience and In search of Christian Freedom by Ray Franz?

They are 2 excellent books which will answer many of your questions, not all, but many.

Oh, and a bit of advice. Try to stop using phrases like "the truth". These are words indoctrinated into you so that you readily accept everything coming from the Society as "Truth" without question.

You know this isnt so.

New Rumor: Downsizing Circuits/Assemblies

the borg is going to phase out big district assemblies - so they can fit 'em in assembly halls.. they will reduce the size of circuits.

they will synchronize c.o.

It seems like they are going to streamline and homogonize themselves right out of existence if they are not careful.

i enlarged and put in bold the third paragraph of the wt's letter where the elder, an ex-bethelite, made some fascinating errors while reading the letter by using the words, "borg" and "perp.

" does this mean what i think it means?

He said BORG??? wow!

That tells me this elder is either a viewer/member on "apostate" websites where the word "borg" for the organisation is used regularly, or he's a trekkie who's worked out the connection himself.

I'm more inclined to think its the first one.

Hey, how many elders are really closet apostates?? I bet there's quite a few.

My hubby and I have been married for 30 years this year. Throughout our years as JW's so much pressure was put on both of us to take the lead/ study with kids/set the example/reach out etc. Not to mention the constant routine of meetings field service, pre study etc that our JW marriage was put under extreme pressure to the point of separating. Neither of us were truly happy for years but managed to maintain a front.

Now since we have both left, I LOVE my husband for who he truly is and not based on how he is perceived by the rest of the congregation. Its as if we are newlyweds again, discovering ourselves, our likes and dislikes. I had no idea after all these years that my hubby wanted to learn to jive but couldn't say so because it was "worldly" and we didn't have the time!

So we're learning to jive, and LOVIN IT!!

My rambling story

i am 18...my mother has been studying the bible with jw's for over 20 years now.

she has never been baptised for various reasons.she wasn't married at the time to my abusive and drunkard father...when she started studying she got married to him--then she left him 4 years after.since then almost everywhere we moved mommy was approached by the jw's and she regularly had discussions with them .. when we bought our current home and the jw's appproached us 3 years ago,mommy was working day and night and so she told them to study with me.the next sunday we started going to meetings...all the meetings...i became a publisher in 4 months and was baptised 8 months after...i was told by everyone that i was progressing well...because of my mom's hectic work schedule ( single mother 4) we never had a close relationship so i immediately became really close to my study conductor...i was taught that religion and the people at the kh had to take precedence over any family members especially those who were a part of the world..from then on i never went to any family gatherings,concerts and i began to 'look down' on my mother.after all her heart condition wasn't right--why wasn't she baptised?

our relationship plunged---i even told her that i wanted to leave this house...she knew that i felt closer to my study conductor and so she tried to start back her study and get baptised....again she was dating someone and contemplating marriage with him but my study conductor kept on drilling into her head 'marry only in the lord'.
