Hey larc, it's Pete2, remember me? One of your favorite people!

I don't understand your objection to TJ's analogy.

A house is a rigid structure that has be disassembled. A person as an organism, can modify itself slowly over time.

Why can't one make a metaphor of a house being a living organism? A house seems to grow from the earth. Some believe a house contains the energies and memories of those who have lived in it. Isn't it creative to draw parallels -- a childhood; a house -- between a good foundation and a bad one?

Here's a few examples of what I mean.

The poet May Swenson wrote:

Body my house
my horse my hound
what will I do
when you are fallen

Or how about George Fox, founder of the Society of Friends (Quakers):
"The Lord showed me ... his people were his temple, and he dwelt in them.

And as the Italians say: "sistemare i propri affari" (set your house -- or life -- in order). Which probably comes from 2nd Kings 20:1 -- "Set thine house in order."

And ol' Abe Lincoln said about the Civil War, "A house divided cannot stand." Once again referring to scripture.

And since we're on the subject of the Bible, don't forget Pro. 9:1 -- "Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars."

And of course, there's Jesus' parable at Mt. 7: 24 -- 27, that those who listened to his sayings were likened to the man who built his house upon the rock mass; those that built them on sand were likened to fools.

(Too much Bible? I could have used a more extensive secular education.)

Anyway this is getting too long, gotta go. Gotta think outside the box/ bun / cheese sandwich, baby!

What a tragedy. After all she had "given up," you'd think YHWH would have would have had her puppy pull the plug on that space heater. But no!

The alleged first TV interracial kiss was between her and Ringo Starr in the late '60s. I recall seeing it happen on Laugh-In. Also, after Christy Love, she married a brother who was a L.A. busdriver.

Too bad she passed up her chance to kick it when she could.

Phallic Symbols

this morning as i was waiting for my ride into work, i was looking at the trees in my neighborhood.

i don't know what kind of trees they are, but some look like steeples.

i remembered how we were taught that church steeples were like phallic symbols pointing up into jehovah's nose.

Englishman, I'm a bit naive, but is Chesterfield where the word "screw" originated?

Regarding that Watchtower stuff about church steeples -- it's all a phallacy.

in a congregation some years ago, the elders had a major issue to deal with.

a transexxual woman became interested in studying the bible with the witnesses.

she was invited to go to the meetings.

She was told that if she had to use the bathroom, she could only go in the men's room because
ultimately, before God, she was still a man. She then left, and left for good.

Yeah! and I bet she was really pissed!

... and ya' know I heard -- while out in service -- that "transgender-ism" can be caught from a toilet seat!

A question of race

since i was a believer from the earliest of my memories, i spent my formative academic years not thinking or caring much about my future.

although 1975 (armageddon / the end of the world / jehovah's judgment) was still a year away, as a naive, dumbass teenager it was looming very large on my radar screen.

besides *that*, my best jw buddy got baptized in february of that year.

Hey TeeJay -- long time, no type!

My tuppence: Yes, it may very well be that the people you mention are racists (although they might not see themselves as such). Where there is power and fear -- there can be suspicion, hatred and cruelty.

But there can be wisdom in not making assumptions about minor unpleasantries. Their behavior speaks volumes about who they are -- some people are JERKS! If their behavior doesn't reach the level of you having a good chance at a lawsuit -- why spin your wheels. We live in an unfair world. Don't sweat the small stuff. Instead, love your family and love your friends in a big way!

And as a wise woman once told me: "It's not what they call you -- it's what you answer to."

god is evidenced by his creation, his word, and the relationship that believers have with him.

sadly, i notice that a lot of former jws either do not believe in god or believe in some false god of the nations.

Does God exist? Well, I was vacationing in the Pacific Northwest when one morning on a hike I stumbled upon God sitting on a camp chair having a sandwich. And who was sitting next to him? Big Foot! And that's not all. They were soon joined by Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. Hey, saw it with my own eyes!
