Thanks Phizzy. Nice perspective. I was assured how much they "loved" me. This by the elder whose home I've never been to and who couldn't remember my name even while I was attending. -

Just curious. Have any of you 'postates been accused of celebrating Christmas? How did/would you respond?
I was paid a visit by the Christmas Police even though I've been inactive for 8 years. In true WT form I used the reasoning that the truth only needs to be told to those that deserve to know it.

"Religion gives us the Why"
by Phizzy ini have heard this nonsense said by many believers, especially when science conflicts with their belief, they say:.
" well, science may tell us how we got here, religion tells us why we are here".
does religion tell us that ?

Upron Sinclair wrote, "In its true sense Religion is the most fundamental of the soul's impulses, the impassioned love of life, the feeling of its preciousness, the desire to foster and further it. In that sense every thinking man must be religious; in that sense Religion is a perpetually self-renewing force, the very nature of our being."
Or in other words, one doesn't need to be a part of a Religion to be religious or spiritual or moral. Love life and make it better for yourself, your loved ones and mankind in general.

HOW EXACTLY does god communicate with or direct the GB?
by stuckinarut2 inwe're all familiar with the organisations claims (and have seen the flow diagrams in books and mags) that the gb is "directed by god".
in turn, the local elders are "directed by god".
so, how exactly do they suppose this happens?

Upton Sinclair "The Profits of Religion."
by ctrwtf inwhat a great read.
what's interesting is that this was written in 1917. right about the time when the wt was being born.
he doesn't mention jw's directly but does mention the millerites.

Thanks OC Sorry I missed that on my perusal. I'm only a hundred or so pages in. He definitely doesn't hold back in his derision for Pastor Russell. -

Sinclair leaves no doubt about how he feels about organized religion. For anyone waking up he gives a unique perspective inasmuch as he observes that all religions are basically the same. "institutions having fixed dogmas and "revelations", creeds and rituals, with an administering caste claiming supernatural sanction." (read GB)
He continues, "It is the thesis of this book that "religion" in this sense is a source of income to parasites, and the natural ally of every form of oppression and exploitation."
Didn't someone once write "religion is a snare and a racket?"

Counting service time in a creative way
by nevaagain incouting time and, how to count time while doing as little service as possible is often a hot topic around witnesses.
i even overheard pioneers discussing about it.
they call it "creative time counting" (i translated that phrase from a different language so bear with me ;-).

I was always a fan of the Auto-Three rule.
If you show up for meeting for service at 9AM you get the Auto-Three

Jw still believe 4026 B.C.E as Adams creation...?
by thedepressedsoul ini was doing some "research" and came across jw articles that all talk about 4026 b.c.e as adams creation.
it even went as far as to state, "there are no actual records of ancient man, his writing, agriculture, and other pursuits, extending into the past before 4026 b.c.e., the date of adams creation.
since the scriptures outline mans history from the very creation of the first human pair, there can be no such thing as prehistoric man.

This was and is the main reason for my awakening. No Garden of Eden. No directly created homo sapiens pair 4000 years ago. No original sin. No "bruise you in the heel" kingdom covenant. No nothing.
They may as well build a belief system based on a flat earth.
