my parents just called and told me that the elders were going to forbid my sister to have her wedding in the hall, and refused an elder to give the talk because we were going to be in it.

there is no reason for this because we are not df'd or da'd.

i think my dad is going to type out his da letter tonite, he was so pissed.. to all active jw's who post here!!!.

This makes absolutely no sense. Neither DA'd/DF'd but still not allowed to participate in the wedding party? And, if the wedding is held in a neutral place, does this mean the r&f won't attend? This is horse crap for sure. I'm sure its extremely difficult for your parents & sister right now, and I hope everything works out.

Weddings are one of the happier events in the congregations, and to turn it into the situation it has become will probably make alot within this particular congregation go "huh"? There might be a silver lining, I'm just sorry its at the expense of your sister, soon to be brother in law and the rest of your families happiness.

i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.

i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

Yes Scumgrief - you are a breath of fresh air to this board. A JW who is willing to discuss his beliefs, and yet knows how to be civil. I've appreciated all your comments and look forward to seeing your posts/points of view.

Your description of your congregation seems almost sureal - Many here have never experienced what you are describing.

And tell Mrs. Scumgrief that we look forward to hearing "the truth" about you too as well as her viewpoints on things.

This is the main point of the JW's selling isn't it? Eternal life on paradise on earth - who wouldn't want it? Now, here's what you gotta do to get it.......

This is one of the main reasons I have not returned to the WTBTS - the stuff they're selling. They don't come to the door asking if anyone would like to get to know God. They don't come to the door asking if one has a relationship w/God, and if they do not, would they like direction towards that area. The first thing usually out of their mouths (conversation starters) is about crime, environmental issues, wars, world peace, etc. Then they tell you God has offered hope for the future, a hope without any of the above. But, in order to get "it", here's what you gotta do...........and if you don't, you'll be just like these (people falling into the pits of the earth). To say that isn't causing the members of the WTBTS to serve under false pretenses - they joined under false pretenses.

This preys upon the weak. It preys upon the depressed, the down trodden, and the ones in need.

If the JW's were truly interested in God, then they would be studying the bible, and not all the literature they sell. They would also be teaching others how to come to an "informed" opinion, not then imposing what they can/cannot study in order to make an informed opinion.

clearly, god did not want the truth to be obvious and, scripturally, it is apparent that it would not be.

jesus said that only "a few" would find the truth in these last days.

How can you use the example of Noah's day for this argument? Do you really believe that he preached to everyone throughout the entire earth, and everyone truly had a "choice" as to whether they would follow this man?

The whole account of Noah is not accurate. The great flood might have happened, but I'm pretty sure the bible's leaving alot of stuff out. So, we do not know for sure what happened in "those" days. Human beings were given the gift of intelligence & logic (in most cases). Even the WTBTS by printing literature uses "common sense" themes w/in to promote their philosophy on religion. The WTBTS uses other religions mistakes, opinions & philosophies on the bible regularly to "disprove" what they have to say. And the same thing happens in reverse towards the JW's. What they "say" is the "truth" is disputed over and over again by bible scholars, even the ones that helped get the JW's where they are today. So, you are not special, sorry to say. You are not "chosen", sorry to say. In fact, the simple truth is you follow a religion that has placed itself OVER anyone truly seeking God, and therefore will be punished right along with the rest of "false religion".

Your only correct point, IMHO, is that only God knows who his TRUE followers are. I happen to believe that he will find them out of all nations, tribes, tongues and faiths. Its what is in the heart that matters - right? Only God can see that alienone.

Oh, and another thing, the bible says that his TRUE followers would be known for their love - not for what religion they happened to follow - by their love for one another & for their constantly seeking him and his father. The WTBTS is FAR from being infamous for "their love". I have yet to see a more hypocritical, judgemental, arrogant & haughty group of people in my entire life.

If everyone is God's children, then what about the ones that "take the leap of faith" and join a religion that isn't the "true" one? By your arguments, you insinuate that God will only choose those that choose the WTBTS. That isn't exactly a God of mercy or love now is it?

Your arguments have absolutely no merit. If Jesus came visibly tommorrow and said the WTBTS was "it", why would it be "selfish" for many to either go back or go in the first place? Ones who truly want to serve God (of which I'm sure there are more than just the measly 6 million "so called" faithful) aren't selfish if by some miracle they are shown the "true" faith.

Your arguments are nonsense and not of any "truth" I would call my own. My God's alot nicer than yours.

Well hello again YoYoMama - just the example I was speaking of. A JW who comes in here with arrogant/haughty nasty little statements & proceeds to judge all of us in here.

Scumgrief - just look under members, then YoYoMama - then her posts. Gives you an idea of why some JW's are so "welcome", along with their viewpoints.

Hi scumgrief - good to see you here. As others have already mentioned, it seems the name calling & derisive comments are often made in response to like comments. The "so called" JW's that typically post here do not represent your religion very well, and tend to be haughty and arrogant in their comments (much like some from other faiths - but thats life). Just ignore the ugly, and try not to be easily offended.

Religion vs. Spirituality

has anyone else noticed that we get a lot of "who has the truth" and "what is the true religion" type messages?

but you never hear anyone ask something like "how do i develop authentic spirituality?

" granted, the word spiritual is abstract and vague, but there is the matter of the individual aspect of the word spirituality.

Excellent point Intro - and you are correct. One does not have to be spiritual to belong to any religion.

But, what is authentic spirituality? Yes - that concept is vague at best. One's level of spirituality can be a very personal thing. So, how does one develop authentic spirituality?

i intend to show with this article that the man of lawlessness is the anti-christ and that the activity of this composite person is what constitutes the abomination of desolation.

this shows the anti-christ and the man of lawlessness to be one and the same composite person.

we have seen that the anti-christ exalts himself {not appointed by god} then we learned that the man of lawlessness takes his seat in the temple of god.

I get the sense that you still believe the JW faith is the "one true" organization of God.

If this is the case, are you of the opinion that persons should continue to follow the WTBTS, and their local JW congregations, regardless of whether one "believes" what they are being taught there? If so, are you of the opinion that those who are DA'd/DF'd should try to be reinstated in order to receive Jehovah's blessing, even if they are in doubt with what they are learning?

Preparing for Armageddon!

what was the silliest thing you ever did to prepare for armageddon?.

way back when in my pioneering days, when we were out in service we would often talk about what to do when the great tribulation came along.

one of my pioneering buddies told me that he was so sure the gt was around the corner that he went and buried some food for the bros and sis to eat when we fled to the hills.

I can remember in spring of '75, so sure the end was near, and being a small child of 6, I dug a hole in the back yard and proceeded to move peanut butter, canned goods, etc. into this hole, along w/water of course (the thought of eating mice & spiders was a little extreme for me).

Of course I got caught, and for some reason my mother was torn between letting me keep my cache and making me fix the yard. The latter won out but I'll never forget her 1st reaction - she seemed to think it wasn't such a bad idea.
