well, as you all know, my wife (unstuck) and i are not df or da.. we just stopped attending several years back after my "apostate" online activity was found by a nosey employee of ours while she was working in our office (long story if anyone wants to know - it would have to be another thread).
we never met with any elders - no congregation judicial activity occurred (as we would never consent to do so anyway).
so our policy has been to be the same kind, loving, normal people we have always been.
He responded with "Mate, I know what you're trying to do by acting all nice to everyone"
This is actually cognitive dissonance at work.
The borg says "apostates are unhappy, deceitful, hateful and angry"
You're nice to him, which blows his preconception of you - therefore you must be PRETENDING to be nice, therefore you really are unhappy, deceitful, hateful and angry.
The borg wins.
it’s quite affirming to see the horrific material that they’re serving up at the convention this year.
aside from blatant homophobia, the scenes at the end of the convention that are discussed on another thread stoop to new levels of fear mongering.
it seems to occur to nobody inside the organisation that this kind of material could trigger fear, deprsssion, anxiety, stress.
My mother is one of those people who'd strap a bomb to herself and walk into an arena if a GB member told her to. Videos like these thought up by cult leaders always result badly.

bible teach, chap.
16 p. 154 pars.
I always used the example of the student in class in the Bible Teach book.
The teacher proposes something as fact, an unruly student raises his hand and claims he knows better. The wise teacher allows the student to get up and show the class - so that he can be proven wrong in front of everybody. If he expelled the student the class might thing the teacher had something to hide.
Isnt this exactly the same as disfellowshipping and the banning of talking to apostates?

Ok, now that I'm back home, I've managed to watch the video.
HAVE THEY ABSOLUTELY LOST THEIR MINDS?!!!
If this doesn't cause more people to take up then i'll be very surprised.

My wife's father is NOT going to be okay with this. The man skipped all the parts in the Bible that were too violent, including Jesus' death. He would fast forward through drama tapes that they'd listen too. Of course, it's not like he's going to leave, but it will get to him.
What a shame for him. Being a follower of a book so violent DeSade would have blushed.
I read all about the scourging and the crowning with thorns and I
could viddy myself helping in and even taking charge of the tolchocking
and the nailing in, being dressed in the height of Roman fashion. I
didn't so much like the latter part of the book, which is more like all
preachy talking than fighting and the old in-out. I liked the parts
where these old yahoodies tolchock each other and then drink their
Hebrew vino, and getting onto the bed with their wives' handmaidens.
That kept me going. - Alex Droog from A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess.
i'm gonna read the new light bible front to back.
(see how far i make it).
besides wanting to read more.
I would but i used my NWT bible for rolling papers. It was the only useful thing for it apart from using it to pick up the cat shit in the littler tray.
spoke to my younger brother dan yesterday (he da'd about 6 months ago).
he was telling me that he got a visit from our older brother the day before.
our older brother was raised a jw but never committed, lives a full-on "worldly" life - smokes, binge drinks, hangs out with non-jws, but he's been studying for about 6 years would you believe?.
Spoke to my younger brother Dan yesterday (he DA'd about 6 months ago). He was telling me that he got a visit from our older brother the day before. So anyway, Dan is selling his freeweights, and older brother say's he'll buy them off him. Great. Wonderful. What could possibly go wrong?
A week later, older brother turns up and says he's not going to buy them after all because, after speaking an elder, it could bring demons into his home.
Demons. Really?
Yes, because you see, Dan studies Taoism and meditates. (It's actually benefited his life immensely. He's lost weight and overcome a lot of stress and anxiety issues). HOWEVER - as everyone knows, Taoism is surely from the devil and influenced by the demons. The demons are living in my brothers freeweights and if my older brother brought them home the demons would then be in his house.
Where do I even begin with this one?
i remember when that came out, my mother didn't catch it in the original article in the wt.
it was in one of the review "do you remember" thingies that she caught it.
she asked me if it means what she thought it meant.
By the time this came out in print i was in the mindset of "this religion is the clostest thing to the truth, take it with a pinch of salt and dont say anything".
It's like the emperors new clothes, you see that it doesn't make sense but everyone else seems to accept it. Therefore they must be seeing something i missed because im not clever enough.
When in reality, everyone is thinking the above.

The Isle of Wight, off the south coast, has seven thriving congregations.
That's a 71% drop, what happened? Who's waters are supposed to be drying up again?
