In a discussion of allowing Godly principles rather than laws rule your life, para. 15 states, "Following Bible principles, we will avoid trying to live (or demand others to live) by an extensive and rigid set of do's and don'ts that go beyond the teachings of the Bible."
I've read on this site many times that JW's are ruled by man-made rules and regulations relating to all sorts of stupid topics. Do we say then that any JW who tries to enforce a man-made rule, such as being clean shaven, is not living up to the teachings of the Bible?

What Am I thinking?????
by butalbee inwith all the recent hog wash going on in my life, i can't believe i am even entertaining this notion.
everybody on this board knows how i feel about this path, these beliefs, and here i am thinking, pondering wondering, maybe jehovahs witnesses do have something to offer me, maybe i need their 'close nit' love inside their congregations?
maybe i could see the truth, if i only opened my eyes to it and tried to accept it???

Just have a little tiny question to Reborn---- Could you tell me some of the man-made beliefs and teachings above and beyond the Bible? I have never come across this, only in misconceptions. Eg, many Jw's have beards, drink what they want, have every sort of heterosexual sex imaginable, where any color shirt, play chess, rely on dyalisis machines etc. etc.
I only want to know the truth, not personal ideas. -

tartarus
by petespal2002 incould someone give me a workable explanation of tartarus and how and what jesus preached to the imprisoned spirits there?
and while i'm in 1st peter, what is the meaning of 1 peter 4:6 where the message is to be declared to the dead?
i know what i think, but i'd love your opinions.

Hi,
I agree to a certain extent with Yeru, but again wonder how it ties in with the demons from Genesis. Also are you saying the account of the Rich Man and Lazarus is a literal teaching, as I thought it was allagorical, denoting changing positions of two groups of people with an unbreachable chasm in between. T'S Eliot deals with it well in 'The Love Song of Alfred J. Prufrock.'
Could we also consider if Hell exists but noone is actually in there? How many of you out there are true to your JW beliefs to a certain extent whilst not liking the organization? -

INCREDIBLE STUFF SAID @ BOOK STUDY!
by Mister Biggs inironically, we were discussing the watchman who stays awake night and day.. anyway, something was said that made me awaken and pay careful attention.
please, if anyone else who got this same information at their book study, please share it.. here goes:.
there was a picture of a man standing on the watchtower keeping on the look out.

His wifes answer was incredibly stupid. and totally not true. It is not better to have a false alarm and the watchman anaolgy does not imply that in the slightest. And btw people who sold up, etc. in 1975, had no sound basis to do this. Did the Wt ever say the end WOULD come then, without a scrap of uncertainty. Wasn't there always a reasonable doubt. Nostradamus predicts the end in 2023, lets all sell up and forego education now. If some want to, let them. Its there right to an opinion, and if they feel let down if it doesn't, who's fault is that.

Disturbing material in May 15, 2002 Watchtower
by spender inin the questions from readers section, the question was: "would it be advisable for a true christian to attend a funeral or a wedding in a church?".
to analyze this wonderful piece, i'm going to use their words, and translate them into real english.. "being in a group where everyone else is engaging in a false religious act, a christian may find it difficult to resist the pressure to join in.
how unwise to expose oneself to such pressure!".

There are an incredible amount of thickos like that around, and it is a shame the watchtower has to write in words of one syllable sometimes to get through to them! Act sensibly, with an ounce of brain, and this discussion would be redundant.

KILLER JWs NOT LIKELY BUT.............
by Liberty ini find it highly unlikely that the watchtower society would ever demand that their followers start armageddon by killing their/god's "enemies".
such a move would quickly spell the death of the jw movement as they are such a tiny minority of the general population and such crazed behaviour would be met with swift and complete irradication of the society by even the most tolerant governments.
the cowards who run the society would never risk such an assured loss of comfort, position, and money since any accomplishment gained from this desparate(irrational)action would be very short-lived.

ok show me what you mean by 'clear as mud'.
I mean clear cut in that the stance is anti-blood and that is it, however blood is being used. One doesn't use it in one situation and accept it in another. There are no grey areas on this issue and, as far as I know, never have been. Ad in the first centuary so today. Tertullian wrote "At the trials of christains you (Romans) offer them sausages filled with blood. You are convinced, of course, that the very thing with which you try to make them deviate from the right way is unlawful for them. How is it that, when you are confident that they will shudder at the blood of an animal, you believe they will pant eagerly after human blood."
As medical knowledge and use of blood/transplants advances, the GB are bound to update the understanding of the average witness who is probably unaware of such advances. However, when the interdict is NO BLOOD, then no blood it is and always has been.
Correct me. -

Where do you get this strange notion from? The Governing Body foist there personal beliefs on NO-ONE. There teachings on blood have been definate and clear-cut from the start, and as medical science increases they are willing to use any method possible as long as no components of whole blood are involved. The industry of organ transplants is a relatively new field of medicine, and JW's are more than willing to make use of it as long as no blood is involved. True, some members may feel that their conscience will not allow them to have a transplant, but that is a totally personal decision! The G B live by there own standards also and do not expect others to do something they would not. They do not have cushy lifestyles, unlike some Mormon leaders. It also depends a lot on your belief for a future life beyond this one. If you don't have it you won't understand. JW's are not brainwashed indoctrinated idiots, and fyi neither are Mormons. They have free will to do and act as they please, and if the choose to act in such a fashion that you find personally offensive, too bad. I don't suppose your lifestyle is above reproach either, but it's not a problem, or shouldn't be to open-minded people.
Just as a matter of interest I would love to know how many people using this site take drugs, cos some things I've seen seem to eminate from a drug fuelled imagination. I particularly liked the idea concerning the Borg, lets vote for Captain Janeway for president and then we all may be happy. -

Will the WBTS order JW's to Kill??
by Anne Marie indear post reader,.
about nine months ago, while surfing through different jw web sites, i came across a reference to an e-mail that was sent to the poster.. the e-mail basically said that with the way that things are going with the society, i.e., so many " waking up", and not being so easy to mislead and control., that there very likely will be a "big" announcement regarding the order to kill the "apostates" and the "wicked people".. the source said that it would go something like this:.
there would be talks, and some wordings in the magazines, alluding to an upcoming announcement.
