  its an oldie i know.. i remember, years ago, my parents had some people around for dinner that we never talked to.

  after a while we remembered why we never talked to them.

  the conversation was so stilted that my father, in a long silence, resorted to this question.

  ThiChi - that would be ROUGH!

  Another born & bred here - but on a funny note, my conception was because my mother misread the scripture about doing whatever it took to bring another to God. So, my dad said he'd study as long as she slept with him, and being young in the truth - she did. Voila - she's pregnant with me, they get married & he stops studying right after the wedding! lol (btw - she was privately reproved).

  RF - w/the Cuban Missile Crisis going on - I'm sure there was a "surge" of JW's at that time - everyone scrambles to religion when the sh*t hits the fan aye? To bad they never came to their senses after the crisis was over. (sigh).

  ever get the feeling that some from these or perhaps other boards view themselves in some sort of leadership capacity?

  its as though they might not have gotten enough of being an elder or ministerial servant and still relish the idea of being in charge.

  one of the best ways to determine if an individual still has visions of grandeur is to disagree with them.

  last week i told some of you about the elder that went to court in behalf of my niece's rapest,died in a car accident.he himself was also acussed of raping his own child.i was very happy at the time but now i feel sick to my stomach.

  Ruby - anger towards those that hurt you/your own is natural - don't tear yourself up over it. What that man did is WRONG, and he deserved punishment. This was not punishment - it was a tragic accident. My heart goes out to all who knew this family, as their pain must be great.

  i know jw's are abusive psychologicaly to their members, however so are other churches.

  case in point, i knew a woman who would not marry b/c the pope said not to use birth control.

  she did not want children, and she could not find it within herself to go against the pope.

  And my hubby knows his history very well and can totatlly snow me with examples of the horrible things done in the name of religion. so he feels, by comparison, jw are not so bad (he cites catholics burning people at the stake)

  They haven't done this since LONG before the JW's came into existence. And even God's TRUE people did some horrendous things in God's eyes. The circle logic is the most difficult thing to get rid of - the invisible scars this logic leaves behind "seems" almost impossible to refute - until you are able to look at things logically.

  In the end, remember, GOD ALONE knows what's in your heart - this I truly believe. I have spent most of my adult years looking at all sorts of religion - never finding one that "fit". To me, each has taught me something. If that isn't "seeking" God - I don't know what is. That's all he really asked of us - to seek him & tell others of what we know, walking in the way of Jesus. The way we express ourselves, the way we are "there" for others, the way we speak of God's love. I still seek a religion that "fits", and if I ever find one, I'll join. Until then, I'll continue to seek God, that's what he asked me to do.

  I know how hard this is Wednesday - and your relationship with Hubby is hitting a very rocky place which makes the burden larger to bear. It will become easier, and many here have helped "pave" the way for some of us. Just keep posting, asking, searching & listening- that's about all we can do as humans.

  If family members and friends are coming from a distance and there is a desire to view the body, no doubt the remains will have to be embalmed to some degree.

  So, who wants to lay bets that eventually they'll figure out to what degree this can take place?

  Wednesday - I had this exact debate with my mother-in-law a couple weeks ago over dinner. She was raised the "strictest of strick" catholics (kneeling on rice or furnace vents for penence). She would have nightmares for years regarding "hell" and the pain if you weren't a good girl type thing.

  The difference? Well, Catholics & most religions are not usually ex-communicated or thrown out for simple human sins - only in cases generally where they are truly "apostate" to every sense of the word. Most also do not teach that you "can't ride the fence". Very few discourage "peeking" at other religions in regards to questioning your own beliefs. Even if a "Catholic" is ex-communicated - they are only religiously discarded - they are not shunned by their entire family which imposes huge mental and emotional trauma on many.

  So short end - all religions have problems. Few religions have the dire consequences imposed by a few "cultish" religious sects.

  i did everything to keep myself from getting hurt.

  i banged on doors with the best of the pioneers.

  ((Dede)) - if its any consolation - I've been out nearly 20 years now, and still have moments of doubt. I still have nightmares - although they are rare now. In reading on "cults" - this is one of the invisible scars that are left, and one that must be dealt with logically & rationally. For those of us who tend towards "emotional" reasoning, the logical is what lifts us up time & again - thank God for my husband, for without him I'd probably still be nuts!
